Hello. It’s been a cold day here …blue sky but not much heat!A pottering around at home kind of day. Trying to declutter, stuff has accrued and it’s time to go!Did a five minute stint in the garden! Chopped back honeysuckle and raspberry canes. Too cold for anything else but I thought if I do a few minutes each day it’s a help!Finished my book. Engrossed from the start.Stuff in boot of car for tip, bag of stuff for charity shop, 2 big items collected this evening and a bag for the food bank.Watching Happy Valley from the start as I can’t remember what happened.Had cheese on toast for tea.10

kittikins - wow - matrimony & A levels - things they have moved along! Now in a job where you can take a holiday & mean it? Hurrah!villagelife - ye gods, sounds like it was all a bit close in London - very glad you're home safe!BoP - ah, snorkers & Proper Food!LaineyT - a house meeting? Ah to plan budgets & holdays, phew.PaulieHerts - after all the excitement a bit of 'normal life' may be nice...VJsmum - right with you worrying about the young & driving after night shifts.Highdays - a well trained cook is a joy. Start them on the biscuits but move them onto Real Foods as soon as you dare. I keep coming here for sanctuary!ampersand - you crochet amigurumi too? When I thought I couldn't be more in awe of you...Happycas - the first "fingerless gloves" I knitted were two rectangles with judicious seaming. Not wildly beautiful but cosy.DundeeDoll - you went 'fun running' in this cold? Awed respect!mhagster - I think winter gardening is either defensive or preparatory & 5 minutes is usually quite long enough.Huge pleasure that I remembered a load of helpful stuff when sis called to say she'd fallen and broken her wrist in 2 places. Delighted to hear baby sis promptly went over bearing easy-to-heat food & an assortment of slip-on garments. The Only Connects have been loads of fun, even if my sons are bewildered at the clothing. They are hilariously bad at missing vowels...Amusing twist of Fate, (the lads steered my viewing) I started on Glass Onion, then the 'first" Knives Out & I liked that more but then I like a sort-of sealed room murder.Son going out to get a carabiner, handed me his still hot HWB. Snug with a nice book under 2 HWBs & a fleece blanket - bliss!Found a bag of chocolate coins & the BBE is March 2024. Duly 'banked' in planning-for-Next-Christmas bag.Health strength love & courage to all as have need, & greater love hath no individual that they hand over their HWB.10

Hello, Kittikins!
Hope you are doing OK, DfV.
Pleasures for today (Monday?)
1) Not a bad sleep. I didn't have my recurring dream about talking to Grayson Perry in a car park. Instead, I dreamed we had both gone to an interview to be a TA in a primary school. I was pretty sure I hadn't got the job and GP invited me to the pub!
2) Bigger son and his girlfriend came round and had a cooked breakfast.
3) I thought I would give them a bit of time together (now they live in different houses) so went to Waitrose cafe. I put the wheels in motion to organise an assessment for ASD. I have a feeling this should have been done about 45 years ago... I can't tell family members (except bigger son, who knows) as they don't even believe that smaller son has it, despite the 11 years in special schools!
4) I then went to the cathedral in Floody City to look at the Christmas trees all the different charities decorate then set out around the cloisters. I had a sausage roll in the Chapter House.
5) Back home, saw the neighbours briefly then conquered the mountain of washing up and 2 large bags of clothes that bigger son had found in his car (from his stays at his girlfriend's mum's). I cooked meatballs for tea with HM tomato sauce from the freezer then left the oven glove on the ring and scorched it.
6) Did lots of Arabic. Printed out a helpful alphabet guide but first my printer decided to print out everything it had refused to print since November...
7) Fairly organised for tomorrow (I'm helping at the cinema, but not with any of the racists, so should be fine). Soup is thawing for me and for bigger son, who will be back at work. We are also looking round a house tomorrow.
8) Smaller son just beat me at chess.

1. Picked up parcels, one containing a variety of half price bridesmaids dresses for my soon to be nieces to choose from.2. Treated beloved (and myself) to an apple turnover3. De-Christmassed the house. Have made a donation to a local charity to take the tree away and chip it4. Not a pleasure - the washing machine seems to be dead, but the good news is at least an engineer visit will be covered by the warranty.5. Made great dinner, with enough for beloved to take leftovers for lunch tomorrow. I'll be enjoying my daily lunch in the uni dining hall with my colleagues 🙂10

For yesterday,
A visit from eldest DSS, good catch up and small dog wouldn’t leave him alone.
After a couple of days of feeling slightly better my cough made a reappearance so rest of day spent at home.
Looking through this year’s Almanac, this years theme is the night sky.
Had taken a pack of sausage meat out of the freezer, it was originally intended for festive sausage rolls but I made a large sausage plait instead and we had some hot for tea.
Early night as feeling rough, avec HWB as per DFV’s wise advice.

Morning all - blowing a hoolie and peeing it down here in welsh wales.
(should have said yesterday - welcome back Kittikins)
Pleasures for yesterday
1. A lazy morning (seems to be a bit of a theme). Watched Marie Antoinette - am cautious of historical inaccuracies / artistic license but am enjoying the story and finding out something of the times.
2. DS finally woke up!! He'd slept for about 18 hours (with a pee break!). Night shifts certainly took it out of him.
3. My favourite sourdough with avo and bacon for lunch
4. Went to the Severn Valley Railway as two engines were going out of ticket and it was their last run. I do rather like a bit of night steam - whistles a blowing, steam steaming, sparks flying. All very atmospheric. As working volunteers of a different steam railway, we get the trip for free too. All helped along by a swift half in the pub in between the two trains. I'd said to OH on the way there "Will we get on this train, it's likely to be popular". Says he "Oh it's fine, it'll be DESERTED". It was HEAVING 🤣
5. A meal in Welshpool on the way to ICT - faggots, yummy.
Have good day all, stay warm and dry.I wanna be in the room where it happens11 -
Yesterday I was listening to Julie Hesmondhalgh being interviewed on Radio 2 - her family have a lovely tradition. During the year they write down any lovely 'things' and put them in a jar. Come NY they open the jar and read back about all their happy times in the year before.I thought that this was a delightful idea and will be doing it here.11

A quiet day
Up early then dozed off again and had the weirdest dream. I’ve always been a vivid dreamer and they often feel very real. I keep having ones about going into mums house but the new chap is in and I shouldn’t be there. So this one was I was in his shed ( but more like a summer house type shed than the actual spiderwebby place it was. Anyway he was home and I sneaked out under the kitchen window to tell the kids we had to go, then he found me on my way back to get my things. Kids were just young . Weird. So felt a bit discombobulated when I woke up.Walked to supermarket. Had a bag of plastic recycling and stuff for the food bank. Dropped off some other things on way there. Me to DD2( who was going out) I’ll not be long…also me…hello! How are you. Happy New Year…stood chatting for ages!Washed cupboards under the sink. Threw out rubbish/recycling.Watched Waterloo Road.
waiting for DD2 to come home to see if we are dining together. She was out for lunch. If not I’ll just have toast.9
