Looking good Admiral
1) after a very good night's sleep breakfast then picked up for the University
2) lovely day, nice lunch (with side salad) then back at hotel by 3:30 - checked the pool - still in sunshine, so managed a couple of hours emails and my 4pm
3) pool finally in the shade - did another 64 lengths - so what can you tell from that? and won respect from the group of Italian school teenagers staying there - they were talking about fighting and one said they should set up a fight club 'first rule of fight club' to which i replied, now on sun lounger in the shade reading my book -noone talks about fight club 😎
4) walked to Manoel Island and had a delicious burger while sitting on a big lump of concrete looking out to sea
5) getting dark, walked back to hotel, phoned ex to chat to on the way and continued for some time when i was back in my hotel - milk still good - wet flannel works a treat!MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

That is fine than!I work from home so my cat can be fed on demand!8 -
Youngest thinks I am deranged for not having a desk fan. Hugging him, he is notably cooler than I, so he may have a point.topsyturphy - a turkey bolognese bake? Excellent, shall reassure Youngest. (What do you call a cottage pie with made with turkey mince, anway?) You run? not in the heat, phew. "plans with mum to visit Aunt & Uncle in France" - there's a christmas shopping opportunity? Aw pup paddling.Suffolksue - smooth recovery wishes for you also!DundeeDoll - awed at the family logistics but how else to get to Malta with peace of mind? Much impressed with ms deployment of a wet flannel. Diffraction spike link shared with other Webbwatchers, thank you! Brava for upholding the fine reputation of the British abroad & if that can't appear as an example for running a university, life is most unfair.Happycas - delighted all the appointments were done before the heat struck!LaineyT - a joint marathon hedge cut followed by a cold beer - sounds wonderful. A breeze, and small dog chasing moths... A local Sky engineer - congratulations! Love a video reassurance of happy horses.Admiral - I'm remembering to drink. The lads will tell you my tea is "so weak it is just mucky water". Splendid hat. As a family, we're fans of James May - we share some of his priorities (tea, the right tools, engineering).Nargleblast - thankyou for being nice to a bumblebee.mhagster - reading, gripped by sockswallowing saga... No appetite?! <shock> Home & tail wagging Phew but oh gosh Vet BillFrith - canny to shop Before the heat. Right with DundeeDoll, couldn't go to a nicer person. Love the blue of the house & the orange & yellow of nasturtiums! Glad that family were able to diagnose & figure patch for car. I'm mildly amused at Just How Much paperwork the legal beagles want. Every confidence you can screen Elvis with aplomb.PaulieHerts - stunning photos, & Cluedo in the shade.Purple kitten - "Had to hoover to paint" - yes, but once you start...ampersand - I shall not covet a breeze. Youngest asks what is a leveret de famille (and is told a young hare still with its family but may go off to Uni at almost any time)VJsmum - congratulations on getting whole family over just in case. Happy belated birthday DD & yum homemade chocolate brownies!OS Pleasures recentlyWe have a small disco ball - when the sun is at the right angle & shining the room turns freckled with light.Middleson back from “down south where it was 30!” (collecting an industrial drink machine to disassemble & make something else from) is swigging iced cola with approval whilst planning a long shower. [Has left a pile of useful pieces on the kitchen floor. Youngest, stepping over these, opines brother is “building himself a girlfriend”. ]{Since relocated into a laundry basket in the front hall with another hefty lump of engineering at the foot of his bed. His “place for everything” lecture is on hiatus.}I tapped my phone to collect email, watched as it announced one message & kept looking & all it was, was an advert for Viking Online with freebie Haribo starmix…. All that “what can it be?” for starmix…. Pleasure is in the laughter!Linen on the line & I feel very short heaving it into place & glad I’d put pegs on the line first, ready to catch. Now wondering where will duvet cover & pillowcases go but it’s a rotary line - there’s a lot of possible length really. I am such a newbie with large areas of linen - all the shifts and so forth were made from linen woven on narrower looms. [If this is cooler, I’m relieved & still warmer than I like.]Ma-in-law recognised us, despite new hospital & very drowsy.Youngest helped me make the bed. Hospital corners are a whole new idea to one raised on “fitted” sheets! Tying the duvet in is a whole new thing to us both & I think genius, it all lies flatter & makes neatly easier. I slept like a log. There’s nothing like being nagged by your son to chivvy you B&Q to find a bit to repair the loo flush. The lovely bloke there identified exactly what I needed from a phonesnap (& steered me to eBay), but also pointed out the right bits to replace All the Internals if I was so minded.Teasing Middleson by text that I wish he’d leave a bit of water in the kettle for the next thirsty soul.More laundry pegged & then the little wild strawberries, well, all the ones my knees & reach permitted, picked & tucked into the freezer awaiting more of their siblings. I doubt there’ll be enough to make jam, but a few tiny flavour bombs are a joy. Meanwhile raspberry, jostaberry & blackcurrants all heading into freezer. Individual jellies this year I hope, so long as I keep picking!Found a fascinating article on how hard it is to correct the mistaken death entry in France. (No one ever coded an undo button, so the cascade is merciless, automated & hard work to correct.)Howling with laughter here - youngest just helped me pin the hems for work trous. Clearly one leg is a good 2" longer than the other! Poor lamb, always as tall, never had to think about trouser leg length, let alone help mother hem.Oxford bus drivers told to drink plenty of water, stop & take rests as needed, & if they feel sick to go home. That seems thorough & reasonable. Pleasure is allowing myself the same latitude now there are guidelines.Just figured how to pick & set key photo from iPhone live photos - yesterday crooning over a bumblebee now better illustrated!Youngest has revealed an ear for swing & loves “Mack the knife” (as do I, but that it was written at short notice for Weill’s threepenny opera by Bertolt Brecht had completely escaped me. I learn so much from my sons!) He’s not heard Ella in Berlin though, so fair trade.“A quiche should be wrinkly - this one’s been Botox’ed” Pretty sure the quality control team would notice botulism…The heat is not a pleasure. Near watching the lemon seedlings grow is.“Weather sponsored by Qatar airways” - chaps, you can keep it… Just hope my heat loving colleagues are enjoying this.Health strength love & courage to all as have need along with long cool drinks, ice, fans & whatever helps. Says she, onto her fourth pint of tea.11

Oooft at following a DFV epistle 😆
Well slightly less up and downs last night but woke up very sore as the sofa cushions on the floor aren’t the greatest! Dog more mobile this morning and appetite back. But just too hot for all of us. And certainly for him.So a day at home mostly. No work. Hurrah! Ended up having a late morning snooze…it’s like having a Newborn…sleep when they sleep 😆
Friend came round to see both dog and I. Nice to catch up.
sorted out piles of stuff! Stuff that I’d brought round here to go to various different peoples. Update on declutter thread.Went round to mums in the last hour whilst DD2 here to watch doggy. Picked some nice roses and buddleia. It is so blooming hot! And I know not as hot as down south but very hot by Scottish standards.Quick chat to son.And now going to have a cool shower!8 -
It is now 31.5 degrees in my room, with the fan running... the fires in and around London look horrendous. The hills by bigger son's work burned yesterday and today a van hit the power lines outside my niece's school (lower than normal due to the heat) and that started a fire as well.
Pleasures for today (Tuesday)
1) Bigger son sent a rare message. They carried on at work yesterday but he jumped in the pool 5 times during the day!
2) Did very little all day, apart from a bit of cooking. Rushed about just now washing up, putting the washing machine on, watering the tomatoes etc and am baking hot now.
3) Tried to renew mum and dad's house insurance for them but it got very awkward when the phone number needed to confirm a payment for mum's bank card was an old phone of hers... We didn't manage it in the end! Their Quidco account had some cashback from their last car insurance so I sent that to their account.
4) Made halloumi, pepper and tomato kebabs for tea.
5) Waiting for a Sainsburys order now.9 -
We love Ella DFV including her live interpretation of Mack the Knife. For today,
Not much sleep as stupidly hot night so up and watering the pots at 5am, my tomatoes had withered badly in the heat of yesterday.
Most of the day spent trying to keep cool, Capt S went to his office as it has air con and the study was stifling, small dog and I sat in the dark with fans on.
Prawn salad for lunch.
Watched an old B&W film with Bette Davis in, fabulous acting and the women were all so glamorous although everyone seemed to smoke non stop, even the doctors!
Now sat outside in the relative cool of a 29 degree dusk, dark clouds are threatening but just a miserly few spots so far.8 -
good to hear haggis on the mend mhags
my introduction to Weill / Brecht was Bowie covering the Alabama Song dfv
I feel quite spoilt in Malta - i have very good air con
1) woke early, breakfasted and ready for my pick-up ready for first meeting at 8:45
2) workshop went very well - how i have missed f2f workshops
3) then they took me out for very nice lunch by the marina - i had swordfish followed by trifle
4) back at the hotel slept for 2 hours, still full so forewent my swim and went back to explore a bit more of Manoel Island
5) for my mse supper i bought a brown roll, some swiss cheese and a very nice water melon lolly. i ate the lolly as i walked round the island and saved the roll and cheese till i got back to the hotel
i have now planned my day off tomorrow, listened to the archers and of course caught up on all your lovely newsMrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

We're all doing it, so:
1.
& spent 10 hrs under ancient tree, sorting 8 large bags of clothing for our Ukrainians - Clothing Hub tmrw again. Then Meriva wouldn't start.... again. Dkw, eventually back.
2. Last baking just finished for tmrw. 3 loaf cakes: marmalade, choc. cinnamon and courgette, plus honey bubble slice.
3. Yes, the slow cooker is on too.....another rtc+use-ups. Extremely yum, as these cobbled togethers usually are.😋😁
4. Listening to Rory Stewart, R4 just now, on 'argument' - to &'s surprise, interesting and intriguing. Ooh, & must find some way to see Murder in Provence. Yes, please!
5. To and fro's with Spain from early a.m - concern, especially as they were visiting someone to quote for re-upholstery/soft furnishing this arvo. No news yet, but it is quiz night, which also means & should be there.😃 If only.....

Pleasures for today
1. The coolness in the shops today.
2. Coffee in store in lovely air conditioning.
3. Delivery of 2 small fans
4.Delights of salad for tea.
5. New dog walker came for meet and greet - pup going for a trial on Sunday morning.9 -
Good morning - more sun!
Mhagster - so glad doggy is home and on the mend.
Sunday
Set off really early and were at the coast by 9 am, missing the traffic and the heat
Had a lazy settling in day with strolls rather than walks
Mon/Tues
It's been beautifully sunny with a gentle breeze to make it pleasant.
Managed to almost finish painting the fence around the decking. It's only taken a year! Between DH ops/ covid/too cold / too wet etc. it's turned into a major task. Just the gate to do but now it really is too hot as that part is always in the sun.
Renewed our annual membership of local stately home. The grounds alone are worth it, especially at the moment as there are lots of mature shady trees.
Managed some proper walking, but with lots of rehydration stops!
Happy Wednesday everyone. I do hope the weather is more bearable for everyone today.
