BOP so sorry to hear about Raffles
1. Made it to end of day at work. It was a strange with lots of hushed conversation - none of which I was part of obviously.
2. Heavy rain and thunder storms which DS1 completely missed - he left for work 5 minutes before it started and didn't have to drive in the torrential downpour.
3. Free ice cream at work - enjoyed it.
4. No one complained we had salad two evenings in a row. I didn't fancy cooking.
5. Enjoying sitting in the garden with DS1 and DH

Yesterday
Heavy sea fret early on but soon burned off to be hotter than ever. Still had an active day.
Long promenade walk in the morning punctuated by half price coffee and cake.
In the afternoon we went to a nearby beauty spot. A lovely walk down a wooded ravine, nice and cool under the trees, and then a rest on the beach. It was lovely to see and hear the children playing in the sea and rock pools. Brought back memories of my own childhood, and then bringing our children to the same spot. The sense of continuity is very calming in these strange times. Then the walk back up!! Not far but very steep. Kept stopping to admire the view! But we managed it.
Very lazy evening after that!
And today, no sea fret. Straight to glorious sunshine. Can you tell I'm in the ' never too hot for me' club.
Happy 🌞 day everyone14 -
For yesterday,
These hot days are all rolling into one and routine stays the same, up for 6am and watering the pots, followed by any baking and chores needed to keep the house ticking over.
Rather than leaving our main meal until the evening we are having a lunch & tea of equal size iyswim, yesterday it was a tuna Niçoise salad midday and a slice of feta quiche with coleslaw for tea.
Chat with my DSIL.
With all the windows open at the back of the cottage we had a little bird visitor flying around downstairs, a slightly panicky house sparrow. Managed to usher back outside but he left his mark!
Read most of the afternoon.
My old dog’s bowl has been repurposed as an additional water container for wildlife and it was good to see a hedgehog having a good drink late in the evening.

Oooft it’s hot.Despite the aching foot which has been rested/ elevated/iced at various times I’ve managed to potter around and get things done.Kitchen tidy, downstairs hoovered, downstairs loo cleaned.Back grass cut.Continuing to dead head plants, doing a section at a time. Potatoes dug up. Plants moved around .
swept up outside.Did supermarket...with a glowering stare at the half masked woman who just kept coming into my space! Get back! Son put shopping away.
Son has a new job, hurrah! He’s been out of work for 4 months so I’m glad he’s got something. Starts in a couple of weeks. Thinks of lots of home jobs to be done pre start!Had chicken and salad and freshly picked spuds for tea.Friend came over. Sat in garden until the midges said otherwise! Gave her some potatoes.Started a book. It’s been a while since I’ve read a book and it’s quite a page turner. Read it outside...too hot, read it inside...too hot! Just too hot for me really!Still warm and I have to hope dog barks if an intruder tries to climb through bedroom window!14 -
Pleasures for today (Wednesday)
1) A bit of a lie in.
2) Bigger son did some work taking down trees.
3) Hens OK.
4) Popped to Lidl.
5) Bigger son made a magnificent shredded beef sweet and sour for tea.
6) Cleaned the bathroom.
7) WEATHER! It went up to 32 degrees, 34 according to the car thermometer. Stuck there all afternoon. Was unbearable cooking the tea. Then we had an hour of thunder but no lightning (?), circling the house but no rain. Then 4 hours of ridiculous thunder and lightning (it's still going slightly) with rain coming in through one window that was ajar, the cat (who never comes in) hiding behind the sofa, nearest town flooded, a barn down the road ON FIRE and a half hour power cut!

Had my Dad stay overnight as he had to travel on. Went to Lidsy shopping really early. We were the only ones there.
He had test on Monday and received results yesterday morning. They were negative.
It was wonderful to have some quality time with him. Very grateful.
Going to try and stay awake as it is getting light. Want to take Tiggy for the only walk she is likely to get today as it's probably going to be a scorcher today.
Keep well all...........

1. Enjoyed work - worked in a different place. Will be back there regularly from September which will be good. General chat and laughter- normal stuff but so different from other place of work.
2. Text conversation with friend who is enjoying her retirement.
3. Watered all the pots - still looking good despite all the hot, dry weather. We had no rain here.
4. Chat with DS2 girlfriend.
5. Had a meal out with friends. It was a very good evening. We went to a pub fairly locally and they had served 126 meals in the evening.
Good was excellent as normal there and cheaper.14
