5 OS pleasures in your day today - part 3

Good afternoon
Paulie. - condolences and hugs x
Admiral - I love chocolate concrete. Used to be my favourite lunch when I was still working.
Ampersand - not me who commented on Djokovic ( sp?). Everything I know about tennis could be written on the back of a postage stamp - although I did have a bit of a thing for Tom Okker many moons ago.
D Doll - glad you're back and busy as ever.
Wild rose - bet you look like Bathsheba Everdene scything your meadow!
Supermarket this morning. Definite creeping up of prices! Will have to be more alert I think.
Dentist this afternoon. Not been since pre-covid. Think they'd forgotten me! Anyway, the pleasure is nothing serious wrong! Two ancient fillings to replace but not urgent.
Prawn stir fry for tea. And a vanilla slice!
Happy teatime everyone

DD glad you’re alright and just busy 😊
Woken by a naughty doggy at 2am…4 ( yes 4) socks vomited outside…if there is any pleasure in this it was outside and my solar lights looked pretty 😆
Up early for work. Was alright ( second job) but was happy to be out sharp today.Home. Hello doggy. C’mon we’re going to granny’s, off we went in the rain and did a bit in garden and a bit inside. Update on declutter thread.Home…and we don’t have to go to supermarket as all the books ( there were hundreds) have been donated.Had a snooze.Had a potter around garden.Hoovered upstairs and downstairs. Dog is in moult just now which is just hairy hairy! Just as well I love him!Hung a washing out late as the sun never appeared until after 4pm…however I’ve stripped my bed and still need to make it.10 -
Wildrose
And now you must chose. Alan Bates, Terence Stamp or Peter Finch? What a choice 😀8 -
Alan Bates. Terence Stamp is dashing and handsome but I've met his type before. Peter Finch wojld crush the life out of a wife, sadly. But when I sat at the fireside with Gabriel, I'd look up and there he'd be and he'd look up and there I'd be.8

Far From the Madding Crowd was one of our books for English Literature GCSE. 30 years on, I can still remember a few quotations. The nominative determinism of the character names was good - Gabriel Oak being not only an angel but a dependable and solid tree. Troy being Frank (which he wasn't!) and a Trojan Horse. And Boldwood, who was so boring that we realised at the end of the book that none of us knew his first name!
Pleasures for today (Tuesday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) House tidy! Got quite a bit done.
3) Bigger son appeared after lunch so we went out for a cup of tea. His remaining big front tooth repair has snapped off (it was only cobbled together anyway, as 4mm was left after his big cycling accident). The other one is missing completely, as his bridge has fallen out.
4) Smaller son had a very exciting evening. He went to watch his football team play in floody city and they won 5-0. He had a lift in his friend's car!
5) Got loads done while smaller son was out. Set up the new Roku thingy on the television (for internet TV). That went so smoothly I thought I would programme my phone to be a remote control. That took quite a while. Then I thought I would program Alexa so I could control the TV using voice commands. I gave up after an hour!
Also made my tea and did a massive pile of ironing. Put a top on Ebay as well.
6) Picked smaller son up at 10pm and he had a McDonalds.
7) Got home again and bigger son was here. He hasn't stayed overnight for over a month so I've just made his bed and got black pudding and sausages out of the freezer for a cooked breakfast.
8) Smaller son has agreed to go to college tomorrow to say goodbye. I haven't managed to get him to write the thank you cards yet.11 -
For yesterday, another scorcher
Breakfast and then over to the yard to see pony while it was still relatively cool.
We went for a little walk in hand around the fields and she got to have a good forage amongst the grasses etc, her paddock is very spare and the yard is having to put hay out to supplement the grazing.
I also hid a couple of carrots in the net hung up in her stable, ready for her to find when she came in at night.
A mama blackbird having a cooling bath.Rest of the day was spent pottering around and trying not to overheat, small dog had the best idea of laying on the quarry tiles in the porch, sensible girl.10 -
beetroot walnut and feta salad sounds lish wildrose hooray for your post not getting lost ampers
for yesterday
1) did indeed start day by adding myself to DrM's coffee table and presenting him with card and present, also kiss on the cheek for making it to 60
2) then worked in cathedral office as not time to dash back for 10am online meeting
3) dd2 got offered a full-time job hooray unfortunately in Perth and public transport in Scotland is totally rubbish so she'll have to drive but well done her
4) went to pub to celebrate DrM's birthday with mates - he was late of course 🤣
5) as we walked home he waxed lyrical about the card - it was a very fine card and clearly hit the spotMrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

LaineyT - I was all set to crack a bottle if, and sat there clutching my tea grimly. A frittata <pencils onto list of dishes to coach sons in> Mushrooms on toast are enough to give a reliable base for Pimms? No reason needed for chocolate brownies! Just wow, and have you this lady's address for another 4 years?! In this heat just getting two loads of laundry done is admirable. Visiting butterflies, aw. A small siesta - sounds like the Mediterranean way of life could be fun! A hidden carrot - there's a loving treat!Admiral - smoked haddock sounds glorious - I';m trying to figure how to ease the lads onto Other Fish than Battered Or Fingers... I really should find a gym again. My old local has closed. Love Kitty in her vase! A line dried towel is a special pleasure.mhagster - a sniffy doggy walk is a lovesome thing. Two jobs, clearing your mum's house & 2 of the 3 offspring away 1 in another county, 1 in another country. From my puddle, I salute you! Triumph over the "room of doom"! Is it possible the frazzled alongside your delicious cooking may have boosted the tips? Love "Get your duck it’s bedtime!". Empathise with frustration at line drying & bedtime conundrum. A proper nap: congratulations!Frith - I love the idea of the radio on & folk gathered round as though war had been declared. Hugely glad kneecap has decided to return to where it did ought to be. "I look French" - splendid! Yikes, wasps. Blinking hot. Well done son! Well done you setting up Roku!Happycas - fish fingers are a special pleasure. Oiling wood is hugely rewarding & (if you pick a nice oil), good for the skin too. Smitten with virgin Pimms - brilliant idea! Dentist & nothing wrong a definite pleasure.VJsmum - rousing hurrahs at DD's success & pay rise As Well! Always fun to find a 'proper English country pub'.ampersand - acoustics "windblown" - brilliant! Live polo, coo! Then rtc escargots - gosh I miss the emporium - there were some Amazing rtc thigs, & the Advent sales got me something of a reputation.. May your bank comms system deliver the dinero to the right account. Whitecurrants & a glorious bit of wood carving.Purple kitten - "a pleasure when I have finished" recognise that T shirt - hurrah the sofas!topsyturphy - live music at reasonable money - hugely impressed! The ye-gods-o'clock start & finish times do help avoid stop-start traffic. Car air-con is a massive treat!PaulieHerts - so sorry to hear Father-in-Law has died. You'll just have to enioy the cherries for him.Nargleblast - sounds a Wonderful family time!DundeeDoll - golly! to have DS handy for after-celidh canny planning. Well done DD2 & all very best with the driving.Wildrose - a gifted cook is a joy, but a talent with a sickle Lasts.OS pleasures recentlyScout leaders photos to be updated. Scout chat increasingly “will be running a little late” (with one openly “as I’m going to Starbucks”…)!Ma-in-law easier to chat to as lad & I disagreed over a nice gardening magazine. What I saw had lots of glorious colour photos, inviting the imagination to stroll in for a game of croquet, afternoon tea in the rose garden & generally inspecting the dahlias for vigour. What he saw was an article on soil & a spade - we did not buy it…Unexpected grace from HMRC - Himself had paid no tax in the last tax year & so no declaration or refund is due. I could sing, I am so relieved!Mindful of wisdom read on this thread, I phoned the pension people: who were patient & kind & abjured me to stay away from their website & just get the two forms emailed to me in! [Ye gods, MonsterPrinter is Slow]“We are to stay in & wait for your brother’s ship to come in” - the new (‘sleeker’) kayak is to be delivered whilst it’s proud owner sleeps, as he’s on nights. I’ve already called it a yacht by accident once…Meters read & numbers entered. Peace of mind & the young tall took the elec meter photo reading as he didn’t want me “climbing on the furniture”! Then did the gas before I could ask. I am very lucky.Ma-in-law staying in big hospital til strong enough to benefit from rehab. She’s completely unfussed as unaware, very restful!Pension forms (1st wave) completed & posted. All digital material (ID, certificates) emailed. As we drive, we have the radio on. “rock the Kasbah” plays & son navigating turns it down to ask who is to lock the taskbar?Signet ring repaired, resized & glorious, looking just as it must have done when dad-in-law bought it, handsome back in 1956. Collected and on my hand til youngest turns 21, as while sized to fit him, also fits me. A great comfort to have family close.Youngest’s timing thrown by night shift working brother serving cottage pie at 10.30 pm. Delicious!Whiplash news, Boris and Tennis.. pleasure in the amusement at the juxtaposition.Son watching how the Chesterfield sofa is made traditionally and muttering “it’s so old-fashioned” - that is sort of the point. So funny hearing his condemnation of the blue version seen “it ought to be red, or green!” - and I think a deep comfortable brown but then I am a devout believer in being able to conceal the evidence.Awww brother has given brother a new phone & will pay his contract for a year. To see these two working together supporting each other is heartwarming.“Remind me later & I’ll tell you no then” Middleson does not want to buy groceries…The irony, sis can get her Labrador CT scanned faster than we can get our parents CT scanned but then the NHS is both utterly wonderful and free.It is a joy to watch the young figure out the new kayak & then again figure how to fold it all away again! And no, there will not be family kayak trips “it’s My thing” & “anyway you’re too heavy, mum”. Not sure if that’s motivational or guile….Oops! Someone’s breakfast croissant was “caramelised” this morning - I think it was carbonised in places but he ate it all anyway. And took the mick out of his attention span…Found my boots! New boots now (hurrah) optional.Acquired scarves & oven dishes in charity shops, that mum can wear “fat face” (?!) & youngest can learn the gentil art of batch cooking….Have been pondering & researching & reading reviews & pondering harder & prime day has let me buy linen for my bed at less-than-exorbitant prices. Saw this on care of linen “The easiest and most energy efficient way to dry your sheets is to hang on a line outdoors, on the warmer, sunnier days. If you are in the UK, be sure to make the best use of this two week opportunity.“ - still chortling hours later. [They’ve arrived! Do I wash them first or put them straight on the bed? Wash, I think, and line dry.]Cook in training (not being hungry) hasn’t started cooking at all, let alone batch cooking - his expression when he realised was so comical! [served, delicious, at 16:55 and sibling dishes in the fridge]The lemon seedlings are powering along in the heat & light. The littler one has really taken to unfurling leaves and now has 7 active where previously there were two!I added the wrong woman as a bride & one of her descendants advised she’d married & died in America. So I sent thanks & deleted 3 generations & all the siblings from that tree. Pleasure is I’m pretty sure what I have is correct, not just computer accumulated guesses. On that tree…Sister, stressed over computer issues & our father, nearly fell off her chair when I calmly suggested removing the fuse from the plug. [Wonderful bounce & scuffle as she dropped the handset.] Doesn’t harm the technology but does stop it starting. The appalled horror calming into skittish contemplation was a joy...Aww. DWP does not usually get a good press but not only did they hand me clarity, they went a step further “Anything else I can help you with?” “Socks & underpants.” The lovely bloke on the phone was smitten - (he gets a wide range of questions & answers) but they are so personal, what do you do with them? If I ever call him again, he’d like to know the answer.Yikes! Thudding on the stairs so I yelled (nothing, but the noise cancelling headphones were a massive parental mistake), then gallumphed down two flights myself to find son absolutely fine & only on interrogation admitting he’d slipped on the stairs but stayed upright. “Surfing!” A few hugs later left him to the washing up as I pegged. The relief is such a pleasure! The hugs & the pegging too.Had not a clue what sort of bin it was day, checked neighbours’ (recycling, both full) & tugged ours out in the hope a lorry will be along. [It did.]Saw the dentist for the first time since covid, & then the hygienist who serenely excavated my teeth from the mess. Blimey my tongue can feel the difference! Other than that, nothing needed doing, phew.Health, strength, love & courage to all as have need. Sunhats, parasols & Very Clear Communications as temperatures climb - please, keep drinking.10
