1. Back was better at the of the day than the start of the day. Mainly as I didn't go to work. I was meant to be working at the place which aggravates my back more and I couldn't do it.
2. Lovely messages from a couple of work friends.
3. A sunny day made me feel brighter.
4. Picked more tomatoes and are them immediately. Also enjoying apples fresh from the tree.
5. A sleep in the afternoon.8 -
Twas Welney &
For yesterday,
Woke up hungry so fried egg on toast for brekkie.
Last minute decision to have a day at the races, Capt S had some vouchers so didn’t cost us much and it was a warm, sunny afternoon.
Had two winners!
Sleek, beautiful horses.
Tired in the evening after lots of walking so watched an extra slice and then went to bed for a read.

Rubbish internet but in Hobart one of my very favourite places in the world.Swim this morning in Melbourne.Breakfast with DD1.
A bit of retail therapy ( I always feel I’d need therapy afterwards but bought a very RTC wooly jumper)
Quick back to hotel then back to where we’d been shopping to get the airport bus.Flight delayed so a bit of an age in the queue and then it’s just an hour in the sky.Lashing with rain and blooming freezing ( hence jumper purchase) it’s like a wet winter’s night back home!)
Went and had some very tasty dinner at a Thai restaurant then bedtime!9 -

Pleasures for today (Friday)
1) A lie in. Dreamed that I was trying to find Mr E in a leisure centre but wasn't sure if I could jump over the turnstiles or not.
2) Almost sorted smaller son's Universal Credit out. Lots of paperwork checked, phone call made, online gubbins. We are going to have a zoom chat with the lady in a week or so.
3) Conquered washing up mountain. The washing came in off the line - nearly dry after 2 full days outside!
4) Went for some training on how to teach English. I was worn out after 2.5 hours of concentrating.
5) Had a pot of tea in M and S.
6) Went to the shoe shop to look for boots. A very chatty young lady happily gave me the low down on all boots and prices and they even had a few in my size. The ones I liked were £139 so I said I would go away and think about it. Obviously this did not take much thinking about so I ordered similar from M and S for £49.
7) Smaller son is in a very jolly mood. I got a hug when I got in, he wants to go out tomorrow with my family for an Indian AND I have been invited to watch the England match with him this evening. I hope he isn't ill !!
8) Still trying to sell the canoe off the allotment. Hopefully the man will finally appear tomorrow...
9) Looking forward to the new series of Ghosts plus the Last Leg later. And the England match! Off to clean the bathroom now...7 -
It is of course unlike me to dump & run but RL is plain loco. I'll not drop & dash without saying a Huge Thank You to everyone who thought of me at all this week, let alone on Friday. We Survived. Well, so far.OS pleasures recently...Last week Middleson ignored my (texted) pleas to check the plum tree. (Not a good negotiating position.) Today I picked up plums fallen on the ground (I can reach them!) & shovelled them into pots last seen holding unsuccessful hawthorn cuttings. At least in Spring, I’ll be able to find the plum stones & try to coax them on.Awww! Tap on the door, pizza delivery & one lad in kitchen cooking chilli, one in shower so rousted out - no not his order…. We really must work on our family communication! Wished the poor bloke all the best, finding his customer.Orchard in a box arrived, but not the Morello cherry, Yet. Once it arrives, I shall be instructing the under-gardener to dig various holes & we will finally inter Himself with grace & misdirection.Ironing funeral shirts to the earworm “come with me and you’ll be in a world of pure imagination”…. (I ask you, me, ironing?! And yet. Like preparing for Remembrance.)It’s a slightly embarrassing pleasure but as one sister wails about how this is the first service she’s been to “at the front”, I managed to say nothing & my sons held exemplary poker player faces. So proud of them!Definite pleasure, Youngest’s cooked a smashing Spag Bol and everyone is calmer & happier once slightly stuffed.Facebook awe at The Queue. It is wonderfully British, and (all going well) should be a splendid National Gesture. Those wristbands will be treasured for years. [So proud of Queue Tracker code - Google said couldn't be done, the Civil Service Did It Anyway!]The Advent Calendar of tiny pots of jam has arrived & mum has carefully put it out if the main thoroughfare but where she’ll see it daily, until Advent when she can move it to the kitchen & tuck in! Huge pleasure in seeing her just look at the box, heft it & go a bit twinkly in anticipation!Sister is cracking on with a gift of a 500 piece jigsaw puzzle (Monet, Poplars on the Epte). She’s got the border sorted & is now patiently working on two patches of cloud. I’m awed at her patience, & charmed by how reassured she is by it - it’s a puzzle, she has all the pieces, it’s just a matter of time. Even when the house is quivering with emotions, she’s in a bubble of contemplative serenity.Thank you! In the midst of a very difficult service that ticked various boxes & missed several points, I was upheld throughout. At the meal following, I forgot my credit card pin & they dealt with it as with a pay-by-phone easily & we just had such a lovely time. Then home, out of frock, brush & braid hair away & slump, thinking only to thank you all.Cat watching like a radar station as mum carries his sachet of food! The Christmas ‘money’ chocolate coins is in stock - along with Halloween tokens (jeered at by youngest as “a relatively stable currency”.)I bought a little tin in a train shape with chocolate money in. My sister fell loudly & rapturously in love - pleasure in handing it over & seeing her delight!Remembering the wake, one little cousin ordered a gin & tonic (Tanqueray, alcohol free) so he has serious 11 year old bragging rights that he had a gin & tonic at his great-uncle’s funeral! That none of us really liked the taste somehow made it even funnier…Digital clock with day & morning/ afternoon/ night has arrived & it really was as easy to set up as they claimed! Mum tickled to see clear guidance as to morning or not.Mum topped up against covid. Huge relief she’s safer is a pleasure! [Spoke too soon, sister got it & shared. So far rest of funeral party safe, but oh strewth.]Oh my. The state funeral. So beautiful! (Plus I adore the pipes & drums.) Just wish I could feast on the pageantry without a coffin. You know those hanging photo sleeves, near a poster size of pockets? Mum’s got several (all hung on one hook) & as I copy-photoed various images of Dad, I found a whole sleeve of photos of the lad. Even a couple of Himself. Pleasure there are photos still & I have copies.Going home, the service station in the toll road was full of people in black - police from multiple regions & Heddlu (Welsh police), all wanting coffee & a bite as they travel back too. So glad of them!Aww, lass at supermarket sorted me two £2 coins & one a St.Paul (“in defeat magnanimity, in peace goodwill”) in my change - I wished her a happy day & as-happy customers as I.Argh - despite that jab, mum has tested positive for covid. One sister is runny with cold & guilt, us others are so far testing negative but anxious! Pleasure is a lot of the remote support is in place (just noone’s supposed to go in to provide hugs).I can hear thuds & clunks from the kitchen, & smile. Youngest is heating the leftover apple pie. Good communication means I am not fussed by thuds & better still am tucked in on another floor so temptation is well out of reach.Aw, sons coping with getting a cheque in the post & not being wholly certain what to do with it. They’re intrepid, heading off the post office to ask for help. (Me suddenly snarling: I have a paper fiver they could change….)Sat at work-at-home desk, I suddenly remembered I left a Playmobil “I sit here!” figure in place in the office after packing up yesterday. Bless him, a colleague has relocated Sir Black Swan to his locker before the “every desk will be clear” police got wind! Phew…Colleagues wanted a celebrations sheet Not for Official Attention, so there is a quiet list "X completed training, G is on holiday in Morocco next week, Dig is back from burying people" & the team are snorting with laughter. They know I throw axes for fun - adding a slightly muddy shovel feeds the imagination. On a grey unpromising morning, I pegged towels out & now it’s sunny. Hurrah for the Met app that suggested this wasn’t pure whistling in the dark!Modesty is one if those things, you’ve either got it or you ain’t. My sons, squarely in the “you ain’t”. Love ‘em to bits anyway as they make me laugh, often. On which happy thought, health strength love & courage to all as have need, happy travels, healthy organs & reliable hot water bottles likewise.9

Ah, those Washes, Lainey😁......🛶 and the old riverbank pub. Is that still there? Remembered fondly, with late and beloved R. We were often flooded ourselves, 3 ways: the river, the Cut, the road under the rail bridge impassable. Many a car came - still comes - to grief under there.
1. So good to have Vicar back, refreshed and happy yesterday.
2. In last day, & has enjoyed fresh h-g raspberries, figs, grapes, French salad leaves, beans and volunteer tatoes.😋
3. Luckily didn't waste fuel to U15s🏉earlier. Now know it has been postponed, but didn't learn this until nearly minuit! Def. a Phew!
4. Wonderful news quiz tonight 🤣 -

Potent and spot on.
5. & will be in full HRH mode for first time this season at Peacock HQ in a few hours. All were spared a fortnight ago, with & at big wedding. Many 1st XV boys asked at training in the week. & reassured them: raffle £-coshing resumes this day.😁

Not sure on PH &, Three Tuns maybe?
For yesterday,
Early trip over to see equine girlie, after just two weeks we are settled at our new yard and happy we made the move. Hadn’t realised just how toxic the previous yard had been until out.
Home, quick change and then headed off to visit my maternal uncle.
He was very pleased with the tea loaf I’d made him, then we took him out to lunch at smashing old thatched pub. He talked a lot about family history which is always fascinating to me and his son, my cousin, is getting him to write a lot of it down so it won’t be forgotten.
Home, small dog pleased to see us and we had a walk around the fields.
Tried to watch the footie but fell asleep and only woke up to go to bed!
