Good afternoon, pleasures for yesterday...
Washed the HT's bedding, dried it, made his bed and cleaned his room. He usually does the cleaning himself but I like to do it occasionally. He came home from school to a clean tidy room.
I made fairy cakes. I haven't done that for way too long. Chocolate ones because they are the HT's favourite.
A Christmas present for my friend arrived in the post. It's come a long way so I'm happy that it's here.
Did some knitting here and there in breaks between house jobs.
All things on my "to do" list ticked off. Life is fairly quiet just now (apart from the HTs college applications) but I'm happy to have a warm, comfortable house.
Take care all of you

Happycas - happy belated birthday to OH!mhagster - to be in when it's rotten out is a true pleasure.DundeeDoll - I think I know those antibiotics - they're effective but leave you Miserable so I think a frog cake is a Glorious idea!ampersand - please rest the hand - when the interweb is respun tomorrow it may work better?Nargleblast - Dutch apple tart sounds wonderful, hot or cold!Purple Kitten - all strength keeping your own spirits up as OH struggles with pain. It's blinking tough.Bala - sis' older Lab had her cataracts sorted - very straightforward & took years off dog, frisking & frolicking again.LaineyT - a wild rabbit is a-visiting? Brilliant! Sometimes the really simple foods are a delight.House Elf 2 - at least you know where DS2 is & have had one Christmas with him in person. Fingers crossed for a second!BoP - that's the lovely Miss Johnson's clock - and gosh what a film. Yum, cakes of Jaffa...Cranky - presents ordered & arriving already? Awed! (Hugs to lucky HT despite the challenge of college applications)OS pleasures recentlyOh gods, PBS America praising European tanks & Himself muttering like a kettle as facts are delivered wrong.... You’re allowed to yell at panto, & his view of this puts it several rungs below that family entertainment.Just so happy to hear of Mhagster’s lad as I recall fondly the proud delight (as well as the quiet concerns) as our eldest fledged. The roaring pride of that first serious paycheque....Found the key clip I use to keep car keys attached to house keys on eBay - if they survive my testing, & I get the leather bite tag attached, that’s 4 presents sorted! (A keyring you can’t hold in your teeth barely merits the name & is no worthy gift.)Has anyone any good tips on stopping snoring? As I disturbed Himself rather severely recently & do not wish this to become a habit. There’s a “sentry box” that covers the loo while painting goes on/ is discussed. Bring on the changing of the guard & removal of all the newspaper & masking tape that we may see the room in its painted glory & Use It!The family zoom was mostly about which daughter will try which supermarket to obtain “ma made” for winter marmalade. Lady mother has had enough of husband’s comments about the thickness (or not) of the peel, one sister is adamant Waitrose have it (despite father’s unsuccessful attempts to find any staff member aware of it or able to locate same) and equally vehement Not Amazon: so, plan A one sister armed with phone snap of amazon stock to try big Tesco tomorrow, plan B another sister to phone Waitrose & Be Very Clear, & plan C me buy a pallet from Asda up here in the north & courier it south... dad amused at over-engineering, mum charmed we care. [Yeay Tesco! Sis has tenderly deposited half a dozen tins in the parents’ porch!]Hurrah the “Covid ward” bed is no longer heaped with Stuff but has duvet & pillow back in their proper places. Much stuff has been put away, more binned & ye gods my aching back. Also, there’s still more before my desk can be used to work at but it’s a lesser challenge. (I do hope I don’t snore again tonight but at least there’s a clean bed made to exile me to.) [Apparently I didn’t snore At All.]Enjoying being inside as the weather is ferocious wet & windy outside. Shame on me, giggling at sound of neighbour recycling glass in the rain. Maybe (after all those bottles) still insulated against other fluids?Following someone finding a sporran in a charity shop, I discussed The Kilt etc with sons - one opines ‘not entitled’ (!?) & would look a twonk, other vaguely grasps babe magnet effect but not currently riveted. Aye well, if you would enjoy the fruit, you must first plant the seed.Ah, Graham Kerr, (known fondly to my parents as the Galloping Gourmet), the recipe for your chocolate chestnut delight remains a joy - blissfully simple but So Rich. Mum put her hand straight on the cookbook & it fell open at this recipe - it was her go to pudding for adults when I was in primary school! To his critics for his generous hand with the cream, butter etc "Madam, you could go outside and get run over by a bus and just think what you would have missed!"Chap who did our chimney three years ago was in the area, knocked on the door & a distanced chat later, he’ll be back sorting the guttering & repointing the chimney tomorrow! I must drive Himself to the cashpoint later. (I haven’t the full price in cash in “the housekeeping” [A sock].)Golly the rewards of parenting. I greet son in from a night shift who refuses to hug “I might have Covid” but tells me I have lines in my face (where it was against a pillow) & “look like a Bond villain”. Taking an unaccustomed selfie, I’m puzzled then focus & he’s right! Youngest emerges to ask blearily “eh?” & I reassure him just brother returning. “Unh.” I challenge any dowager to express more with fewer consonants. Hopefully they’ll both be asleep in minutes. There’s a chap on a ladder outside & every time the door knocks it’s as he’s found still more to do. Ah well, this is why I keep the housekeeping topped up. They’re here, they’ve the tackle & are getting on with it. There will be peace of mind eventually, as well as some eye watering photos.Health strength love & courage to all as have need, working interweb, diligent self restraint and reliable weatherproofing & hoping all chickens are safely covered. Honestly, 2020, the year that Keeps On Giving... Onwards!13

Art'noon all
Pleasures for yesterday
1. tutorials went ok and i actually managed to write them all up without needing to put in additional time - also caught up outstanding stuff.
2. yoga with a new instructor - he was fab.
3. All the gloss now finished in the conservatory - emulsioning tomorrow. OH is doing it rather than me though
4. He cooked sausages which we had with leeks in cheese sauce for tea - it was yom
5. Watched an episode of each of Virgin River (very schmaltzy but watchable) and The Queen's Gambit (superb television - i may have said)
Have a good remainder of day folks. I'm super busy...I wanna be in the room where it happens13 -
Hello.Busy old day which started far too blooming early with a sock vomiting dog but thankfully I was awake anyway and heard him.
Was in at work at 6.30am ...’morning’ to a shop along the way’s delivery driver. He looked surprised to see someone else about!Just in for an hour doing some catering so I could have kitchen to myself. Looked rather stunning if I do say so myself! Then into supermarket which was nice and quiet. But oh so dark still at 8am. Had a very brief but nice chat with an older chap about the dark and the weather and if it was less windy he could go fishing. And we both wished each other a lovely day, it’s nice to be nice.Home...hello dog, it really wasn’t that long! Come on let’s go on a lovely walk so we did and he was a lovely boy and the rain had stopped but the ground was wet and I stupidly had my leaky boots on!Then nipped over to friends to hand over some stuff! Stuff that will go to family in need. Quick chat outside and then off again!Hoovered my bedroom and cleaned my bathroom and sorted out the various piles of washing into appropriate piles.Quick hug with DD2 in her bed...oh hello dog! Oh hello boyo!
Then boyo and I went ‘bottom drawer’ shopping. I don’t have much spare kitchen ware stuff ( well that’s not true...I don’t have much that I want to give away!) DD1 got all the excess when I moved back and it’s in storage in Melbourne for when she goes back next year. Anyway first choice of shop was full! Car park was full which I’ve never seen before obviously others stockpiling. So went to big supermarket and got loads. Then I went into nearby charity shop and I spy with my very keen eye something beginning with Burleigh ware! 2 large dinner plates, a medium plate, 2 side plates, 2 cups and saucers and a pretty little jug ( I’m a sucker for a pretty jug and would probably have paid the asking price of £6.75 for it alone ) Calico range which is a very pretty blue and white flower. And I know it’s worth more than £6.75 but it’s for me to keep in my dresser. Which means the Meakin stuff that DD1 bought a few months ago can be shifted and boxed till she’s ready to move back...only so much room in the dresser! Then round to the ice cream shop for ice cream and put the Covid world to rights with the shop owner who’s the same age as me and we agreed we’d possibly slipped into middle age without noticing...son meanwhile standing out in the rain! Then home and just in time to watch the Scottish Parliament update and bah we are in lockdown for three weeks from Friday evening. As expected. Hope to find out tomorrow if I’m working or back on furlough ( don’t mind either way)
Then flat hunting for the boyo so we’ve lined up a couple of viewings on Thursday before we go into lockdown as the area he’s moving to will also be in lockdown come Friday night but he’ll be classed as essential worker.Chat with the mother to let her know about lockdown and she’s very kindly ( and a tad unexpectedly) transferred some money for the grandson which will go towards his van hire! So that was surprisingly nice of her! Then the boxes which came in on Saturday and have been getting stepped around were taken upstairs but the contents of the ‘bottom drawer’ were brought out my boot and filled the space! Bah!Then the boyo made dinner proving that he won’t starve and now has his own sharp knives and getting my big chopping board from Melbourne...he’ll be right as we say in Australia!Ordered DD1 birthday gift from Etsy and it’s a local ( ish) to her maker in Devon so I’m hoping she gets it on time and that she likes it ( and I think she will and it’s small enough to be squeezed in a suitcase when she goes back)For this evening it’s a quick hoover downstairs and wash floors and then back to work tomorrow!Have a lovely night.& hope you’re doing okay? Was it extra surgery today?
Sue I hope you’re doing as well as you can be too. Big love to you and Mr Sue.💜
House Elf Mothers and their sons eh? Though I cry when DD1 goes away too. My boyo is a man really ( actually) and it’s time he was away ( thought he was going to be here forever) and yes I probably will miss him but we can all be a bit like ships that pass in the night at times and he ( pre covidy times) was often away climbing and cycling and camping so it’s not going to be a huge shock! And I do believe that as parents we must let our chicks fly and hopefully have given them the right tools to do so. And when he keeps tripping over his own shoes when he comes in he might decide that ah...a cupboard is actually a sensible place to keep them! I just feel sad that his dad’s not here to say ‘well done, congratulations on your job doing what I trained you to do!’ And to help him pack a van and say good luck. But I do all that on his behalf because I know how proud he would be.

Seeing you mention Melbourne, my DGDs were due over this year from rural Victoria. Don’t know when we’ll see them next 😔 thank goodness for technology. Love the tales of your doggy, we had a choc lab who once ate a whole, dry chamois leather, we wondered where it had gone, and found out at 230am in the morning ....
hope your son gets off to new job okCarolbee13 -
I do enjoy your posts mhagster 😊. I hope your son has taught you the perfect way to light the fire 🔥
Recent pleasures:
Watched a couple of episodes of the Crown, not sure I’m enjoying it as much as previous series, it’s all a bit too recent and toe curling.
Walk in local park with friend and usual local sausage in a roll whilst sat people watching on the park bench.
Roast turkey breast dinner on Sunday and leftovers turned into roast turkey pie but topped with mashed potatoes and leeks.
Walk in the woods today but it was too muddy so turned back and walked round the lake, think I glimpsed the flash of a kingfisher.
Strangely excited to find my first geocache in the woods 🙃
night all
