Recent pleasures:Night all 💤
Cough has almost gone although I still feel a bit rough in the mornings.
Went to a local observatory on Friday night. Cold clear night and best viewing conditions. We had to sit through an hour talk which was completely over our heads but then we walked up to the telescope domes. Couldn’t really see much through the telescope as I was too tall for the set up, but the sky was so clear that we could see Mars and Orion, among others with the naked eye. Then a fascinating talk and display in the planetarium 🌏 ⭐️.
Watched tennis 🎾 this morning whilst eating a bacon sandwich 😋. Sad to see Murray go, but what a fighter.
Washing almost dry on the line.
No energy this afternoon so we watched the last episode of Maternal and first 2 episodes of the Reunion.
Treat for dinner of ex OH’s own grown steak with mushrooms , onions and chips and a glass of 🍷9 -
Pleasures for today
DS2 home from hospital yesterday, it will be a tough few months but we will get through it.
ds1 put together the single bed & mattress bought from the big Swedish shop, hopefully he will sleep better than he did last night on the sofa. I did tell the hospital that I hadn’t yet set up at bed at home but they were insistent that he could leave Friday. My 2 older children coming down to help me.
A put together dinner - roast chicken, leftover new potatoes, 4 leftover carrots and frozen petit pois.
Now in bed with doggie at my feet.10 -
Topsyturphy pleased you're son is well enough to be home and wish him a speedy recovery.
For Friday
1. A dog walk and lovely blue skies. Very cold though.
2. A massage. Painful but can move so much better now.
3. Went food shopping and managed to keep within budget just and lots of fruit and veg.
4. Made French onion soup. It was tasty but an awful lot of onions to slice.
5. New bed sheets.
For yesterday.
1. Good sleep.
2. Got to rugby in record time by train. Caught second train with about 20 seconds to spare. Trip home was good too.
3. Good match which we won. They play so much better when it's dry and sunny.
Chat to person who had brought DH ticket as he couldn't go because of work. It was a 1 o'clock kick off.
4. Cooked tea which was tasty- a vegetable stew.
5 . More reading of my book.

Good to hear that your son is now home TopsyT, hope he heals well.
For yesterday,
A lie-in, always seems better in clean sheets.
Leisurely breakfast then over to see equine girlie, it was quite icy and the horses were in so gave her a leg stretch then a long groom, after years of keeping her mane quite short I’ve been growing it over the last few months and have to say that it really suits her, did tidy up her forelock though to keep it out of her
Took small dog for a walk, sunny but cold so brewed a pot of coffee when we got home and had it with a couple of squares of dark choc.
Listened to the footie, not really a pleasure as we lost again but good to hear my pal who does the commentary on local radio.
Watched a Digging for Britain then had a few games of Yahtzee.9 -
Good afternoon
Topsy T - so glad your son is home. As you say, a long road ahead but being home is an excellent start.
M hagster. - love the idea of being a daffodil waiting for spring. I always say I'm sure I am meant for much warmer climes! But at least today the frost has melted.
Nothing much to report. I don't go out much if it's frosty. Too worried about falling over! so no proper walks this week.
Instead I've been sorting cupboards interspersed with researching holidays. More of the latter to be honest!
Decided to learn to crochet properly. Can do all the stitches but the putting together is often very random and so some things are just messy. Making an Easter chick very slowly and carefully. I much prefer written instructions and so much is on YouTube now, but I think I'm getting there.
A sort of mixed noodle dish for tea. As usual, leftovers are involved, inc some chicken fajita. Followed by forest fruit crumble.
Have a good teatime everyone

1 I possibly failed at one of my New Year's resolutions of not buying books, but I wasn’t convinced by it anyway, it could be worse!
2 Made a full roast and all trimmings, feeling very full, and the kitchen is buried somewhere.
3 Meal planned for the week ahead.
4 I applied for a few roles, one of which looks intriguing.
5 Today so far has had part of a good book, a good movie, and a slice of cake from a Christmas hamper definite pleasures.

1. Cuddles over recent days with all my favourite living beings - DD, beloved, cats
2. DD is definitely going to be one of our witnesses at the wedding yay!
3. Beloved cooked dinner tonight, nom nom
4. Did a tiny bit more decluttering
5. Not really good news but good in a way, one of my friends has been signed off teaching with anxiety etc, I've been so worried about her for a long time, and she can now take the time she needs to re-evaluate her life and get the story she needs. So proud of her for going to the doctor9 -
Topsyturphy - you get the unglamorous stuff, all the bedding, the bathing, the grouching, so plan both time for your work & time for you off duty & all being well you’ll get some time to call yours. You can come here & snarl too!
Purple kitten - I buy books to lay them down for when I’m in the right mood, or want something to go with, or for celebration as well as simple escape. I have shelves of books like I had cases of wine!Felt the wish to see the vigil of the princes & of the grandchildren again. Fired up YouTube & watched & remembered & wept. Strangely feel much better (biochemically not at all strange but there you go).Riffling through the browser history I see a son has researched a “boba fett chalk bag” - well, if you’re into rock climbing & Star Wars, I sort of see it makes sense.Lovely cousin has sent me a splendidly supportive email - awed as she prepares to zigzag the length of the county for people who’ve died & their families.Seen the running order for dad’s memorial. We start stood & when everyone else gets to sit, I remain stood, reading psalm 23. Then I can sit & enjoy the college’s thorough grace & generosity, & ponder how you pronounce the Latin. Less than a week away, but it has the potential to be joyful. (Sorrowful also, but Glorious too. No idea about Luminous.)TodayBlueberries are apparently purple. I was “fooled by Big Farm” seemingly (Middleson so enjoyed that.)Much enjoying watching lunar new year celebrations on the TV.Youngest cheerfully used collectivism correctly & Middleson had to look it up!Huevos Rancheros, Dig-family-style, fed the three of us nobly. I prefer it to chilli but if I encourage one, the leftovers become the delicious other.Water went off. [Eventually back on again.] Bathroom floor impressively cold. My glorious lads have sorted hot water bottles & my toes are sending waves of happy back to the brain.Health strength love & courage to all as have need, along with just one friend or family member who is supportive, & HWBs!9 -
Hello again.
Some quick late evening pleasures:
1) Had a lovely pottering sort of day, bits and pieces done and for the first day in a while have got to the end of it still feeling reasonably ok apart from the lingering cough.
2) Thought while I was feeling a bit grotty (so won't notice the 'carb flu') I'd take the bull by the horns and get back on the low-carb Keto diet, got the latest recipe book for inspiration. Couple of days in and already sleeping better and 4lb off.
3) Not sure if I've done the right thing but spotted a lovely and very cheap dress whilst supermarket shopping. Tried it on and it looks fab (bit tight but see no 2 above), just exactly what I want and it goes with my very splendid never -been-worn-super-duper hat. The question is - dare I wear a supermarket frock to my niece/goddaughter's posh wedding? The hat cost nearly ten times the cost of the dress!
4) I was very worried now mum's bungalow is sold that there would be no reason for the four of us to see much of each other in the future. Really should have considered that the others probably felt the same and are taking steps to make sure we still do. So in February we are getting together, now that everything has been sorted, for a slap-up lunch to celebrate mum and dad's lives and we anticipate champagne will be quaffed and many toasts raised with some tears and some laughter. Then of course we have The Wedding in July and are staying over a couple of nights and making a long weekend of it. And just today, my second brother suggested a week away in Northumberland in September to celebrate their Ruby Wedding. He has found a fantastic converted mill for the eight of us (four of us and spouses), very luxurious with the all-important at our age en-suite bathrooms and the most gorgeous views. We know the area well and took mum and dad up there as one of their last holidays as dad wanted to visit The Alnwick Garden. Loads to do and fab restaurants nearby and we will take supplies of wine, nibbles, board games for late evening fun. Really looking forward to it and mum and dad would have been thrilled that we are all going together to an area that they loved so much.
5) Grandson came in to cook his first recipe from his student cook book. He did really well with minimal help and produced a delicious lemon chicken with basmati rice. Had a quick flip through the book and there are some lovely recipes to try with not a Pot Noodle in sight. By the time he gets to Uni he will be a dab hand at quite a few scrummy meals - and they can always fall back on the guaranteed to please oat cookies at which he is now pretty expert.
Right, now my heartbeat has returned to a normal level after tonight's Happy Valley (oh, my goodness!!) I'll love you and leave you and head for my bed.
Nite nite.7 -
TopsyT - so glad your son is out of hospital.
Pleasures for today (Sunday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Pottered around and got jobs done.
3) The van was welded yesterday so bigger son and his girlfriend drove it to the top of the hill and camped out overnight - minus 4 !
4) I went to M and S for a cup of tea and tried to read my magazine but couldn't concentrate today.
5) Phoned my school friend.
I seem to be having the long awaited mid life crisis. Have been in bed since 6pm. Haven't made any tea yet. Have also made some rather dubious decisions today. I'm usually rather regimented and sensible. I know I need to stop being lethargic, lose some weight and make some changes in life. I've been scared of pretty much everything for a very long time.9
