gong to have an early night tonight, home tomorrow, taxi 8:15am zzzzz
1) up early to get into Sliema for the hop on hop off bus - found the websites all very confusing but lovely man at kiosk got me sorted. 2 hours off bus at St Anton's Gardens - absolutely beautiful (had 3 litres of water with me plus a sarnie I'd made at breakfast)
2) back on bus for rest of 3 hour (!) island tour - all very interesting and all very beautiful - i already have plans for next time
3) stayed past Sliema onto Valetta - wanted to visit St Pauls but got the wrong church which was shut - lady opposite told me all churches shut 2 - 5 - so found myself a very nice tea shop and had a big pot of tea in the cool
4) wandered round till 5 at which point I found out my mistake - the chancellor was just leaving, genuinely upset he'd got a meeting but honestly, all my error! anyway I gave him greetings from St Pauls in Dundee and said I'd try to visit at the right time next July
5) then found the ferry back to Sliema - lovely (and much cheaper than a taxi) - had fish and chips then back to hotel where i've had 2 cups of tea, a lovely bath and listening to the archers.
Hope you've all survived the heat wave and lives are getting back to normalMrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

Oooft just back in from mum’s house which is absolutely baking hot! 🥵 Will update on the declutter thread in a mo.
Rubbish sleep…more rubbish than usual. Doggy was very unsettled last night for no obvious reason other than he was so it was up down, he would just stand, he would lie, he would up again and so on for most of night. Anyway bright enough today so didn’t contact vet ( going on Friday)
I’ve snoozed on and off all day when he’s snoozing I was snoozing!Sorted out more piles of stuff upstairs in the office. Less stuff than there was…if only people would pick up when they say they will.Had chicken and pasta for tea whilst doggy had chicken and rice for his.Waited till DD2 was in and showered ( because I’m nice like that ) and went round to mums for an hour. Had defrosted freezer so washed all the towels I’d put down and hung them on line , they’ll dry overnight.10 -
Pleasures for today (Wednesday)
1) Not a bad sleep, though was woken early as it is noisy with all the windows open.
2) 25 degrees inside now.
3) Took smaller son to college and dropped off his cards. He had a good time and has been invited on to the fantasy football team thing that the staff do! It was his last day of education today.
4) Ridiculous driving spotted on the way to college. We go over a huge roundabout where you can go straight on (towards Pershore) or left/right on to the M5. A little silver Fiesta went all the way down the sliproad towards the M5 north and then changed its mind (huge tailback) and REVERSED ALL THE WAY BACK OUT, onto the roundabout !!!
I went to Waitrose while smaller son was at college and read the paper and had 2 pots of tea.
5) Spent an hour or so in the afternoon cutting back plants in the front strip of garden so pedestrians can get past. Also tied the hollyhocks up.
6) Did cauliflower cheese for tea.
7) After tea, I made a batch of bacon, pepper and lentil soup (need to liquidise it just now), roast vegetables bakes and 5 take away containers of tomato sauce for the freezer.
8) Watching Gavin and Stacey. My favourite episode was just on - Gwen's surprise party.8 -
For yesterday,
Awful night sleep wise so it was a pleasure to get up to a cooler world, all windows open and a fresh breeze blowing through.
Over to see my mare, she had obviously been hot day before as had a few dried sweat marks in her coat which I washed off but otherwise fine, hydrated etc and on good form. The living room was lovely & cool, lay on the sofa to read and woke up nearly two hours later!
Long chat with my Uncle and a catch up on family news.
A cooked evening meal! After several days of just wanting salads we thoroughly enjoyed pasta with salmon & courgettes.8 -
Lovely few days away in South Wales visiting old college friend. We had a very welcome cooling dip at Pem Brey beach on Sunday as the temperatures reached 29. Unfortunately I managed to trip over in my friend’s front garden, dressed only in my nightie! Caught my left foot and my big toe is swollen and bruised as is my right knee, worst is my left elbow which must have taken most of my weight. I have the most horrendous bruise all under my arm and it is quite painful. Luckily I have an automatic car so managed to drive safely home via Reading, dropping my other friend off. Drove home in the sweltering heat on Monday, thank goodness for air conditioning! Couldn’t do much on Tuesday due to heat and arm and two sleepless nights downstairs.
Haircut yesterday and actually cooked dinner accompanied by homegrown runner beans. Haircut yesterday helped to keep cooler.
Decent nights sleep last night back upstairs 😊
have a good Thursday everyone 😊6 -
Ooo, look after yourself, PaulieHerts.
Pleasures for today (Thursday)
1) A lie in!
2) Not too hot.
3) Did my DBS check for my cinema volunteering. I did say I've got one that renews automatically each year but they wanted to do one of their own.
4) Did the last bits of admin for smaller son's college. That is the end now (until GCSE results day).
5) Went round lots of charity shops. One about 5 miles away I nearly didn't bother with but I'm glad I did as those were my finds for today - a Mistral fine cotton top and a cardigan.
6) Bigger son was here when I got back, but grumpy and monosyllabic. He worked in his shed for a few hours and I kept the sandwiches and cakes going but I never found out what was wrong with him. He then said he was going and drove off!
7) Tidied up, did a load of washing and planted fresh cress on the kitchen windowsill. Weeded the garden a bit more and tidied out there.
8) Had fish and chips for tea.
A bit tense now as smaller son is ill. Readers may remember that he has two states - in perfect health or in resus... So far it is headache, nauseated and a few minutes of being slightly confused. I think the autism overrides minor symptoms (it's something complicated called proprioception) as last time he complained a bit about a headache then said it had gone. Later in the day, over the course of an hour, his temperature went to 42 and he did not regain consciousness for 6 hours... that was sepsis.8 -
A day most long!Up early, round to mums to fill car to go to tip to get back before DD2 went to work.Chat to sister.Update on decluttering thread x 2
Home with doggy all day.Hoovered upstairs/downstairs. Washed floors.,cleaned bathrooms.Had a big snooze at same time as doggy did!Tag team when DD2 came home. Back round to mums. Manhandled a wardrobe downstairs ( visions of it going straight out the window at bottom of stairs!) and a fridge & freezer also manhandled! By a wee woman!I may ache tomorrow!Dog continues to improve.7 -
1. Just on. Have heard it before, but oh! Freddie will always bear repeating:
Great Lives, Matt Lucas chooses Freddie Mercury.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/live:bbc_radio_four_extra
2. 1p found in Town of Horse🙂 From &'s Nana: 'See a penny, pick it up. All the day you'll have good luck.'
3. Somewhat true! Extreme kitsch early 70s set of avocado dishes and forks, all handpainted, probably sweatshop labour of the time. Good stock.
4. Concerned when centenarian K absent from midweek service, but learnt he was having cataracts sorted. Great news. He's said before that it slows him down with his crossword. We sang St Patrick's Breastplate, which brings & to tears and keeps perfect company with the very best of all music.
5. Lovely to wear fresh clean white lawn nightie, softly blown dry in very little time, while new orchid buds are nearly in bloom.
