Pleasures today.....
Productive phone call with bank, better mortgage deal sorted.
Lovely walk in park, socialising with Dexter the Border Terrier and two cockerpoos. Both of the owners and me agree - we ain't bovvered about new local lockdown measures, they don't affect us, and what will be will be.
I took microwave burgers in buns, deconstructed them, added crispy cooked bacon and sauce, toasted the buns and ended up with something quite edible for lunch, with strawberries and cream to follow.
Washload done and dried on the line.
Lying in the sunshine this afternoon.
Noticing one of the leaves on the little acer has turned a fiery crimson. The rest will soon follow. One life - your life - live it!14 -
1) gbf very kindly gave me a lift to the station - was strange not to give him a hug goodbye
2) then my first train journey since before lockdown. Goodness. very empty, cleanest i've known train toilets! dutifully wore my mask except while eating my lunch (hm salad and hm soup in a flask)
3) watching the countryside and spotting things from my i-spy on a train journey which mum gave me for my birthday
4) walking through liverpool to the docks
5) very nice evening with xoh on her boat. now listening to the lark ascending. We'll have been married 33 years next month. it's a funny life! (me on the boat where i will be sleeping for the next 5 nights, just realised you can see my xoh in the mirror, oh and the wing of my lark ascending tattoo)

Enjoy your few days away DD ...where I’m up to in 2014’s OSP pleasures you were heading to ( I think) Antigua and VJSMUM was in Slovenia and I’d just taken over as manager at the cafe and was full of woes, moaning about the weather, going out for dinners with my husband , catching early trains to work, bringing home leftover food from work ( still do that bit), enjoying my garden, loved going to the local shops instead of just a blooming supermarket. And life was busy but good.Life is still good. Just very different from how it all was. I very much miss my old way of life ( especially the husbandly part) but realise I have to make the most of what I do have.
so...
A beautiful day. Cooler to start but warmed up .
Cleaned my bathroom and downstairs loo. Tidied out fridge.Had a call to say ‘we’ve had a delivery cancellation can we deliver your sofa this afternoon’ yes...however I now needed to move a garden feature washing machine and two sofas! However never underestimate the strength and determination of a wee woman! Think I’ll be ouchy tomorrow! But I did it all by myself. And have arranged a council pick up but for the meantime front looks a bit steptoe & son!‘It will come about 2pm if that’s okay?’ Yes...or maybe 12.30pm as it turned out and thank goodness I’d moved everything out straight away! Had literally just washed floor as they arrived so then had to dash round with a tea towel drying the floor so they didn’t slip!Anyway, it’s new to me, in much better nick than my old one was. The smaller sofa was still okay but the bigger one was a bit battered. They fit just perfectly and are very comfortable.
cut the back grass ( it grows quicker than front but really couldn’t be bothered doing it too)
made a nice chicken fried rice for tea. Son is away out on his first ever night shift. I did them for years and hated them. They just never agreed with me physically.Yesterday I saw a heron fly up from the long grass in the field and this afternoon I watched it fly round and round from my big window. Lovely.
So much bird song today, think because I was out in garden and had both sets of patio doors open I could just hear it constantly. Loving that my wee robin is back visiting.14 -
I thought your exOH was showing a bit of leg there, DD, but it was your arm reflected!
Pleasures for today (Thursday)
1) Good to get up after a silly sleep.
2) Hens OK but one was still laying her egg so we had to pop down again to collect them all so she wasn't disturbed.
3) Took the car in to be mended (under warranty). The tracking was out and the exhaust noisy. The garage I bought it from have a set up with another garage nearby so we went to this new garage. Very pleasant and helpful men, showed me the tracking was out by a long way. Lots of fiddling and the wheels now go where you want them to go! That was charged to the account of the garage the car came from.
Not such good news with the exhaust. Garage 1 put a new exhaust on last week (for the MOT) but it is not right where it joins the manifold. But Garage 2 did not want to mess with it, as Garage 1 only just ordered it so it would be under guarantee. Back to Garage 1 where they weren't very helpful and shoved some paste round the join. Still blowing and rubbish but we had been out for 3 hours by that time so we gave up and will phone again next week to say let Garage 2 do a proper job...
4) We had a nice time whilst waiting for Garage 2 to do the tracking. First we walked across Town of Glass to the SEND College (future planning for smaller son!) where one of their students gave us some meticulous directions to the cafe. A nice cup of tea then we looked round the professional units around the reception area (mainly glass based).
5) After that, we walked to the Glass Cone Museum and had a look round there and at the canal.
6) After getting the car back, we went to look at a mountain bike place for bigger son but it was closed due to Coronavirus. But we had a good look round there (posher bit of canal) and at a sort of upmarket bric a brac place.
7) Bigger son had his hair cut at the barbers.
8) We went to his school friend's mum's house to collect his bike (left there the other day) and she rushed out to talk to me about his face/tooth injuries (constant pain in tooth so back to the dentist tomorrow).
9) Tasty tea of Lidl spare ribs, rice, PSB and onion rings then yoghurt and fresh fruit.
10) Did the virtual pub quiz.14 -
Nargleblast I will have to look at my Acer today to see if any leaves have turned red yet.
1. Much better day at work. Still frustrating but better. Thankfully not at main place of work.
2. Free lunch from the canteen. Sandwich, crisps, satsuma, yoghurt and a bottle of water. Wouldn't normal very the water but the water coolers aren't working properly and the water comes out warmer than room temperature at the moment.
3. DS2 cooked a quiche for tea. Very tasty and he fairly often cooks vegetarian now. He says though anything can be improved with some meat.
4. Chatted with my neighbour. I had managed to help her earlier in the day which was good.
5. Watching starlings on the tv ariel. It makes me smile.14 -
For yesterday,
Noticeably darker for first dog walk of the day, remembered to get torch out of cupboard for charging as won’t be long until it’s needed.
Good schooling session with equine girlie, she was forward and engaged so a pleasure to ride.
Tasty lunch of feta salad.
Cleaned iron after whoops moment with beloved, dark top and high temp, did a few bits of mending and then sat outside to read. Trouble is I kept seeing little bits that needed doing so not much reading in the end, lovely sunny afternoon though and a pleasure to be outside.
The sparrow squadron are very used to me being around now and came down for a communal bath, so much chattering and feather fluttering.12 -
To the Opera?
Close, on the weigh to the Opera House in Boston, December 19! Yes it is BoP, and bag!
Juts red that as DD had one flask of soup, filled with salad! Enjoy your stay! Quiche, Egg custard tarts? Mortgage deals. Check them figures carefully, we nots wants too see hidden charges. BoP when I cheeks mine, they look cheep, but the set up fee far outweighs the savings! Bala. Try Jack? Jack Daniels honey! All roled up inn One?
Well last years BoPsie had her op! It looked like she would not make the trip to Boston. She did! End of. Don'ts thinks any other pleasure today passes that burger!Knowing the end is good, it was the bloody weight!

Another lovely sunny day
DH back to hospital yesterday. Good news. Wound infection is clearing. No need for more antibiotics. Hooray!!
So today, first non- hospital related trip in a fortnight. To our local garden centre, always a choice for a convalescent stroll. And coffee and cake. And treats from the deli. And pansies to have in a pot on the patio.
And now, DH resting in bed, and me resting on said patio in the sun. Well, it's been a busy morning!
Happy beautiful autumn day, everyone13 -
Hello everyone, pleasures for yesterday...
My "get up and go" seems to be returning
The HT's bedroom was cleaned thoroughly. He keeps it tidy and fairly clean but I looked down the back of his bookcase the other day when we were searching for a book he needed and the spiders had been busy.
Home made ice cream done and in the freezer in individual portions
Ingredients for a "cake of the festive season" ticked off and placed in a bag all together ready to make the item. It's a regular present for a friend that doesn't bake. I'll probably make it next week some time.
The HT went for a haircut after school. It was apparently the haircut from hell, partially due to a rogue wasp but he looks better for it.
Lovely sunny weather. Not too hot but not cold either. Perfect.
DD I'll be just across the river from you tomorrow about 10am. I'll give you a wave. You've picked an interesting time to visit unfortunately but I hope you have a good time.
Take care all of you
