For last couple of days.
1. Relaxing.
2. Enjoying the sun here.
3. Watched a rugby match - USAP v Glasgow - was a bit surprised to hear a Glasgow supporter complaining how cold it was. The match started at 9pm so it wasn't warm but around 10 degrees.
4. Lovely food and wine here.
5. Wedding venue decided on after they went to look at it and discuss with them. A local vineyard which is starting up and expanding reception areas for weddings in next few months. All buildings are there and it's refurbishing the old farm buildings.9 -
Hello again. Lovely and sunny here today after the rain and wind.
Lainey - the 'Shardlake' novels (especially the early ones) are some of my favourite books ever.
Some pleasures, all I fear will be house sale related!
1) We exchanged on my mum's house on Thursday after a quite fraught day. Our buyers are selling to an American who lives in Idaho with a 7 hour time difference. He didn't realise that you have to give authority on the actual day of exchange so was happily fast asleep and couldn't be contacted. He finally responded late afternoon our time to urgent phone calls and then we had to wait for his solicitor to start work so finally exchanged about quarter to five. Phew!! Scheduled to complete on Tuesday.
2) A huge relief, if not an actual pleasure, is the short time it has taken to sell the house. Our buyer made his offer on the 19th December as long as we could exchange by the 9th January and complete on the 17th as his buyer is flying over to move in on the 18th. Amazingly, as the solicitors didn't work for a week and a half over Christmas and then had the time difference to contend with which gave them only ah hour's window to deal with his solicitors each day, we were only a couple of days late and fortunately not due to delays on our side. Helped by my retired lawyer brother driving right up the country and back on one day to personally deliver signed contracts rather than trusting them to Royal Mail, our solicitors pulled out all the stops and were just amazing.
3) I was very dubious at the time about using a - to me anyway - new Estate Agent who advertise the fact that they sell your house for free. In reality, it actually cost us £600 as we paid (through choice) for professional photographs and videos and a premium listing but the other quotes we got from traditional EAs were in the region of £5-6k (plus VAT). They were a total pleasure to deal with and we used their conveyancing service as well and that was absolutely excellent. Can't recommend them highly enough, an additional pleasure being a massive saving!
4) Went yesterday and cleared out and cleaned the house. My niece has just moved into a new house and has taken most of the furniture. Freecycled some and that was all collected yesterday too. The pleasure is that it's done but oh, my goodness, it was so emotional. My mum and dad had been there 35 years and had been so happy there, my dad said once that every day was like being on holiday. The garden is beautiful, they were both very keen gardeners and I can almost still see my mum working in her borders and my dad sat on his stool in the greenhouse pottering. We had wonderful family times there, such a happy home and now so empty and quiet and so hard to leave knowing that was 'the end'. Physically and emotionally exhausted today.
5) The new owners are a delightful couple, they have lived in the village before and are thrilled to be moving back. They have a great sense of style and their plans to update and develop the property are just fantastic. When the work is done - and they are wasting no time, their builder is already booked for February - it will be just amazing. A real pleasure that they will love it as much as we did and it will carry on being a happy family home for them to make their own memories in. And, in turn, we can now close the door on that chapter and start our next chapter too.
Now for a very easy afternoon, hope you enjoy yours.11 -

LaineyT - croissants are mum's treat breakfast.villagelife - vinyard & farm buildings sound great fun for a wedding. Wedding vintage tractor ratehr than limo?Highdays - ouch, letting go of a place you've been happy in is Hard, but glad new owners seem 'right'.BoP - clip nails to prolong socks.VJsmum - oops, tact not installed at pool....mhagster - sort boiler (yikes!), sort car, work - some days are merciless!Frith - could it be some buyers have gone into hibernation?Pleasures todayFamily tree climbing hit a gusher, just everyone's in Bermuda so while i have father, sons, nephews grandsons, and stacks of wives, I have no dates of birth or maiden names.Son sorted me iPlayer for another Father Brown as my phone data's out for another 48 hours.Managed to calculate back a date of birth for a living Canadian who works the horse circuit selling jodhs etc.Youngest sorted a simple lunch of fishfingers & 5 vegetables! Skipped the sprouts, ahem, but there is always tomorrow.Aunt very tolerant of sons' refusal to eat vegetarian lunch at memorial & has promised not to be offended if they eat meat. Now to get them to agree to Tesco sandwiches & all will be (relatively) less hassle.Health Strength Love & Courage to all as have need, and hoping the weather cooperates with all plans!11

Highdays, an emotional time.
1 An impromptu Aldi shop as things have run down and the impending cold snap means we will be out in it, so better prepared now, also picked up a couple of 75 off corned beef portions.
2 The birds are in overdrive so extra food put out.
3 I’m quite pleased with myself, using things up I created a very colourful stir-fry from scratch with everything we already had in, it was nice and hopefully reasonably good for us.
4 Opened up the toffee cake from dBs Christmas hamper very tasty, sliced up the rest for freezer portions.
5 Food planned again, feeling inspired for a change, or maybe I like winter stodge, saying that there are 2 days of fish based meals.

3. Beloved is away at a trade show but our boy cat came and gave me cuddles in bed last night like he does for his daddy-o
4. Got rid of some more stuff
5. Made a scrumptious dinner tonight, even if I say so myself! On a mission to use all the veggies in the fridge11 -
1) sorted the bird food and made fat balls - well fat cubes cos using two silicon ice cube trays - I have discovered much better using baking block rather than suet
2) several birds have arrived already for the bird cafe - peanuts, seed mix, nigella seeds and fat balls with dried fruit and oats
3) lovely walk with the boys - we found 3 plastic bottle, 3 plastic bags, a glass bottle and two lost dogs - the first 7 items in the bin, the last 2 returned to their relieved owner
4) No text from DrM re. the 4:30 so decided to go on my own - was lovely sitting in the front parlour with the fire on.
5) towards the end a gentleman came in, we started to chat, he ascertained I don't have a boyfriend and left his card - have I just been chatted up?!MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025
