5 OS pleasures in your day today - part 3

Welcome back Kittikins.
For Sunday
1. Good journey to London. Quiet train and no waiting for tubes.
2. Met a friend who we hadn't seen since Covid so had a lovely day with him. Had loads to catch up on.
3. Went to see The Nutcracker at the Royal Opera house. The ballet was beautiful and I loved it. There was a young girl sitting next to me and there were squeals of excitement coming from her too.
It is a stunning building too.
4. Found a bar/restaurant and had a few drinks listening to an excellent jazz quartet who were very good.
5. Had a meal which was good.
Then tried to get back to the bar which was next to the hotel. Caught a tube with the intention if changing at the embankment as none of us wished to be in the crowds to see the fireworks. The plan didn't work out. After we had got off tube train we were told we had to leave the station and couldn't change trains. No announcement of this in train or at station we got on at. We then had to leave the station and ended up at Trafalgar square but the crowds and being herded into bottle necks was a scary experience. I would be surprised if no one was seriously injured.
Eventually managed to make it back to hotel by walking as no tube stations were open due to the crowds!
For yesterday
1. A good night's sleep. Doesn't usually happen in a new bed.
2. Good journey home.
3. Quick tidy of house and some cooking was done
4. Both sons and girlfriends arrived for our postponed Christmas. Presents were opened, wine was drunk and food was eaten. Much laughter and talking.
5. Help with the tidying up.
Wishing everyone a happy New year11 -
A New Year Dip!
I nose, bin too busy with things!
Could I ask all those who received a book off me for xmas, the library would like them back before Friday!
Well after the quack stole my blood in early December, and they said me count was down, I had to strip to the B um hospital within a weak two be checked out, well routine as Mum had died aged 52 in 85, I can safely say 'I am still in original condition, with added buzz!'
Watched a few flix on the stream over the season and got back into the opera as well. So far watched Rigoletto and Hare cutter from Serville. A few wobbleades has bin taken with cheeses.
Listened to the football from the 'Theatre of Fish', no to good! Thoughs I think that Swann has bog hard Scunthorpe! As for Ms. DD and The Hatters. It is on!
Now abit to do with a snorker fest and best back.
Jenny still gives her buzz!I work from home so my cat can be fed on demand!9 -
Hey to Kittikins and good to see you posting along with DFV and the Admiral
For yesterday,
Up and at’em as no livery services on NYD so was with pony just after 7.30 to feed breakfast, put her out and do her stable, she is a clean horse that wees in once corner and poos in the other so no so bad.
Home and usual Sunday routine of breakfast with Archers omnibus.
Our normal NYD house meeting when plans were made and finances/budgets sorted.
Back to the yard for 2pm and took girlie for a little walk, it was a lovely sunny afternoon and quite mild at 11 degrees so nice to be out.
Watched another Bake off special then enjoyed a new series of Paul & Sukey on their motor home travels.

Good to see DFV, KK and even the Admiral 😊 OH is despairing Re Scunthorpe ☹️
We we have had a very chilled week, OH has rested well as he is getting on and still has a physical job !🤣
We've watched lots of tv, really enjoyed Happy Valley last night, hope we can stream it.
Enjoyed lots of good food, using up leftovers and a glass of Baileys in the evening. Friend came for dinner on New Year’s Eve, we had the Boeuf Bourginon I made a few weeks ago, leftovers turned into a pie yesterday.
One more restful day, bangers and mash for dinner, before OH goes back to work tomorrow and normal life returns.
Have a good day everyone 😊9 -
Another one creeping back in after a short absence.
Happy New Year all - I resolve to post daily as far as possible. It does me good to do so.
So for yesterday
1. Getting up at 5 is not a pleasure, but lying on the sofa under my new plug-in heated throw is. I watched 'Knives out - the Glass Onion'. I found it even better than the first Knives Out
2. DS got home OK after his second in a row night shift. He'd gone out very tired the evening before so I was worried about his drive home. He said it wasn't the safest thing he's ever done, but he made it back and the roads would have been quiet.
3. A couple of hours chatting to DD who stayed the night. She went back home at lunchtime.
4. Took the tree and decs down. We're supposed to be going to ICT for a few days today and i didn't want to come back to them.
5. New year - new resolution to do 1 or 2 sessions of yoga a week (as well as a swim every week). Did a session that was very relaxing so i'm glad i did.
Having more than 5 today - cashing in all those banked ones!
6. Cooked a beef, bacon and red wine casserole while listening to christmas songs. THe last time i'll put them on this season.
7. watched "Marie Antoinette" - while i'm sure it's full of historical inaccuracies, I'm enjoying it.
8. As ever, the ubiquitous pleasure of the washing being hung outside.
have a great day all.I wanna be in the room where it happens9 -
Hello. Lovely and sunny here today.
Nice to 'meet' you, Kittikins, and a very exciting year ahead for you!
DfV - you were very much in my thoughts yesterday so good that you touched base here.
Some simple little pleasures to start the year off:
1) It's nice to go travelling but it's so nice to come home too - wasn't that a song?! We feel so much better for a break but my home has settled back around me now like a gentle hug.
2) Having said that, sounds like we will be off again at some point. Son has been away for New Year but informed me during a text exchange that he and new partner are going to New York later in the year.... and that we are going too! More details, he tells me, when he gets back tomorrow. Oh, ok then! My big birthday in March (though I spent all last year telling everyone I was in my seventieth year so it won't feel much different when I actually am 70 - how did that happen??!!) and I plan on having a year of lovely experiences so this just might be one of them.
3) Spent some time yesterday teaching big grandson to make the oat cookies he eats by the dozen. A really easy recipe (Twinks Hobnobs off the MSE forums but I forget which one) and they turned out really well so he will take over as official stocker-upper of the biscuit jar.
4) Finished a book last night - Mad Honey - not specifically about bees but some really interesting 'bee facts' along the way and a thought-provoking read. I like a book that stays with you when you've finished it. Will start my next one some time today as I like being well into one before I read it in bed at night time.
5) Because we went away straight after Christmas we are only just starting to make inroads into the nice foodstuff we didn't eat over the holiday. Quite a lot of stuff portioned up and in the freezer, we are currently doing our best with the cheeses, ham and chocolates. Apart from fresh fruit and veg I reckon we will easily get through January and some of my favourite meals are the ones that are cobbled together even though they can never be repeated!
Right, off to do a bit more pottering. Have a good day.9 -
Good day 2 of 2023 to you all, including those for whom a number of us hold special concerns and cares.Kittikins - how marvellous! Well remember all that you were speaking of then, including meeting x, leading to your changes and happiness now, in Life and work. Can add that I was thinking of you, LoveFullShelves, Sparrer and Caterina the other day, wondering if any of you still lurked. 🙂
So good to read your rested and recovered you, vl. Fabulous times, apart from Tube bleughh.
Pk - happy 2023 ferrety new year.🐾1. Over 4 miles' rural walking yesterday to 2 services, much peopled, as so many want to be present for each different 'last' one until S retires. She has been, still is, wonderful. They've continued wild playing Poetry for Neanderthals with new players, most recently the visiting parents and partners of their adult children. Suffolk Sue - how has it gone with your tribe?😃2. Phone charging and faffing really, really is fixed - at last. This is a relief, when it's being much needed atm. Now for car......🙏😬🙄3. Mhags is into her offline January, but this one from Aotearoa is waiting for her and Haggis. & loves it😁:4. Crocheting 2 amigurumi oz animals, koala and saltwater crocodile, over last couple of days, for non-obvious reasons. Strange workings and peculiar instructions, but they'll be something like their pics eventually. Has anyone else had experience with this Japanese craft meld? To me, it's just crochet is crochet is crochet is crochet.5. The usual late annual calendar global sending fest to far places will happen this week. Some of today could well be parcelling day mse-style, anticipating many £s to send. &'s NZ$ payout, for which alert came nearly 7 months ago still hasn’t arrived🤬. & is very cross and becoming more so.Extra for those who like listening. & highly recommends this terrific Little Dorritt, started this morning:.....and &'s NYE candle burnt for 36 hours.❤CAP[UK]for FREE EXPERT DEBT &BUDGET HELP:

Good afternoon. A beautiful sunny wintery day
Hello again to all the returnees. Glad you're back and all is well.
Kittikins - great news. A wedding! Brilliant!
Highdays - I'm about halfway through Mad Honey. Just had the completely unexpected plot twist!. Love all the bee facts too.
Had a lovely few days. Indeed a lovely festive season all round!
DDiL arranged a family get together for DS birthday. Very relaxed and laid back but family nights seem so special now, don't they?
Have taken down the decorations today but I'm leaving the tree for now. It's only little (maybe 3ft inc the pot) but very pretty so I want to keep it a little longer. It's a real one so may be able to nurture it until next year.
Made a chicken and bean stew yesterday. Very tasty and very filling. Quite a lot left so might try a trick I've learnt here and have it another day as a pie! Frozen for now.
Switched tv on last night and stumbled across Dirty Dancing. Had to watch that again! Love it!
DGD had said she'd like some fingerless gloves. Think I can manage that! Off to check out my wool stash. Must be something suitable there.
Happy 🌞day everyone

I have literally just finished Mad Honey ! I gasped at the halfway through plot twist and was relieved there was still a little one at the end.JP is my very favourite author so I wasn’t sure what a co- authored story would be like but it was superb!10

Mad Honey mhags? My current book is murder on teh Christmas Express - uses outwith incorrectly!!!
Thinking of you and your family DfV, never apologies for not posting
Welcome back kittikins and glad to hear your MOT and service has found all in order BOP
1) got a couple more hours of reviewing my phd student's thesis - shaping up nicely
2) then off to Botanics for the New Year 5km fun run, or 5048m as DrM (who organises it) admitted to - it's 4 circuits - Mum did 2 then peeled off with a friend who has a bad knee, I continued with a friend from Mennies and, apart from her wanting me to go on internet dating, we had a good chat
3) DrM and MrE had done us proud with refreshments, served in the Paterson Centre which was toasty warm - I commiserated with DrM over Leicester's performance and he celebrated Luton's performance with me
4) tried to settle down to some more thesis but it is the holiday season and a long walk with the boys won out - I am a member of Paws for Plastic where we aim to pick up a couple of discarded bits of plastic each dog walk - today I picked up 7 bottles, 3 plastic bags and a pill packet - rewarded with a glorious sunset from the top of Balgay
5) home to a big cup of tea and guacamole on toast then my daily 23 declutter (thanks to Mrs SD) - found £16 in still in date Tesco vouchers yay
