Pleasures for today (Friday)
1) Not a bad sleep, though smaller son woke me up at 5am as the storm was so bad.
2) The power did not go off. Fences either side collapsed in places, a damson tree snapped off and the silly builder's fences that are a nuisance on our car park are all twisted and mangled on the ground!
3) Watched television and Big Jet UK, a youtube channel where Jerry filmed planes attempting to land at Heathrow in the storm,
4) Scrambled eggs for lunch and a Chinese takeaway for tea.
5) Watched Gogglebox.
6) My school friend phoned.11 -
1. Right now, listening to the glorious John Finnemore's 2018 guest slot on 'My Teenage Diary'. Wondrous and hilarious, as Mr Finnemore ever is. Do listen - you'll definitely laugh.😁

And because we do adore Mr Finnemore, there's also this:

2. Only some fence panels down. Hardly unexpected. Safest indoors today. Outdoors once only to check roof tiles all round. None missing so far.
3. &'s amazing wintersweet outside and hyacinth inside are both still strongly-scented.
4. Various msg'y chats with Spain and NZ, both concerned. Eunice has been very rowdy here, still is. Like seeing her name rewritten as EUnice 🇪🇺❤😍
5. Two priority user warnings received, & being ancient in Earth years - water loss and electricity cuts are expected. Another 'none so far', 🤞.

Lovely lunch out on Thursday, treated by my sis in law for my twin sister’a and my birthday today 😊
Other pre birthday lunch with friend cancelled yesterday due to storm, but rearranged for next week.
OH and I were going to the coast for a walk and fish n chips but now going to the cinema to see Belfast and have a pub meal 🥘 instead.
Lovely moon last night.
Have a good weekend 😊11 -
Power restored after 9 hrs yesterday,2 hrs ahead of estimates
it had got v cold so was in bed
got up and inhaled several cups of tea!
bright and sunny this morning
going to walk round bungalow, hoping the noise I heard at one point wasn’t tiles coming off !Hope everyone has stayed safe11 -
For yesterday,
Changed the bed and made a loaf while the power was still on.
Bit of prep, two big flasks filled, garden pots moved into safety of well and garden solar lamps taken down.
The big mound of earth left by the archaeologists acted as a bit of wind break next to the most exposed side of the cottage but made a mess of my windows. The swing seat was pushed over and rested against the big hedge.
Main road into village was blocked for a while by debris but local farmer soon sorted, number of branches down around the estate so emailed manager.
LO Bolognese on a baked spud for tea, candles ready but power thankfully stayed on.

So far everyone surviving, hurrah, but what a test of neighbours as fences are mended as needed. Abashed to report nothing so exciting it woke me, rain was expected, snowflakes fun for the minutes they lasted.OS PleasuresMiddleson drive me back from dropping off car, despite working nights this week. [A not that expensive given peace of mind repair!]Youngest is trying to reheat an omelette for me. [The Lea & P “topping” is a success!] He tried to excavate the germination trays for me & broke an emotionally loaded keyring (neither of us knew) but that has been carefully repaired (& improved upon), so the lamentation has eased.Managing not to leap from chair yelling hurrahs at Frith’s Dualit charity shop find - these things can be stripped down, scrubbed, new elements bought to replace failed ones and Dualit thus has eco friendly cred as well as making toast.Himself did a simple supper of sausage & mash & gravy & it was glorious. My ankles are still cold but the rest of me is happily warm! The Moon. Big, beautiful, serene: as all about is being blown vigorously.
thenAw, Colleague became a grandfather to a smashing granddaughter this morning - brought photos to the meeting & his lad clearly hasn’t slept but is shattered & awed at being a dad. Much crooning & good wishes! The weekly shop done, and stowed, and the weather can now test the roof. The bins are already laid on the floor so they can’t go over. Phones & devices are charging as the chaps have no intention of being disconnected from their digital world.Yikes, inflation has hit Playmobil figures. An appalling £2.50 a mystery figure now - I think I will focus on charity shop acquisition.Got a text as on-our-list - don't feel that old or fragile but prompt information a boon.Himself's request for a knitted woolly hat of a length ro resemble a nightcap so he can fold it several times over the ears now backed up with skeins of preferred wool. Shall exhume knitting needles and check minimum diameter.
Health strength love courage to all as have need, all expected fence panels where relevant & stay warm?11 -
Not a very nice afternoon here, which has left us unsettled, but I shall press on.
Pleasures for today (Saturday)
1) A good sleep, with less wind noise!
2) Hens OK.
3) Watched an old episode of DIY SOS whilst tidying up.
4) Got out with smaller son to a football match.
5) In bed now with 1 hwb ready for Casualty later. Have had cups of tea and porridge for my evening meal, as thought they would be soothing...
The football started at 3 and was a tense game, in high winds, with the opposition fouling constantly and an appalling referee. He also missed a foul from our side, which should have led to a penalty. I wonder if players realised how weak and unprofessional he was and if that spurred them on to play more aggressively.
We were sitting in the East stand (rather than standing up behind the goal). I was about to say to smaller son that the opposition were targeting our defender constantly, rather than AMS, who normally gets flattened every 30 seconds. Our defender had been Dion Dublin's MOTM in the FA cup against West Ham.
Our man was 5 metres in front of us and jumped to get the ball and an opposition player threw himself through the air into him. A massive foul - missed yet again by the referee. I heard the crack of our player's leg breaking. I said to smaller son, "Turn round now", but he didn't understand why. He thought our player's boot had come off, then realised his boot was still on, just his foot wasn't where it should be. At that point, about two thirds of the people in our stand turned round, particularly when the screaming started. The match continued (!) until at least 5 players from each team had to tell the referee to stop. I was giving a commentary to smaller son (who was concerned, but is very squeamish) and at one point he said, "Oh, its OK, he's laughing now", and I had to explain that it was just the gas and air doing that. It just went on and on as it was too painful for him to get on a stretcher. He was a good 20 minutes on the grass.
The players were eventually sent inside and the match was cancelled. We presume that most refused to restart.11 -
glad to hear DH is progressing well happycas
hoping all those caught up in the storm now have power restored - we got off lightly this time in Dundee (first 3 storms of the year not so lucky)
1) having gone to bed early woke very refreshed 6:50, got up, made breakfast for 3 (me and 2 dogs, dd2 still in the land of nod) and watched the olympics
2) hair cut at 9:10 - was wondering whether to have a coffee in town after or not, decision made for me, the wonderful lewis' '1st' appointment (colour) was an hour late, he asked if i would mind terribly waiting while he put her colour on, not at all, i got to sit longer in the massage hair, the trainee gave me a relaxing head massage and a very nice latte and biscuit while i read my book. bliss.
3) glorious drying day, bed stripped, laundry dried on line, bed remade with same bedding so have nice clean bed to get into very soon
4) lovely walk round botanics with mum and dd2 then treated them to lunch
5) have decluttered some glasses for tomorrow's CS drop, 2 episodes of Death in Paradise with DD2 (we've finally caught up) and now I'm about to go to bed with a cup of mint tea and my book.
After a very stressful and full-on week at work i most definitely today - i could almost feel my batteries rechargingMrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

That poor man Frith, such incompetence from the ref.
For yesterday,
Bit of a lie-in followed by coffee & croissants.
Operation tidy up in the garden, retrieved the bird feeders from under the hedge and refilled, heavy wooden seat put back into place and pots retrieved from well. We also checked the level on oil tank, we don’t have an electronic gizmo just a long stick that we mark.
Walked small dog before the rain came over, the wind was bitter and I bemoaned leaving my hat at home.
Drove over to check on pony, lots of debris on roads and huge puddles to avoid, didn’t see a soul at the yard but my girlie was in her stable so cosseted and left her to her pile of hay. Home to a warm cuppa and listened to the 2nd half of the United game, another 3 points.
Snorkers for tea, had a few games of Yahtzee then started watching the film about Freddie Mercury but too tired to finish so will do that today.

Good morning
Oh Frith , that sounds dreadful. And not very well managed. I hope your son isn't put off going to matches in future.
I'm pleased that so far the worst casualties reported here are fence panels and power cuts. We have been very lucky. Snow to the north of us, gales to the south but we had only strong winds and lots of rain,
And we're not going out anyway as we're in post -op isolation. Thank you for the kind wishes. DH is doing very well and already cutting down the painkillers. We'll be going out for coffee and cake someday soon.
Made soup yesterday from leftover oven veg. Very tasty with air fryer croutons.
Watched Would I Lie to You. Always good for a giggle.
Now onto my third Louise Penny/ Gamache book in a row. I almost never read series in order, not that organised, but these 3 for £5 from The Works just fell into place.
Croissants for brekkie - it's Sunday !
Happy Sunday everyone
