Pleasures for today
1. DM looked slightly better today but still exhausted with a hacking cough.
2. Doggie walk - sorry mhags- managed to dodge the rain
3. My new hair dryer
4. ds1 for tea - Steak - was delicious
5. DS1 gave me their double bed from their spare room, never been used and I managed to fit it in my car to take home.10 -
1. I went food shopping. It was good to go out and do something normal. It was quiet and managed to get what I needed.
2. Had the boiler serviced and no problems. He even fixed a tiny leak on a radiator for me.
3. Cleaned the house- pleased I had enough energy for this. It made me feel better with it tidy.
4. Went to see friends. Had a lovely evening. Much laughter and good food.
5. A friend being grateful for a supermarket food delivery I arranged for her.8 -
For yesterday,
Few chores done, changed the bed and swept the floors.
We were supposed to be seeing eldest DSS but he had hit a pothole the night before and muellered his tyre & wheel, plenty of pictures taken so hopefully he might receive some compensation.
We did pop over to see DB & SIL after lunch, lovely to have a chat but self-conscious about my cough ☹️Home, small dog pleased to see us and vocal about the fact that her tea was 30 minutes late!
Tea was meatballs and gnocchi mozzarella bake.9 -
Lainey DS1 has also wrecked his tyre on a pothole. He has put claim into council for it too but waiting to hear.8

What a lot of rain! but finally stopped by 11 at which point
1) walking dogs to the nature reserve - lots of puddles to avoid and several squishy bits (below is the repainted loo)
2) went for a coffee with gbf at the botanics and had a toasted tea cake - true to mse brought home the unused butter pats
3) also brought home gbf and we had a cuppa and a laugh with mum - foisted 2 mince pies on him 'for later'
4) Leicester game - oh dear, they scored all 3 goals but lost 2-1. DrM texted to say he'd be staying at home to get rid of his cough - guess neither of those is a gbf pleasure but great crack right up to closing time - MrC is a taxi magnet and no sooner had we started walking home than one appeared - I live on his way so he dropped me off
5) one of them was a heavy smoker, has been cutting back and has realised even now he's spending £3500 a year so we talked about his dropping further (he doesn't want to go cold turkey) - made me happy that he is now making a focus on giving up totally. So 2023 any of £3500 he doesn't spend on ciggies (adjusted for budget increases) he'll spend on a first class ticket to somewhere good. I said I am focussing on paying off my mortgage so we can swap notes and i look forward to a postcard from somewhere lovely in 2024MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

Hello and a happy Hogmanay to everyone who posts !A rather cold day here, was just 2o but not frosty just damp and a very cold wind. Now raining again.Chat to DD1 first thing.Went into town first thing and dropped off four boxes of stuff at charity shop. Then may have bought two big hoodies ( that will cover my bum and keep me warm. One a very nice emerald green and another a stripy one. A lovely woollen dress and a pair of sportswear leggings. Things are certainly more pricier than they were even in blooming charity shops!Picked up DD2 prescription at pharmacy and popped into M&S , got some RTC crackers, cards and a calendar.Popped into cafe. I used to work with the owner years ago so had a nice chat with them. Then up the road and home.Managed to sort a space in the garage and lugged out the ginormous Christmas tree. Friend was passing by so we stood chatting for ages.Postie had been and had delivered my Christmas gift from DD1 so I started reading that this afternoon and have just filled up my hot water bottle and came up to bed! Rock and roll! But DD2 and her chap are downstairs and I just want to read.Sorted out flowers. Have some lovely white tulips. And the remains of last weeks RTC ones.Had a load of plant pots ( the kind you get with supermarket pot plants) so popped a post on our local FB page and they were collected within half an hour.Had takeaway pizza for tea.And then came upstairs!Thank you to everyone who posts and reads and comments every day /week. It’s a good place to share and be positive whilst always having a space for a vent or a moan but we are mainly a very positive bunch! May 2023 be a good one for us all. But most of all that we are here for each other.11

Hello again.
Lovely to be back, I missed you all!
Recent pleasures:
1) Lovely meal out on Boxing Day, big treat for me as I didn't cook at all over the holiday. Didn't have Christmas Dinner on Christmas Day so turkey and all the trimmings was enjoyed today instead.
2) Glad that that brought our Christmas festivities to an end. I love the run up to Christmas but always find the days themselves never quite live up to expectations and are therefore quite stressful - maybe because I'm a people-pleaser and try too hard and this is not always reciprocated (ouch!). Normally take our tree and decorations down so we start the new year with a clear slate but, as were away for the last few days, we will enjoy them up to Tuesday and then take them down.
3) Our trip to Loch Lomond. A wonderful area, beautiful scenery. Very grey and misty and very, very wet. Forecast had been dire but no snow on low levels, just on the mountains. Lovely festive cabin, they all had Christmas lights outside so looked very seasonal and jolly in the dark. Some cold but bracing walks on the shores of the loch, some good food and drink and a bit of 1:1 quality time with hubby. Lovely, and very relaxing. Sent a wine hamper today to the couple we don't even know who were kind enough to pass their holiday on to us and refused any payment. Was the least we could do!
4) We got home finally. This was a massive pleasure as, at times, I thought we were never going to make it! There were floods everywhere and diversions and we got stuck for three hours on the M74 which was closed both ways between one junction and the next but we didn't get any warnings about that until we were on it with no way off. Luckily we had just filled up with petrol and had a coffee and sandwich and a loo stop so we coped ok but it went from daylight to dark while we sat there and we still had over four hours journey time left. The emergency services and army were doing an amazing job and eventually cleared enough of the water off the road so the three lanes could get down to one and then onto the hard shoulder to drive past the worst of the flooding. Some poor people were waiting for breakdown lorries but heaven knows how and when they would get through and we saw several cars half submerged in water so daren't think what happened to those poor people. So in total our journey took about nine hours! But we got home safely which is the main thing.
5) To bed in my own bed, always a pleasure eventhough I didn't sleep as felt I was still travelling. Duh! So got up early and have had a lovely, pottering, sorting sort of day.
Totally echo mhagster's sentiments and wish everyone a very Happy New Year. See you in 2023.9 -
Pleasures for today (Saturday and New Years Eve)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Smaller son's temperature has gone down.
3) Bigger son and his girlfriend came round and made fajitas for lunch.
4) I went to M and S cafe and got some milk and bits.
5) Made cinnamon buns which have turned out very well.
6) Had an Indian delivered for our tea.
Happy New Year, everyone! It's been good talking to you all in 2022.9 -
1. 2023 is already up, up and away in Aotearoa:

2. Wild, wet and windy in &land, with 3 buses cancelled in Town of Horse. &, being still immobile, waited over 2 hours into darkness, grateful for NZ friends' left-behind trolley, crammed beyond gills, earning its storage space many times over. Many wonderful rtc's in emporium this arvo - and had remembered thermal cup for free cappuccino.👏🙂
3. So many pleasures recounted in these 2022 summaries, y compris downsides. Thankyou all for writing here. I'm thinking of several who've had very rough years indeed and others whose absences are noted. Blessings to you all. Hope a good house move is a 2023 one for you Frith.😃🤞. Vl - glad to see you feel yourself recovering. Lainey, take care.
4. & has never cared for Hilary Mantel's writing. Yes, double Booker Prizewinner - & knows. However, all this week, have heard her highly articulate memoir and feel horrified for a life she had from early childhood and grim medical misadventures which......well, please listen to this yourselves:

& apologises to Ms Mantel, RIP.
5. Lighting the way to 2023, Northern hemisphere, by the longtime expat.kiwi that & is:

Maybe it will next year.🤞

Fare thee well 2022 it's been a blast - some good things, some curve balls. Lovely day today with my lovely mum who you'll remember moved in with me end of September - DD2 is spending the weekend with her bf in Edinburgh
1) as a last minute treat for me and mum managed to get 2 tickets for the matinee (and last) performance of the Rep's Cinderella - walking down we met a dear friend of mine who I haven't seen since before Christmas - she was walking into town so we had 20 minutes to catch up
2) impromptu lunch at the Rep - they apologised that they could only offer us starters, sides and / or sweets - that is indeed all we have time for - mum had the pate and chips, I had the carrot and ginger soup and spicy chips, perfect
3) panto was fab - a modern rework with Ella farming her land which the wicked step mother sells to the evil property developer whose son, much to his father's disappointment, is an environmentalist - met a lad who works in the uni library cafe - he has down syndrome - he was a) thrilled to see me b) thrilled to see my bells earrings and proudly showed me the bells on his Christmas jumper c) thrilled to see my earrings had 'magically' transformed to snowmen by the interval (I am known for my earrings and always have a spare pair in my bag)
4) then walked home admiring the lights and sausage, mash and red cabbage for supper
5) then candles lit, prosecco poured and last 4 episodes of His Dark Materials - lovely way to see the year out, last of the tortilla chips are now a distant memory as is the prosecco, the boys are snoring on my bed and I'm just about to read last year's edition of December's Simple Things (mum brought a load round when she moved in, now of course it's delivered here so I already have January 2023 to enjoy tomorrow)May the year ahead be healthwehse the best ye kin remember
So ye dinna huv tae swally peels fae Janyiry fae Dicember
