Being at college and not of skool two days a week, as well as camps meant the urge to leave the nest grew a bit. But the college had its advantages! Especially the refectory and the bands. Still remember the Monday after the Saturday night when the place was a bit rocking in December 78! Our course leader came to give us all talk on how wrong it was and we had to write, the whole college a letter to write to the principal on how wrong it was. I can still see him looking round our class of 30 plus eyeing each one, knowing that we had attended said rocking event! He expressed that the course in the year above had 17 people expelled that day and as we were under 18 at the time, then obviously none of us had attended! Good rocking event that was!
Left skool! End of!
Apprenticeship went well until June 79! Then some reason got pulled, but as I wanted to fly the nest, I had already got something lined up my blue sleeve! I am going to join the RAF. Mum knew, but the old man would not want it! No problem, we sorted the entry day until I was 18! He was not happy!
Got through it all, and not like today, fixed aircraft on three O'levels! All was well we came along as boys, but within a couple of years, not any more. Steve came in after a shift during the Falklands Crisis to not call him Skid anymore as his brother had lain on Sir Galahad! GDSM Marks, Welsh Guards! Every year he inches nearer in remembrance to Simon Weston!
The magnets and magnetrons got bigger as I ventured further, but all happened before I was 21!
I went to travel the world, and got the other side of Lincoln!
Film: Apocalypse Now
Song: Beginining of the End (Eddie & the Hot Rods) Oh they were the band at they college!
Radio: Hitchikers guide to the Galaxy!
TV: Simons War.
I work from home so my cat can be fed on demand!10 -
Good afternoon
Lainey - Get well soon. Those lingering coughs are a real nuisance.
Ampersand - glad you managed a whole post! Bread looks delicious. I can smell it from here.
Spent most of the weekend filling in forms. Well, that's what it feels like. Going on holiday requires more form filling than the Lasting Power of Attorney did! But I think it's mostly done.
Wandering past the covid vaccine drop in centre today I saw there was no queue ( Last Friday it was over an hour waiting time.) so I went in and was booster jabbed straight away. That's both of us flu and booster jabbed! Some good organisational skills there. And a big thanks to the volunteer stewards too.
Met DD and partner for breakfast on Sunday. I had vegan chocolate cake! Better for you than bacon, sausage etc 😂
Enjoying Strictly. Rose is my favourite ( I sound like Bruce Forsyth!)
Happy 🌞 day everyone10 -

Pleasures for today (Monday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Still ill, but feeling better.
3) Got various jobs done early on including wrapping and posting 3 Ebay parcels.
4) Hens and cats OK.
5) Smaller son wanted to go to Tesco. We bumped into his school friend in there (who he hadn't seen since Jan 2019) and of course smaller son hasn't spoken to anyone apart from me since then really, though he is in touch with this friend online quite often. He dived behind some shelving but L had already seen him. I thought I had better try to be friendly so I said hello and that it is funny to have real life conversations after the pandemic. Smaller son then recovered himself and reappeared and L (always a strapping 6 footer) said, "But he's SO BIG", which has amused me all evening! Smaller son is noticeably inches taller than L and much more heavily built with swathes of nearly black hair while L is ginger and pale and neat.
After Tesco I pumped the tyre up outside (still the emergency thin wheel) and flung myself back into the driver's seat, absolutely smashing my head on the roof in the process, so smaller son got the last laugh!
6) Made shepherds pie for tea with peas and gravy for smaller son and reheated cauliflower cheese for me.
7) Bigger son texted to say he has sent off for a new passport and is "going to somewhere that sounds like Venice" for New Year with his girlfriend. Turns out he will be going to Vienna! My first boyfriend lives there (he is Austrian) so I am not sure whether to warn him that an English speaking person who looks just like me might walk past him in the street. I also "borrowed" a plate from a very posh coffee shop so am wondering if bigger son could take it back, 25 years on. He will be precisely the age I was when I was there.
8) Will watch 24 Hours in Police Custody just now.
9) Already in bed with 1 hwb.10 -
bread looks yummy ampers recipe? Peter May book was The Night Gate from church friend. We did Lockdown last year at online bookclub - good and amazing he wrote it ages back and got it rejected as too improbable. The Night Gate is set in the times of covid with Enzo pulled out of retirement.
chick pea tikka all done with admiral tonight was persian lamb casserole with rice. and did have a tin of chick peas in. and pomegranate seeds out of the pomegranate rather than my normal buying a little plastic tub of them.
somewhere sounding like venice made me laugh frith I'd keep the plate
1) first meeting was 8am on city campus, got there 7:55, took me 15 minutes to get connected to wifi grrrrrrr
2) after hair appointment jumped onto #22. bus driver went totally the wrong way so was late for 10am meeting 🤣
3) had found a compartment lunch box so filled it with a lovely sandwich from homemade bread with goats cheese and tomato, chopped up apple and a little tub of olives - very very yummy and of course very mse
4) f2f induction of new staff - met our new administrator who is lovely, and a software engineer who apparently I taught in his 4th year computing! (that must have been 2003 or 2004...)
5) #22 home, no detours, walked dogs, cooked afore mentioned lamb casserole with rice and a veggie mulligatawny - lots of both so will be able to ring the changes - then some piano and now work emails with Kings College Cambridge evensong on - not doing a late nighter tonightMrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

Ooh, that bread looks good Ampersand, hope all appointments go well.
For yesterday,
Sunshine in the morning so washing hung out, still quite mild as well.
Over to see equine girlie, she had an apple and a carrot for treats. Have to say that I had a few tears sitting in her stable with her, bit fed up with everything poo going on at the moment, the pleasure was my lovely empathetic horse blowing kisses on my face which made me smile.
Made bread and pottered around in the kitchen.
Went out into the garden and there was a lovely surprise hanging on my gate, such thoughtfulness lifts the heart.
This for tea https://www.theguardian.com/feasting-with-ocado/2021/oct/22/rukmini-iyers-crispy-baked-squash-and-gnocchi-gratin-with-creme-fraiche-feta-and-kale
I cut the quantities down for just the two of us but not the chilli so a tad hot for my tastes but nice all the same.
Watched The Long Call as we had enjoyed the books.

You cannot go wrong with bread! Nor the shepherd pie and gravy! And the Persil lamb casserole. Yes, I miss read it again!
Cat and Hens!
Ship to Shore
Got back to see the cricket and ...
Watched Crocodile Dundee last night. Fizzy waters, cheese and cocoa was consumed!
Had roast chicken with broccoli, hogs under duvets, roast tates and pan gravy again! Then strawberries and ice cream.
Part 4!25-60 Part 4
Went from clockwork to new technology! Oh, maybe out of skool, but had to continue training! Course here and course there!
Travelled far and near, in fact nearly everywhere. To think it took over 20 hours to fly to California, but there was a stopover in Labrador! Only one thing to do, the bar was raised!
Mum passed on!
Bumped into the Albatross! Was on a fiery fizzy water call!
Film: Gremlins
Song: Golden Brown
Radio: Sport on BBC World Service
TV: Travelling Man
I work from home so my cat can be fed on demand!10 -
Hello from rainy land! Big bit windy and rainy!Woke early , dealt with doggy then back to bed for a bit ( perusing internet/ reading)
Then we went in to town. Dropped stuff off at charity shop…straight back out , very restrained! I do not need!Went to bank and deposited tips! They had a book sale so got a couple of books for a donation to charity.Went to nice restaurant for a brunch meal. Very nice.Home…hello doggy! Then had something to drop off at work, popped in , chatted for a bit then into supermarket to buy food for tea.Went a blustery walk with doggy. Was so noisy with the wind in the trees but thankfully dry when we were out. Then got ready for friends coming over for dinner. Made sausages, mashed potatoes, cooked potato skins, roast parsnips, roast carrots and roasted leeks. Oh and corn on the cob and it was all very tasty. Much chatter and laughter and cupcakes and a pumpkin cake for pudding. Then we’ve just sat and chattered for a few hours. Was nice to properly catch up. I’d my table set nicely and candles lit and it was just nice to feel a bit of normalcy of having people over.10 -
My large “silvered” mirror is finally up, hurrah 😀
It was much admired by Friends over for Chinese, wine, chat and laughs last night.
Painting the orange pine bookcase to a more fitting very pale grey continues.
Beautiful sky yesterday evening.
Nice walk round local lake with friend this morning.
Night all 💤10 -
Pleasures for today (Tuesday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Still ill, but managed to get a few bits done. Went over to the post office to post the final Ebay parcel, found a brick on the allotment for the repointing on Friday (180 year old house with imperial sized bricks), took some of my auntie's stuff to the charity shop (been in my car since I emptied her house in April) and bought cat food.
3) Hens OK.
4) My new wheel has arrived at the garage.
5) My name has been passed to a museum to see if they want to have a chat to decide if I will be a suitable mentor.
6) Made pasta, peas and salmon for tea.
7) Back in bed again at 7pm. Have watched Who do You Think You Are? and GBBO so far.10
