5 OS pleasures in your day today - part 3

Hello again.
Today's pleasures:
1) The joy of a lie in this morning. Finished my meds now which is good because I didn't sleep well when I was taking them and had very odd, crazy dreams that sometimes got a bit nightmarish - eeek!! Much better sleep last night.
2) Finally surfaced to find hubby had done a massive pile of ironing which had been staring at me balefully for a couple of days but I was still feeling too washed out to do it. All done now and, truth be told, he does a better and more thorough job of it than I ever do.
3) Slow cooker came into its own and made a delicious rich beef casserole overnight so tea tonight is sorted and there is currently an Eve's pudding in the oven, smelling totally scrummy. Real comfort food.
4) We are discovering some lovely parks down here now we are getting out and about a bit more. Took littlest grandson to the biggest for a couple of hours this afternoon. Although we have had a lot of rain there were still lots of crispy leaves to walk through and jump in. Fun was had on the swings, slides and climbing frames but a moment of sadness when he no longer wanted pushing on the swings but can do it himself - the end of an era; we have been pushing grandsons on swings for the last 16 years. As dusk fell there was a lovely melancholy coldness in the air and a smell of wet earth and woodsmoke, very nostalgic.
5) Very welcome hot steaming cuppa when we got home, lamps and candles lit, soft throw and a very good book await. Bliss!
Have a lovely evening all.

Work day number one done! Hurrah! And it wasn’t too mad just for a change. A very nice change! Tips were meh! But I’d rather have not crazy and not much tips!Had a nice walk with doggy first thing. We just missed very heavy showers. Just us and the birds. Was dropping colleague off home when I saw my friend walking by so tooted the horn and she sat in the car and we chatted for about 15 minutes.I have six leftover baked potatoes! So will have one for tea and chop the others up for roasties and put them in the freezer.Yesterday I started back at fat club! I’d done quite well earlier on in the year and then just lost all oomph for it when mum died as my routine was all out of sync. Anyway needs must and back I went.Yesterday was wet when I went out with doggy first thing ( there’s a theme…) but it brightened into a nice day. Did a bit of sorting out and decluttering so I have three bags to go to charity shop this week. I still have mum stuff to go through in the garage. And some things that I kept ( I think quite reactively) that I now realise I don’t need / won’t use so shall pass them on to someone who might.Read for a bit. Fire was in and candles were lit. All cosy then went to bed early.6

Pleasures for today (Sunday)
1) Good to get up after 2 hours sleep.
2) Mum and dad popped round as it is my dad's birthday.
3) Bigger son and his girlfriend were here for a while.
4) My shoes disintegrated yesterday so I went to Sports Direct for some replacements.
5) Walked 3 miles to break the new shoes in. The base of one of my big toes aches now! Talked to a few dog walkers and one dog had jumped over a fence so was stuck on the wrong side. (There are various fenced areas on the nature reserve depending where the cattle are). The man managed to climb over the fence but couldn't get himself and the dog back over so I had a little trot round to find the nearest gate then shouted to him.
6) Made pizza dough for 2 pizzas then made coleslaw.
7) Couldn't get the printer to work so I shall go to the library tomorrow to sort out resources for English. Lots of chaps won't be there because of the football match in the afternoon...
Nearly forgot number 8)! I turned the tv on this morning to catch the news and Homes Under the Hammer was on BBC1. I was half watching it then there was my estate agent, talking about a large property in carpet town !!6 -
Hope DD is just busy but doing ok.
For yesterday,
The usual early start, reading and small dog cuddles.
Weather cold but dry so took the opportunity to get outside in the garden, bit of digging and clearing.
Came in to listen to new series of ISIHAC and prep lunch, steak pie with veg, followed by rhubarb & ginger crumble.
We did get out for an afternoon walk, the farmer was ploughing the fields and lovely, earthy smell.
Bit of tv, bit of Yahtzee playing, some cheese & wine.

Pleasures for last few days
1. Finished night shifts and it was not raining on drive home.
2. Early finish so thought doggie would be asleep-oh no it was playtime at 3am, she did go back to sleep at 5 so managed a few hours.
3 Doggie walk in light drizzle, found a new place - less mud and short grass.4. Used up very ripe tomatoes in a sauce - ds2 said it was very good.
5. Bargains to be had at the charity shop, I even managed to get a new umbrella. Other bits are brand new and will be used for Christmas presents.
6. Now in bed warm and ready to sleep.6 -
Pleasures for today (Monday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) I went to the library to print some sheets out for the afternoon session. Had no change at all on me so I owe the librarian 45p!
3) Back home and watched half the England v Iran match with both sons.
4) Had to leave at half time to go to the English lesson, where everyone was watching the match. They did all come and join us and we just kept shouting the changing score to each other. We were chatting generally and the other English lady showed a photo of her granddaughter. I showed them a picture of bigger son and asked if he looks like me (he does, just with a black beard) and they asked, "Which country do you come from?" which amused me!
5) Popped to Sainsburys.
6) When I got home, bigger son said the estate agent had phoned, asked if he was my partner, then refused to ask him some questions about the house. Is this positive? We shall find out in the morning.
7) Bigger son and I dismantled the sofa and took the cushions and the TV upstairs to watch the Wales match. How stressful it was!
8) In bed now with 1hwb.6 -
For yesterday,
Into horsey town for a food shop, quick coffee with my pal.
The credit card bill arrived with the charges for both cars MOT’s, services etc, pleasure is the money had been tucked away in the sinking fund over the year.
Watched the first half of the England game but then had to leave as farrier was coming to trim girlie’s feet, weather was atrocious to drive in but home by 5.30 and the house was warm & cosy.
Easy tea of fish cakes and cheesy beans.
Watched the Wales game too, they really do have the best national anthem of all the home nations.5 -
Hello.
The rain here today has certainly come down with a vengeance. Luckily we had nowhere urgent to be and nothing urgent to do. Did feel sorry for those having to get up and go out in it early doors.
Some pleasures:
1) Finished my book in bed this morning but it has stayed with me ever since. An excellent book - A Terrible Business - and very brave to write about something as harrowing as Aberfan. I can look at it with the perspective of an adult and mother now, I was just a child at the time. Not a pleasure subject-wise but very well written, sensitive and thought-provoking.
2) Managed a very wet walk with my bairn, first time up the steep hill for quite a while as I've been unwell. The pleasure is I made it but have come to the conclusion you get unfit a lot quicker than you get fit. Never mind, I'll fettle it over the next couple of weeks, I will not be beaten!
3) Caught up with The Christmas Chronicles, had got a bit behind but a lovely pleasure having a few days to catch up on. That panettone and mincemeat sandwich thing definitely has my name on it this year! Another incentive to persevere with no 2) pleasure if I don't want it sitting on my hips which is where it will be heading for sure.
4) Lots of upheaval in the big house, hubby and son are busy demolishing walls and floors, taking out pipework and converting a bathroom into a bedroom among other things. The pipework went to a shower, bath, two sinks, a loo and two towel rails and to complicate thing was put in before the underfloor heating so they are taking out what they can and capping off the rest through little gaps in the floor. Our water is periodically being turned off and on so is 'splurting' out of every tap and, at times, I'm sure one or other of them will appear through my ceiling. However,I think it sounds worse than it is and they are pleased with progress, never happier than when they are armed with a sledgehammer. The house will 'flow' much better when it's done, hopefully not flowing through my ceiling.
5) To take my mind off all the sawing and banging I have started some Christmas baking. We (me and the grandsons) make as many presents as we can rather than buying them so orange and almond shortbread, Rocky Road and cranberry and stem ginger mince pies were made and popped into the freezer today. Enough 'mistakes' (mostly intentional but don't tell him) for hubby to enjoy sampling after tea. He gets most upset when everything gets packed away, says the freezer eats better than he does. This is so not true so don't go feeling sorry for him!
Right, the timer's just gone off so tea should be ready, certainly smells done.
Have a good rest of the evening.
