Sorry to hear about your FiL, Paulie. But dying at home with family is the best way to go I think.8
-
Paulie so sorry for your loss.
Pleasures recently
1. saw my favourite nephew (i have another who runs him a close second but this one comes from away!), over from Oz. Made a special trip to see us. Took him to a 'proper English country pub'
2. DD got the job she went for! Huge pleasure - it also includes a massive pay rise
3. a weekend in Oxford trying to help sister in law sort her house. Lots of cleaning, decluttering, cat hair and exasperation.
4. But we did have some lovely food including a chicken biryani cooked by a south asian neighbour
5. and delicious coffee from the coffee shop at the local pub after our doggy walks.
night all - i'll be in bed soon cos i'm shattered!I wanna be in the room where it happens10 -
Condolences Paulie
Bedtime Hurrah!Blooming dog woke me before the alarm did this morning. And I was still sleeping ( for a change!)Once I was properly up we went a nice walk. Almost just us and lots of birds. Two other doggy walkers out but we kept our distance ( my doggy not fond of others) and in the main it was just us.Home and watered garden then went to work.Home for a bit mid morning! Had fried egg on toast!Back to work and kept going all day. Not madly busy but steady ( how I like it) good company. And home. Hello home and hello doggy.Briefly round to mums. Walked which was a nice change as I’m always in the car these days as I’m usually heading to the tip or have a carload to bring back. Met DD2 round there as I needed her help as I’d to get something out a high cupboard. Something! 😆 a whole load of somethings! Holy moly!Cut some long buddleia stems. Because I can!And home and cut the grass as the back garden grass grows twice as quick as the front garden. We are forecast heavy rain tonight and for rest of week so even though I was knacked I cut the grass then did a bit of weeding and pruning which I enjoy. And then sorted out my flowers in vases. And then said to dog. Get your duck it’s bedtime! Also decent tips at work , all in the jam jar!And second job starts again tomorrow. Week two. I can do this!9 -
Sorry to hear about your father in law, PaulieHerts.
Pleasures for today (Monday)
SO HOT! 27⁰ in my room now.
1) Bit of a lie in.
2) Tidied up, washing done and dried on the line
3) My "new" top came from eBay and I really like it.
4) Had some onions to use up so made 2 containers of tomato sauce for the freezer. Then made pizza dough and a couple of pizzas. Boiling!
5) The wasp man arrived and did his thing. We can open the windows now.
6) Lost 3lbs. Tonight was the first time on the BSD that I've felt a bit washed out. Had a few crisps and some trifle and felt better. 34 lbs lost now.
7) Went to the allotment to pick the strawberries and someone (or a bird) has taken them all. Luckily had a few raspberries on the canes that popped up in my garden and a few strawberries from those growing in a pot. Had them with yoghurt for my breakfast.
8) Smaller son is going to the football tomorrow with two friends. Hoorah!11 -
oops been a while, I'm good mhags just as you say busy - remind me NEVER to do 2 conferences back to back again!
sorry to read your news paulie my neighbour died saturday at home - she's been ill a long time but always sad
so having read all your pleasures and other life news here's a very brief overview since graduation
1) dean was back to read the names for the returners so i could just sit and enjoy
2) conference down in Newcastle - did a workshop with 2 colleagues - lovely to work with, next day a paper with one of them, then they went home and i stayed for the last day
3) whizzed up to Aberdeen for conference #2 - PhD student doing a workshop. got there in time for the conference dinner ceilidh - enjoyed hugely and was good to dance after the long train journey
4) ds's flat right opposite where the ceilidh was - he could see me from his window as I made my way over - then we chatted for nearly 2 hours so bit of a late night!
5) back home Friday, went to bed for 2 hours rather than go to the pub despite knowing dr m would be there - clearly very tired! then up for friend's bat walk at the botanics - huge fun
6) Saturday up early, hair cut, then went had a coffee with dr mI do believe he and mr g missed me on Wednesday for the footie - I watched it in my hotel room
7) Sunday pilgrimage from cathedral to Invergowrie, visiting old church ruin en route then refreshments at our destination then evening prayer - lovely (though walk was hot!)
8) good day at work, also managed to get dismantled bed (destined for tip as broken) down the stairs and mum and dd2 have disposed of it hooray. oh and watched England game.
Dr M's 60th tomorrow - drinks at 8 but hoping to catch him earlier as I have a card and present. I love birthdays

Paulie - yes, these losses hit home, despite knowledge and circumstances.
& is helping with another since Saturday...some difficult circumstances.
Yes, you were certainly right re: djokovic trying on a charm offensive cloak.....
Frith - son and 2 friends to footie will be amazing. 🤞
Vjm - congrats to your dd!

It'll be tomorrow by the time & hits Send for these 5, so - into the starting stalls.....
1. Found £1, carpark again.🙂
2. Sent my inept Open Studios studio pottery film, done for friends in Spain, to a more local LP friend, who can realistically go. Scientist and full Professor, she is also a superb artist, craftsperson and brilliant Beaux Arts all-rounder, despite auto-immunity flares and arthritis. Wowed by what she saw, so they will go. A large number of artists are having to cancel, apparently - last minute covid positives.🥺
3. 4½ more hours at Bank again. This NZ thing is an ongoing nightmare, but & cannot let several £000 vanish into a black hole after 35years. &'s Town of Horse Bank team are being brilliant, not helped by all their comms+systems being down. Visit no.8 tomorrow.....no, make that later today.
4. A heads-up to PK and anyone else who can.... https://www.facebook.com/188310216642/posts/pfbid02naWxBxU6zWmvCYmcbCsP59CRY5wCSG5GufDyDbyhqtLMvUjHUXRYv9LWm9X1JyrBl/
Love Lullingstone, love Tom.
5. A late hour's watering finished in pitch dark tonight, with a bat or 3, several fabulous hawk moths AND.....an owl! Quick swoop flight about 5 metres off, just a little above head height! An amazing proximity 1st chez &squat.

For yesterday,
6am dog walk and pots then watered, it’s going to be a scorcher.
Into horsey town for food shop, saw young pal riding out, she recognised my car and called my name, she started off at our yard as Saturday girl and is now working for one of the big trainers, she looked really happy.
Big chicken salad for lunch.
Apparently we should all be embracing the Mediterranean way of life so started by having a small siesta.
No appetite for anything but fruit & cheese, hit the low 30’s in the afternoon.
Enjoyed the footie, even more so the breeze that got up during the evening!7 -

I haven't been on this thread for a week or so, life got a bit much. So, yesterday:
Sat out in my seating area in the morning watching butterflies and hoverflies visiting the flowers.
Lovely beetroot, feta & walnut salad for lunch, made by DS3 who is a gifted cook. I thought I was a good cook until he tried his hand in the kitchen. Decided I'm a better than average cook, largely from long experience & good cookery lessons at school. DS3 though is on a whole different level, so good at balancing flavours and textures etc. All self-taught too.
Managed to get a good amount of decluttering done in the cooler evening, I'm refurbing my old brick shed and just emptying out the accumulation of family belongings has taken longer than I'm prepared to admit. V satisfying though.
Took my sickle out to the hay meadow (formerly a garden) and mowed a decent sized area of the chest high grasses. Thought it was waist high until I got right into it. I was joined by a juvenile blackbird after a while, foraging in the mown area, totally at ease in my presence.
Lovely chats with various of my children.

That's a lovely post, Wildrose.🌹🙂
Just sitting for a mo, outside working, garden biz all sorts, with water. Repotting an azalea with specially bought ericaceous compost - at last. Biggest job is emptying and overturning heavy previous one. Done, but mass-attacked by biting ants and my word! How they bite! Up and down both arms, down into gardening gloves.
Very wise is Ms K HP, Admiral.🐈⬛
1. As per Admiral, all now flapping gently on line, towel included, at which point, 1st day lily seen.
2. Combining v.early out back. Pic taken, plus final strip-pick of more white currants, missed last week. Another handful or 2 in freezer.
3. Love this fellow from last week. So cleverly done and inspired from that knotty bit of wood. He's guarding the many, many, many, way too many black cherry tomato seedlings.😁 Yew-coloured, but don't know for sure.
4. So much birdsong, as right now, behind and above me.
5. Total recommend. Such a brilliant Dead Ringers, reheard this morning, right from the Phwoarrr!!! intro. Give yourselves a treat and listen, laughter being best medicine et al.😁Episode 4
Episode 4 of 6Condemnations, recriminations and resignations. Incisive analysis of the week’s chaotic events in Westminster, plus some jokes about Andrew Neil’s hair.
