Pleasures for yesterday
1. HEATING!! yippeee... except in the whole 'one job leads to another' fandango, the ceiling of the utility has to come down to extend the bigger gas pipe, and the floor of the utility needs relaying cos untiled bits will now be exposed 🙄
2. The woodburner - going all day and DS and I cosied up in one room.
3. I even managed to do a little work
4. Out for a curry as - chaos still reigned somewhat. Local curry house does a Tuesday deal
5. to the pictures - Empire of Light. Didn't like the film but at least we didn't pay and came home to a warm house.
Have a great day all.I wanna be in the room where it happens10 -
Hello. Well I put my painty joggers on this morning ( though did neither paint nor jog😆) That’s as near to painting doorframes as I got !However downstairs is tidy. Bathrooms are clean. Even the oven is clean 😆…all to avoid painting!Floors hoovered and washed. Dog still in casting mode!A book was started and read half of it…all to avoid painting!Friend called for a quick chat…what you doing? Oh I’m going to paint. I didn’t!Window cleaners came so then had to clean inside glass!I’d been storing something for a local community group in my garage so that finally got collected today and has left a space!Lots of dog snuggles.Had steak pie ( RTC and from freezer) with honey roasted parsnips and potatoes and the very last of the pre Christmas veggies. Sprouts ( real food) cabbage and peas.I may paint tomorrow…we’ll see 😆
And just remade bed. Looking forward to that fresh bedding feel!9 -
I hope TT’s son is doing well.
Recent pleasures:
cough subsiding but Monday was still a bit off a write off.
Went to Lidl on Tuesday and managed to use my free bakery item and my £2 off coupons, haven’t got the timing right to do that the last few months.
Lunch at the trusty Beefeater today with friend’s friends. Nice group but the age difference (they’re all in their 70’s, I’m in my 60’s) did show in some of the things they say, plus they all got their pensions when they were 60 and I’m still waiting 🤣
Managed to find paperwork for shower which was fitted 1.5 yeas ago and has various problems and have got Triton coming out tomorrow, hopefully they will fix it under warranty but more importantly fix it! I had a sleepless night on Monday wondering what to do about it ☹️
Absolutely freezing here and the smart meter monitor is rising rapidly!
keep warm and have a good evening and good sleep 🤞💤10 -
@weenancyinAmerica - thank you for your reply. They will be there for 7-10 days but will be in NY for at least 2 as they are going to watch the tennis. My mum's sister lives in Maryland so they will go there or see her at some point. My cousins live in NY, Miami and Boston so unlikely they will see all of them.
Pleasures for today (Wednesday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Pootled around during the morning. My sister has a chest infection and pleurisy. All this is still coming from the long lasting bug that so many people had around Christmas time. She managed to get in to see the doctor today.
3) I went to Floody City in the afternoon (which is still flooded!) Another good haul from the charity shops: a CD for the car, a helpful book on learning Arabic, a cross stitch kit (I've never done anything like that before) and a brand new bird feeder which I could give someone as a present.
4) Cleaned the bathroom very carefully as one of the people from English lessons has said he will help me fit a new shower screen/replace a couple of tiles. Once clean, I sent him some photos. Almost as though the bathroom had been listening, smaller son had a shower and I noticed two tiny dribbles of water going through the ceiling and down the kitchen wall...
5) Bigger son and I had a walk round floody town before tea and noted the flood defences are being taken down, bit by bit.
6) Bigger son made the tea - homemade chips and burgers.

Frith - all the best with notorious assessment - glad juggling balls found you! Intrigued by the idea of a sentient bathroom...Suffolksue - "Good food and company and laughs" is Splendid.DundeeDoll - workshop leftover sarnies - it would be wasteful not to!weenancyinAmerica - back when Greyhound buses ran, I got halfway across America - trains and possibly a sleeping car sounds very civilized!villagelife - glad to see DH is expressing a becoming penitence with nice food.mhagster - glad your extra quiet wasn't plain snowed in - frozen sand sounds very strange! "all to avoid painting"!LaineyT - aw love that horses can be afraid of the dentist & & your beloved had you to rest on as she emerged from sedation.BoP - glad to hear yout tech team are replyng to howls of lamentation...VJsmum - heat & cosying up (absolutely right!)PaulieHerts - hoping your shower is soon to be sorted (& under warranty)!topsyturphy - just so hoping you, DS2, family, neighbours are all coping & mending & recovering!Aw. Youngest made me a hot water bottle & a cup of tea. Brought me the tea. Left the kitchen table lovely & cosy. His appalled expression is so cute!Sound of Middleson preparing to go to work - the clunk of the broom as he shovels more snow off his car…Yeay sartorial freedom - I am not expected in the office so I can wear my AntiSocial Trousers (the warm fleece ones, not the smart ones). Warmth!I am not a cat. Middleson phoned me to come in to scare the mouse behind his door into staying there while he sorted a bowl to trap it. Which seemed both necessary & yet inhospitable. [It then escaped to under his bed & Middleson recruited Youngest from his sleep to help.] {Youngest later asked if he had tottered out still clutching stuffed animal. I could neither confirm nor deny.} Mouse was captured & forcibly relocated.Oh my Scouts! After first aid (Heat stroke & hypothermia - we contemplated pegging a noisy scout out as a worked example & reluctantly concluded 'not allowed') it was games time. Each patrol got a trug & us leaders upended the store bins of balls. In the ensuing melee, we then upended each patrol's trug two minutes in. Ah the screams. You couldn't pay us.Health Strength Love & Courage to all as have need, along with heat & reliable hot water. Special appreciation to all good neighbours!8

@Frith - if they just go up and down the East Coast, they could easily do the train from NY to Boston to Maryland down to Miami and back to NY but it would quick visits. The big problem would be getting from the train stations to the cousins' homes and back. You could also do Greyhound bus for part of it, but train is much better. I've seen most of this country by train or bus as I had a partner who did seminars with me who refused to fly, driving with my family or by myself or one other person for business, and have flown almost everywhere except Alaska, Montana, Minnesota, and Maine. For awhile I was only home one week a month and then on the road for the rest of it. Not bad - but I like being at home better. Though I did say to people" Have suitcase, will go anywhere I am paid to go". Can travel with only a small wheeled backpack no matter how many days I am traveling, including a five-week trip to England one year. Would love to see more of Europe - trying to get my relatives interested in a Family History Trip now that I know where people are from. Had ancestors in every county in England, much of Ireland, Wales, and Scotland, as well as several countries in Europe.9

Lainey I once made DS2 watch mastermind on friends and he got all but one question right.
1. Bus to work - enjoyed reading my book.
2. Work better in morning when neither manager was there. Afternoon one appeared. Becomes frustrating when she can see clinics are running behind and she is meant to be doing clinical work but doesn't.
3. Had more conversations about books and reading. Seems a very common theme this week. With many different people.
4. Home to a cold house. Heating hadn't come in but sitting covered with a blanket.
5. Chicken bake for tea. Used a meat spice mix which was tasty.9 -
For yesterday,
A tiny sliver of a waning moon just visible in the early morning sky.
Cleaning bathrooms seems to be a bit of a theme as mine also done, as ever the pleasure is when it’s over.
Remembered a road closure and took the more direct route into Uni city for haircut, good chat with lovely hairdresser who is adamant that he will move his business out of the city should the proposed congestion charge go ahead.
Home and catch up with Capt S who had done an airport run for eldest.
Out for evening meal with 3 pals, good food and as always lots of laughs.9
