For yesterday,
Scrambled egg and bacon for breakfast.
Weather was awful, lots of wind and rain ahead of the storm so a day spent indoors. Productive enough with bathrooms cleaned, bread and soup made plus general pottering.
Long chat with bf and arrangements made for a bench / coffee catch up.
Still had plenty of time for reading, latest book is a SJParris one about Tudor England and the various plots to depose Liz the 1st and get Mary Stuart on the throne, so interesting but trouble is that I keep stopping to research various locations etc.
Easy tea of mackerel and tempura prawns with sf veg, nom.

This is the photo I wanted to post from my walk to the weir on sunny ☀️Tuesday 😊

Ampersand, there's nowt wrong with egg, bacon and spinach. Spinach goes nicely with salty stuff, and bacon goes nicely with potatoes, cheese, fish, avocado, all sorts of things. (Ok, BoP, you can look now).
I have had a few days off, and one day does tend to blur with another. Pleasures the past few days,..
As ever, dog walks in the park. She has now met a bouncy Airedale called Stan, and a bulldog puppy called Vera. She takes great delight in running round with them, herding them, keeping them in their place, and the owners are delighted that she helps their dogs to socialise (is that a verb?)
Managing to get an appointment for said hairy hound to have a full beauty salon treatment at the end of the month. She really needs it.
Booking an appointment for next month with my holistic therapist, a facial followed by a full body massage. My birthday treat to me.
I have taken the plunge and booked a full house deep clean for next Saturday 20th. I want to get some redecorating done this year, but the house really needs de-grubbyfying first.
Placed my usual scented tealights order yesterday, and got a text today to say my order will be delivered tomorrow. When I am not at work I light tealights in the kitchen, hall and living room every afternoon for a few hours. It's a comforting ritual.
The taste of warmed chocolate beetroot brownies with good vanilla ice cream.
The scent of the pink hyacinth flowers in the dining room, fortunately it doesn't spoil the pleasure of the food.
New series Deutschland 89, on episode 4 now and it's a bit confusing wondering who's working for who, but it's good.
Online choir rehearsals, always a joy.
Being able to have washing on the line outside rather than have the dryer thrashing away and eating up the kWh.
Weekly visit from the fruit and veg van.
Reading and studying about the importance of self care. If you don't look after yourself then you're neither use nor ornament to anyone else.
One life - your life - live it!12 -
Nargle, agreed.
only just learning that now. This time 'better late than never' is true.

Gosh, back already. I'll get this Daily idea sorted sometime. Just being coached on a techncial thing that frankly makes a bad situation not much better just more thorough took a while. The underlying logic is absolutely hidden so I'm left muttering voodoo, which feels wrong with accounting data.LaineyT - likewise imagining all those homeschooling parents in darkened rooms & vaguely wondering if we have enough midwives to cope. Sunshine? <muffled coveting> No wonder all the lovely bread & soups - hm!BoP - I just love the idea of you walking the cat.Happycas - always a relief when the young go into school without fuss. How did DDiL cope?! I find the minibottles a total swizz - Just One Glass.mhagster - glad to know you like the sound of rain on velux, as I imagine there's a fair bit. Eep, seeds, windowsills, Must Get on! Soaked after dog walk - have you had the pneumonia jab? Should you?!Frith - when are you going to write the TV sitcom - when life is So badly organised, inept and irritating, I start doodling plot arcs. Next door has Not got mains drainage? That *is* a bit of an error. Still, a good survey should pick it up. Hurrah sons, & sorting paperwork.MrsSD - I was a bit startled to find Himself wanted bamboo undies but he adores them & as you rightly observe, very soft!bala - fingers crossed for boiler, laptop, husbandvillagelife - "Various people weren't in. It makes a huge difference." - and how! "Some people had to log in on their phones!" - we get that, too. Technology is only an answer to prayer when the prayer is Very Specific.Cranky - hurrah HT in school - hoping all he acquires is learning! Helping prep a house for sale is truly generous, as it's a lot of hard work.VJsmum - why shouldn't your supervisors miss you? You did a lot of hard work together, it's bonding!ampersand - what an impressive array of thermos flasks & all wonderfully clean! Rogue Male sounds intriguing.DundeeDoll - never seen a Red Nose tree before!PaulieHerts - at least you got to enjoy the sunshine (glorious photo!) & with luck the dentist will be swift.Nargleblast - as I understand it a 'socialised dog' is one that plays nicely with pretty much All Others, & it takes a lot of practice. As Finishing School for dogs is not, currently, a Thing. Self care is your own oxygen mask First, regardless of how much you love your fellow travellers.OS Pleasures recentlyMore baked spuds coming! Himself rebels against meal planning, but has graciously agreed we can have baked spuds this weekend.Last year’s kale in a pot has survived snow & in the sunlight there are five little offshoots from it. I may need to get out & repot the thing, to give it a chance!Watching the racing, Youngest saw me squint & pushed a cutting out board into place limiting sunshine in the eyes. Really must update my Will!Pleased to hear the Duke of Edinburgh is back in his usual repair shop & hoping the heart surgery team’s work is not ruined by Oprah. (I seriously think the young lady failed to do adequate Due Diligence but I never had a Prince fall for me with a thud!)The rattle of spanners is almost musical - middleson assembling his birthday welder.. (It was that or socks, but he did some swift research & presented us with a list of possibles!)Youngest & I are nibbling exotic icecreams thanks to supermarket discounts. As neither were soft scoop, I’m nursing a blister on one finger, ahem!Someone’s left a book on Nelson in the loo (not that unusual) & there’s a picture of his wife (Frances Nisbet). I was amused - most histories hop past the loyal lady in favour of the more colourful Other Woman. The menfolk are wearing their “oh gods she’s off on a feminist rant” expression but a lesser woman would have socked him with a pan rather than be so abandoned & in England. Her wedding ring is in the Nelson museum in Monmouth, to fit a ‘delicate’ (tiny) finger & looks as if it’s made of fuse wire. Makes me snarl every time, heroes should be heroic.Hah, family tree climbing. Impressed one American cousin not only clocked dates but estates & admits to slaveholding. I’m sure his Canadian & Irish even-further forebears are proud of how the lines are turning out. Dear heavens the Names! At least four, plus nicknames. Bless them - it does make finding them So Much Easier & of course back then name tapes weren’t an issue. Eyes the upcoming census benevolently...Sat in car in queue for tip with Middleson, counted 14 cars behind us, so admitted to both scrap and the freezer & he told us to unload the metal & then he’d help with the freezer. Lovely bloke! Son lifted it without help but we were both hugely glad for permission to drop both types.Have booked husband in for jab, (hurrah!) & now to just divert him from doing anything daft in the fortnight waiting. I am reminded to keep the cancellation number close in case the local place gets stock in. [Yes, Dear.] Hurrah for having our NHS numbers in the emergency file. [Then, within 48 hours, our GP called us up, for this Friday!]I may not use a pasta pan given to me as a wedding peasant on the new cooker. It’s bottom isn’t flat. I grouched about this to youngest “you’ll figure it out” he opined. “You’re a Toad. But you’re My Toad & I love you.” (I’m sure the absorption method is wonderful, just I used to drown the rice & boil it hard for 7 minutes, strain what was left & serve.)Used our wedding present le creuset kettle to boil water for the first time in about 2 decades. It has a mark 1 Bren handle, as neither of us was impressed by the plastic thing. (Bren forum friends wanted to know where you mount the sights & what’s the range - daft the jokes you remember across years!)Apparently the Vikings fed wounded warriors a pungent garlic & onion soup, waited & then sniffed the casualty to see if the digestive system as punctured. If the medics could sniff garlic, they ceased trying to heal & switched to palliative care.Trying not to chuckle as son croons “Ain’t that a kick in the head”, sounding credibly like a crooner warning up for an evening with the guys on brass. Which given how superbly louche he looked, tie loosened after the funeral, has me pondering he may be even more time-loose to photo than his brother. Tho likely less cooperative.Colleague disassembling old tv & karaoke machine & enchanted by white noise! His three year old is sharing the fascination.Shared jab news and possible ‘book hub for a fortnight, get a more local call within the week’ loop theory - one colleague has a 40 mile drive booked & another doesn’t know his NHS number (much cheerful leg pulling.)Cherished colleague has much deserved promotion & will alas leave us without a chance of a party - suggestions as to leaving gift include the beloved Freddo frogs & “deposit for a pony” as his daughters will undoubtedly want to share the fun.... (As well he has daughters. Sons might want a pterodactyl, or a jet.)There are days when the family Zoom breaks up in assorted fragments muttering oh for pity’s sake [I translate freely]. Just as well we spent a few minutes muted & gazing at each other so it wasn’t Wholly wasted! This morning a senior colleague managed to shift from “can’t see your problem” to “seems you’ve got it sorted, oh and a full technical solution is due through within the week”. Rousing cheers plus when next we meet, I may shake him warmly by the throat.I really am very lucky. Work, home, family, even jab in next 48 hours. Here, with you, I am helped to remember & appreciate that luck. Health strength love & courage (plus a solid internet link) to all as have need!13

Art'noon all
DforV - your last point was tricky for us this morning. Fortunately BT have been more efficient than we've ever know and we're back online already!
Pleasures for yesterday
1. a gentle yoga as my arms still hurt from the last session
2. Cauliflower and garlic soup for lunch. Nice the first time but rather repetitive.
3. Jab done - hoorah. Very slick throughout and cos DD drove me i didn't have to wait afterwards. Told the nurse (whose name was Carole) that that was my middle name because i was born at Christmas "Me too" she said
4. OH cooked my favourite meaty dish (don't really eat a lot of meat) of spanish chicken and chorizo
5. Finished 'Rebellion' (I think i just about managed to keep up with all the threads) and watched another 'Marcella' - though was very sleepy by the end of the episode and, even though it was only 9.00, i went to bed.
Have a good rest of day allI wanna be in the room where it happens12 -
Hello. It’s so wild here! Heavy rain and high winds. In at work early.
Home and lovely dry but breezy doggy walk at 7.30am. I’m quite happy being in and out of work as early and then doggy walking now that it’s light at that time. Surprised myself by not slipping and toppling off a raised ditch as I thought I was going to but rather had some inner core strength I knew nothing about and managed to haul myself up and stay upright! Was sure I was going to slide back down the mud...mountain lion doggy already way ahead!Quiet morning, watched a film called Summer in February. Pffft!Had a short snoozette.
Then workety work stuff. Phone calls. Emails. Then back in to prep for the huuuuugest weekend!Home. Nipped into supermarket and got some very RTC flowers.Very late tea or scotch pie and beans!11 -

Morning all
Bala - glad you now have heat and hot water. I detest to be cold more than anything else.
Pleasures for yesterday
1. No significant after effects from the jab - a bit tired in the evening with aches and shivers but they've gone now.
2. The wind had brought down our phone line so no internet 😳😱 Cannot praise BT enough as they were here by lunchtime and had it all up and running - the speed was because the live phone wire was in the road!
3. More marking - but half of it is now done and the remainder doesn't seem too daunting
4. Chilli for tea that we added chunks of mozarella to and had with avo and some doritos
5. family film - DS's choice of Kick A$s - was... ok. Not really my thing but i saw it through.
A walk is planned for today in the park with a friend so i'm looking forward to that. Have a good day all.
I wanna be in the room where it happens12
