Admiral- OH is going to watch his team on Friday against Orient, doesn’t hold out any hope, but he will continue to support his birth place 😊
After feeling grotty with a horrible cold that just won’t go away, we decided we would make the effort and get to the coast yesterday! It did the trick, felt so much better for seeing the sea and walking in the sun ☀️. It was very cold and windy in the shade on top of the Naze so we walked beside the beach and it was more sheltered and quite pleasant in the sun.
We had our usual bacon roll at the tower and later after our walk and sit down by the beach, fish and chips from our favourite takeaway by the beach huts, delicious 😋.
Popped in when we got there to see a friend who has moved down there, and she is loving it! Beach walks with her rescue dog and mostly working from home and a brand new house, quite envious.
Despite the fresh air and exercise, I didn’t sleep that well but I am enjoying the beautiful early morning skies and sunrises since my curtain track collapsed under the weight of my new curtains 🤣🤣
Have a super Sunday everyone.12 -
Morning all. Beautiful day here - I really should go out in it!
Pleasures for Thursday
1. finished up the walls and the house cleaning in time for the 1.30 train (I try to avoid the next one, 3.30, due to copious numbers of schoolchildren)
2. read my book on the train (R.F. Delderfield "the Avenue" - a different time yet many things curiously the same).
3. OH is pretty much better from his COVID. he's not really suffered at all (for which i'm grateful)
4. an alcohol free day - first one for a week!
5. my log burner
Friday
1. An early walk to DD's house to wait in for her new headboard to be delivered - thankfully it arrived promptly cos her house is flipping cold and i didn't want to put her heating on.
2, watched the latest 'This Is Us' while i waited
3. did the Aldi shop - OH came and picked me up
4. out for lunch and a catch up with friends.
5. steak for tea - again!
And yesterday
1. early train to London, with yummy breakfast
2. DD and I went to the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition at the Natural History Museum, then went to see the dinosaurs (that was first typed as 'Dinosaurus' - which also looks and sounds right 🤣)
3. Japanese restaurant for lunch - not a chain and full of East Asians so that has to be a good sign
4. Phantom of the Opera - haven't seen it in a few years, enjoyed it. Probably don't ever need to see it again! (this was DD's birthday outing from last July so was her choice).
5. home! fire! cup of tea!
No plans for today - that will be pleasures 1 - 5 😁 enjoy your days all.I wanna be in the room where it happens10 -
Limps back. RL loco & ye gods education, with bonus politics. Technically I am in health, I'm just crackered!
Admiral - I would try to wrestle you for that mug of tee but you'd win. Is the expensive pizza worth the extra pennies? How can they downgrade you? [Ah, fibre.] Did you enjoy jury service? Unwired to mesh - techie appreciative hum
Villagelife - what a wonderful boyfriend's mum you are - share the fun of rugby, send us off with cobnuts, eggs and wild garlic! Rousing hurrahs finding petrol & filling up.
VJsmum - a decorating marathon, ye gods. Awed. Best wishes for full & swift recovery to OH! Securely in another country - now that I call shrewd planning. Motivates recovery to join you! Plastering "if it sticks" - oh gosh yes. Smooth flat 90 degree walls are Boring anyway. Seeing patterns in the plaster is fun. OH pretty much better hurrah, didn't put on DD's heating, enjoyed Dinosaur(us) & no Plans - bliss!
mhagster - Wee, dinner, cuddle - y'know that sounds wonderful? That's a Lot of rain. Currently we're alternating between frost & sunlight, so I have laundry pegged & am hoping it comes in dry, not rigid... We've decluttering to do too. Love the RTC shrubs tucked into real ground where they will be appreciated & can grow. RTC lavender definitely the best. Love sunrise with dog as kneecosy!.
DundeeDoll - you want to watch these long days, they can get accidentally Bad habit forming..So glad you have the boys, DD2 & colleagues who will return! And Malta on the horizon - gosh. Excellent coaxing of phd, "writing fabulous stuff" - well done you! Tonic water with frozen fruit sounds glorious.
Frith - confined but still canny - hurrah new refurbished phone. I envy you sons who sort phones! Pondering demoulding & all for zoom tours - educational & yet comfortable. Ant killing the new Easter Craft? Ponders bonnet... Huge congratulations on glass lampshades & delivery whole. Hadn't realised Tom Jones impersonations could be part of COVID recovery but possibly better than coughing? Hurrah being able to get back to football.
Purple kitten - just expanded your icon & crooned, some decorations should be all year round toys. Best wishes to you & to DH - hoping he's better now
lovefullshelves - tomato plants in the toilet & why not?!
Happycas - Your friend is lucky to be able to wrestle with the choice, before Fate Imposes. Right with you on Gorilla Glue as a skin treatment to avoid. Absolutely indulge in the blossom! I do love pegging stuff out on the line. It gives me a hazy connection with the womenfolk around me & before me, satisfying.
LaineyT - when your body lotion of choice in on offer, it would be rude not to! Tea, restorative of champions. Spelt & pumpkin seed Yum! "Last of the diesel" but the farrier came. Awww isn't it lovely to be able to reach something for someone?! Yikes, all best with car smell. Tulips have such glorious lines. Turned the tv off to play cards - absolutely.
Broomstick - even the common or garden cold is no fun, Darwin's notebooks back, hurrah! In time for this summers big show, too. You inspire me to try these bean burgers.
Ampersand - Delighted to see you & ye gods, supporting a team with the relevant expertise/ contacts/ languages, let alone all your other activities. Dancing on chair at tutee getting the right school & at miracle babies still progressing. The Donkey - gets me every year. Thank you.
topsyturphy - puppies are wonderful but them learning to sleep is a major pleasure! Couscous my new treat - the boiling water at work is easy, so lo, hot meal with minimal hassle.
PaulieHerts - glorious photos as ever, thank you for the reminder of the colours!
OS Pleasures recently
Pleasure in making a list of everything required to go back into the office. Starts with car keys & mask then laptop! Aye well, they pay me. Just adding ‘extra layer’ to kit as air changes done by open windows…
The copy of the book of common prayer I have includes sacraments & other rites & ceremonies - and some nights they have more comfort than the poetry shelved by it.
Husband still chuckling whenever Russia Today not available....
Day in the office ended. It’s nice to see people, but there were too many of them. Under the “sit with your team” diktat, I couldn’t go & hide on another, less populated, floor. Still, all the fine concentration work will be done more happily tomorrow in my home office. No petrol, no parking, no commute and I can use the headset without the respirator mask.
Ah the Tuesday morning croon! Grandfather proudly sharing the glee.
My parents agreed on a one month resident carer. As the distant daughter, I am hugely relieved! Plus, in one month, mum may be back on her feet & in her right mind & generally better but the carer makes that all more likely! [This is an old pleasure, but both parents have achieved another 80 something birthday.]
The inflation has made itself known - today’s weekly shop was £25 more than I was expecting. Ah well, youngest has stashed the sack of rice in my office (muttering “it’s a stupid place to store food” & I thinking that at least it’s safe from the hazardous hungry young male!)
You know that “should have gone to specsavers” (other opticians are available) adverts? Well, someone (prudently out of range) is gurgling with laughter as I printed off a work chit for a sight test to be used before 4 March 2016…. Ahem. The current chit is also a little out of date but I’m hoping to get a free sight test anyway. [Nope. However, new chit issued, tests done, choices made, pickup tomorrow.]
Sat waiting for the medic and enjoying radio 2 - Ken Bruce is my illicit treat! I only get to hear him on leave or if work has gone off-plan.
Have eaten more raw veggies today than in the previous week and plan to make novice ratatouille. I loaded a basket with green veggies so sprouts & broccoli are on my event horizon - now to figure what to cook!
Aww youngest has birthday & a lateral flow to go see Nan. He is somewhat unimpressed by the sneezings. [Cheered up considerably by the Maltesers. Then even more by the Chinese, even though he chose every bite!]
Mother’s Day shenanigans sorted. Two blueberry plants, one big sack of Ericaceous compost. Big terracotta tubs await, and no one has to worry about a card. Variant Patriot apparently has thorns!
Managed to fill up! An odd pleasure but the relief is considerable.
Preparing (Again) for a day in the office - lists are my allies…
The three of us in greeted each other (having hauled more windows open) with a display of hair! Manager’s ruthlessly tamed but allowed to curl at the ends now easily waist length, colleague (sadly severely) cropped is still mid shoulder blade (longer if you tug a curl) & it was good to see them. [One now away with covid, another with a badly sprained ankle.]
Home! So much Display Screen Equipment checking & paperwork & I am to have a new headset (my chopstick & duct tape repair failed), be issued with a footrest & possibly be measured for a custom chair with lumbar support where my lumbar region is. (Possibly, but my manager is happily making certain we are better cared for in the office than at home. No idea how quickly the money tap will be turned off.)
It is permissible to step off a diet for a single slice of birthday cake? One brother refused to partake entirely, which I find disconcerting. Although I suppose I am the embodiment of an Awful Warning.
Himself, listening to QI, heard the Pope had become inflammable. My imagination has me hiding the matches!
I asked Youngest “how did you know I wanted a cup of tea?!” “Your heart was still beating” ….
Some of our trainees have done all the pre-course reading, and at least one has not. By the end of the course, my co-trainer & I were about ready to contemplate homicide. Once that wore off, a colleague coached me in Forms Over Teams, so we can track pre-course learning scores by name to a spreadsheet, which will make potential chats with managers coolly informed. It also speeds up the pre-course learning check – win-win-win for trainers, trainees & peace of mind.
Sunlight so husband carefully planting out herbs & seeds. Me (with an eye on the met forecast) holding off putting the blueberries where frost might get them. A Mother’s Day present should survive the day!
Love that service of remembrance. Bless the man, he’d put thought into it.
Aww, a primary sponsored walk has just bounced past my window, yellow & blue balloons and so much joy in life it seems hard to remember they’re raising money for children who can’t go out & play in the sunshine…
We have still more herbs to plant. Two websites say firmly subzero next week but himself is clutching the BBC view & saying just tonight. It’s £30-worth I can do without replacing but he might roll a lucky 6 & it stay above zero. Just doubt my Mother’s Day blueberries are going to survive, but fingers crossed patriot strain can cope.
The boat race! So much cheering!
The courtesies around mixed gender toilets can be a challenge. An easily 6’6” gentleman & I queued in amicable silence, he strode in when one emptied & I followed him later (surely it behooves the ladies to get a shift on?!) to ponder how had he managed with the accessible sink - he must have been near-squatting to use it!
Grand National! Aw, just love an underdog win. I can recall office sweepstakes - we didn’t manage one this year.
Right. Health Strength Love & Courage to all as have need, plus every deft way of stomping on the utilities bills without compromising on quality of life & hurrah for all the good things!

PH. Though I wood not lick to sea near rivals go down, but they bee down the Swanny! Understand that at Theatre of Fish, they have a new song. The clean words are ‘Going down with a fiver in the bank, fiver in the bank, fiver in the bank’
Ms. DfV. Wrestle, yes! But you’d be floored! Technical KO Two the Admiral!Bags are packed!
The Albatross, unable too slept due to legs of jelly and two much excitement, packed her things ready for trip. She filled the case! The Admiral, expert at picking, sore ted it, git her things inn, and mine as well inn the same case. Job done.
Bit lost at footie yestday, butt still in play offs. Still not talking too Frith!Did not had the chicken tikka last nite as we is near to a Tour! Had pizza insted. Wobbkeades and cheeses was t@jen. Film was The Misfits very good, don’t belive the critics!
Up and did moor inn the yard. Looking good again. Cut back birch and cherry tree. Kitty was dancing in the yard, and I find the watering can rose! Still got another one now!
Trimmed my beard ready four the tor, clipped me claws as well.looking good as always!
Defrosted the refrigerator, as yous shud every Easter! Used last carrots and cabbage fit the pork chops and stuffing fir dinner. Served with pan gravy!
Now with mes foots up and …
Jen send herKeep Safe!I work from home so my cat can be fed on demand!11 -
Hello. And I’m sure I wrote this a week ago but big worky day number one done! How quickly the work days come around. And for once I didn’t have to be in super early which was a very nice change! Was able to press the snooze button three times and do a big doggy walk! What a treat!Workety work was done and tips were okay. I’ve kind of lapsed off my Lenten giving up! Had half a salad wrap for lunch. And a wee Easter French fancy! Then I came home and remembered I had ice cream!Someone came to collect something I was selling. Hurrah! Someone never bothered their backside the other day , then someone offered me a ridiculously low amount…eh no! And then someone came in a very small car and had to squeeze to get it in! But it’s gone out my house! Was a bit shouty at DD2 when I came in…she’d left a pile of stuff all over the dining table. However she was snoozing so my shouts fell literally on deaf ears under a quilt! Mmmmm what? Mmmm sorry! So I thumped about putting stuff away. Poor doggy just stood there with a sad face. So I felt bad! He then sat and watched me eat ice cream but he always gets the last wee bit. He’s now snuggled up on my feet! And after the freezing cold ice cream it was hot shower and jammies on! With alarm set for early again!11

Pleasures for today (Sunday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Hens OK.
3) Handy man phoned and will call round Monday or Tuesday to see what needs doing.
4) Dropped niece's Easter present off.
5) Went to see bigger son's girlfriend as it is her 21st birthday today. They (and colleagues) were having a party with a campfire. The oldest person there was 23 so I felt incredibly old!
5) Spoke to my school friend.11 -
1. Slept well for me.
2. Finished planting some plants that DH had brought. Didn't manage to do what I had planned to do.
3. Had a bonfire- all small twigs and rise cuttings now gone.
4. Watched rugby. First half definitely not a pleasure but 2nd half improved. It's over 2 legs so who knows what may happen next week at home.
5. Went to DS2 and his girlfriend for a roast. Lovely meal and we all had a good time.

Good morning. Sunny again and no frost this morning.
Ooh. Paulie pix. Beautiful. Thank you
DfV - still in awe of your posts! Excellent news about carer for your parents. Such a worry when you're too far away to pop in regularly. I hope it goes well.
A good weekend
Met DD for lunch. Nearly warm enough to sit outside - but not quite!
New laptop arrived. Old one died, phone is too small and kindle can only manage so much data. It's a Chromebook. DGD has one for school and it seemed user friendly! We've managed to get it up and running, and it's found the printer so all good so far.
Popped round to see DS and family, just back from our caravan. They'd had a good, if somewhat cold, week, and are already planning their next trip.
Managed a bit of garden tidying. Nasty Jack Frost has ruined my magnolias. It happens every year. Beautiful blooms for a few days then a hard frost! Grr!
Pork steaks for tea. Even made apple sauce!
Happy 🌞day everyone

For yesterday,
An early start, cold and frosty.
Usual Sunday morning routine, bacon butties and catching up on all things Ambridge.
Over to the yard to see my equine pal, she was a tad feisty!
Home and beloved had cut the grass so oh that smell walking through the garden gate.
A walk around the fields with small dog, warm in the sunshine and then we all sat under the beech trees, small dog kept her paw on the tennis ball in case anyone had the temerity to take it off her.10
