So many recommendations for the Christmas Chronicles. I may buy it for DD's granny for Christmas, have added to my spreadsheet of ideas. I love Nigel Slater but as a vegan I'm not sure how much use I'd get from the book!
1. Cake and tea for breakfast (for it is my 31st birthday today!)
2. Actually took a lunch break and watched some trash TV (Til Debt Do Us Part on Youtube), ate pretzels and drank non alcoholic fizz. Can't wait for the real stuff
3. Cleaner came today. I love her. She does a fab job and I also enjoy the chitchat
4. Good day at work - my manager is being very helpful with my promotion process. Even if I don't get it this time - I think HR will actually have final say - I do feel like the team is behind me
5. Massive win - my husband complained to our building society about a decision not to extend our consent to let on our house in England, they have ruled in our favour - extending consent to let to the end of our residential mortgage term - which saves us £1,600 ERC now and £4,800 next year (as we would've been locked into a new ERC and have to sell to renovate this place). They're also giving us £100 for 'distress'. In short the email saved us £6,500. Insanity. I'm so, so pleased. Best birthday present ever as I manage the budget. I wish I wasn't so boring though - it's going straight to the emergency fund, or residential mortgage overpayment (TBC!)12 -
1) cheesy slugs for lunch with dd2 - when the children were small we used to do cheesy worms which was spaghetti, heinz tomato soup and grated cheese then dd2 went off spaghetti so I switched to pasta spirals and renamed the dish cheesy slugs
2) mid-afternoon walked into town with dd2 as I was meeting colleague from dental school for a coffee and informal PhD chat - lovely autumnal weather
3) colleague had chosen the place - £2.80 for a coffee or £3 for a coffee and pastry - had pain au chocolat hot yummy
4) then dd2 met me and we walked back - rather chillier on way back - cheese, biscuits and wine for long chat with the boss - excellent catch-up
5) now finishing some emails and listening to an eclectic selection of music on youtube - as for you mhags it's been a good dayMrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

Just wanted to say thank you for the kind comments. X
1 A lot of washing today some non urgently needed out on the line in the autumnal sun, and some through the tumble. A lot of blankets being washed to donate to the vets, we inherited them years ago from dad and it still leaves us with a few I am not convinced we need.
2 I’ve got my writing mojo back at last, I lost it there for a few weeks with good reason, but it’s back.
3 We are on self-imposed budget constraints, but in student terms I would be living off noodles for the rest of the month, tonight thou from stocks and making way to much brown rice earlier in the week we are having sliced chicken fillet, rice, last of the salad in build your own wraps. And cooking enough chicken up to make sure there’s plenty for putting it in pasta or risotto or alike for tomorrows food so saving leccy as well or trying to as I know I am using the dryer.
4 DH completely forgot my car was booked in for an MOT until the garage phoned, as he did it for me and forgot to tell me. Thankfully garage aren’t fussed, they know us, re booked it in for tomorrow. A pleasure of a hopefully good garage.
5 More decluttering achieved just a small amount but it’s all helping. Tonight I have no plans other than curling up to finish a book, which has in turn put the mud larking book on my list of books to look out for in CS’s.

PK - I have nearly finished the mudlarking book (from a CS!) if you would like me to post it to you. I'm enjoying it but, like many things, it is written by someone who thinks that everyone in the UK knows London really well. I have no idea where places are in relation to other places in London so I've lost track completely in the book.
Pleasures for today (Thursday)
1) Not a bad sleep. Downhill neighbours are moving out this weekend so they were emptying the house out and doing emergency hoovering well after midnight. They are still carrying things out to their car now!
2) 2 hens were OK but one has the runs, which is never a good sign.
3) Bigger son reappeared. He had pulled the dangling false bridge tooth out completely, pre dentist appointment. His girlfriend was here too so we had a cup of tea and played Scrabble. I was then sent a photo of him with the bridge glued back in. 13th dentist appointment since falling off his bike onto his face.
4) I might have a mentoring role with a local museum. Got to have an introductory zoom call to see if we get on OK. Massive imposter syndrome here.
5) Had a bit of a tidy and cleaned the bathroom.
6) My school friend sent me a parcel.
7) Brought saved salvaged bricks up from the bottom of the garden ready for the builders tomorrow.
8) Bit the bullet and ordered the birthday presents for my friend from sixth form college. I realised this is the 30th year I have bought her a birthday present, which might be why I had run out of ideas! I did (I think) order 2 quite suitable presents today.
9) We attempted to go to a "Light" festival locally but smaller son couldn't tolerate the crowds or the queueing.
10) Just watched Ambulance.13 -
For Nigel fans - my phone has just flashed up that episode number 2 "The Joy of Bread" has just been published/broadcast or podded or whatever you call it!12

Belated birthday wishes MandM, great pressie from the building society.
Thanks Frith, Nigel is one of the (very) few chefs that I can watch / listen to, find him very calming.
For yesterday,
Good long chat with my farrier, I’m worried about the current lack of diagnosis and am still convinced it’s something in her hoof. He is coming over today to have a look.
Spent some time with girlie, she dozed in her stable as I sorted through my first aid kit and other bits.
Soup for lunch, bendy veg with pearl barley.
Car needed fuel so detoured into horsey town for a few extra bits and to send off a parcel.
Finally caught up with Only Connect, tricky this week, and then watched Ambulance.

Crumbs and birthday wishes!

Jen sends a Buzz!
Now for something!
Well I am coming up ...10-60 Part 1
The first 10
Had mumps, and things! Then Mum heard that auntie had chicken pox, so we went on the train on Saturday morning to gather. Other cousins were there. Mum knew what she was doing, but I she only wanted to rub it in! The calamine lotion that is! Oh oin the mumps, I will go back there later!
For the train, we can no longer do that!
Was taken to Blundell Park and my blood turned black and white!
I also went to skool!
Film: Battle of Britain
Song: Ernie (The Fastest Milkman in the West)
Radio: Mum trying to tune the new transistor radio for dad!
TV: The moon landing.
I work from home so my cat can be fed on demand!9 -
Good afternoonn
DfV - lovely post. Re family tree - I'm always surprised about older people in mine. In the early 1900's one 73 yr old is a miner and one 72 yr old a farm labourer. And sadly one 69 yr old is a pauper in a workhouse.
Well, DH is recovering nicely from the tummy bug but now he's smittled me! I've not suffered too badly with the tummy bug part but I feel decidedly whammy ( medical term!)
Last week I went to the drop in vaccine clinic and was a day too early for my booster. There was nobody waiting at all. This week I went back and there was a queue miles long! But I've had a text from my doctor and can book an appointment so will do that.
Have found The Good Doctor on Prime and enjoying that so far.
Right, back to lying down in a darkened room feeling sorry for myself.
Happy Friday everyone
