Hi CRANKY. I had to get Enduring POA for my parents 10 years ago. My Dad was fully with it but my Mum was already in the early stages of dementia. It was a straight forward procedure with a solicitor, forms to sign and witnessed. My parents and I met up at my brother’s house and his next door neighbours witnessed it. I also discussed with dad about their property. If they gifted it to my brother and I then social services couldn’t force the sale of it to pay for any care they may need in the future. My parents did that at the same time.
As things worked out my Dad became too ill to look after my Mum in 2012. I rang social services in Northumberland explaining that they now both needed nursing home care. It turned out she already had a care manager and she very swiftly got them into a nursing home. My dad died 10 days later (he had cancer). My Mum died last year. My brother and I sold their home and we kept the money from the sale. It was a problem for me travelling to a nursing home in Northumberland as I live on the south end of North Yorkshire especially when my Mum no longer recognised me. However, She did move to a home in Durham, 10 miles from my brother, 3 years later. I’ve been a nursing home manager so I was fairly familiar with the system.
I hope this helps12 -
Sorry for popping in so many times today but had to share this..........
I put Flo the Crow's food on an old table. The other birds get theirs in a separate place in the garden. Flo also gets a bowl of water for dunking. I was convinced that she had brought her little one the other day and was delighted to see it closer up today. And yes on one side it is a mottled brown and a tiny speck of white so she has passed part of her Mallen streak on.
And then she went potty...........other crows flying above and off she went at full pelt shouting her lungs off !
Wow.
I watched her and I now think that I know where she resides. So that is where I will aim my calls for her.

Pleasures for today (Monday)
1) A lie in.
2) Wrote a letter to my Aunty N who has been shielding for 3 months and has not seen her grandson (my cousin) yet. He was born at the start of April.
3) Ordered the Indian ready for Thursday. They have spread their delivery area out much further during lockdown so this will be the first time in my life I have ever been able to have a takeaway delivered to my door!
4) Left a message about battery hens...
5) Emailed my local councillor about the new development (again) across the road on the village car park.
6) Put 3 more things on Ebay.
7) Tasty lunch.
8) Very tasty tea! Had some puff pastry that needed using up. So I fried up onions, chicken, sage leaves and bacon and made a sort of massive pasty (with cheese in too). Chopped it into 3 for our tea and had with salad and it was a rare triumph!
AND....
9) Got through to legal aid (whatever they are called these days) and in principle smaller son now has a solicitor. Chatted to her for a bit and she just kept saying, "So, college off rolled him. Why hasn't anyone been out? Why have they just left him? Why has it been 16 months since he had a review? Why is everyone ignoring you?!" She said she was emailing some forms out to me and these have not arrived so of course now I am thinking that it was all a mistake and she can't represent smaller son at all or perhaps I dreamed the whole phone call!14 -
1 Slowly mowed the garden almost following a bee around the clover, it will grow again no doubt.
2 DH is bored of meal plans, so I am trying to mix it up or at least not add turkey mince to every base.
3 Watered the front and back gardens as no rain for a few days.
4 I made some chocolate and cranberry cupcakes and they are lovely if I do say so myself.
5 Letting the animals enjoy the late evening dew, it’s like they clean their coats and go loopy around the garden.
I need to post daily again, it's habit.

Hello everyone ! Wwill take some time to catch up on the thread later once the smalls are at school !
Baby still breech, and predicted to be a biggun so we have the csection booked for next monday ! Exciting she's nearly here, i cant wait to meet her !
My OS pleasures from last few days ;
1. Lovely sunshine meaning i have been able to get out in the garden and tidy and generally potter around whilst the children trampoline, or make mud soup, or play at have a flower shop (my daughter the future Florist!)
2. My birthday end of last week, had a wonderful bbq with the bestest of friends.
3. Finished painting the iron handrail black on main staircase, looks so classy and really 'finishes' the stairwell redecoration.
4. Our rescue dog has really come out of his shell recently and has adopted a teddy which he carries around everywhere and just breaks my heart all day long with his soppy expression of pure joy at owning this dribbly smelly teddy, all whilst getting 2 meals a day, a sofa to sleep on and lots of walks and cuddles. #adoptdontshop
5. Our town has given every resident a 10euro voucher to spend in the independant local shops to help them out after covid lockdown, even for the children (so we got 40euros!). We all went and chose some books for us and colouring supplies and books for the smalls at the local book shop.
Hope youre all well and that life is finally getting some normality back in the uk !15 -
1. Emails with my family.
2. Kept understair away at work other than when seeing patients- much better way to get through the day.
3. Have now got to stage of saying hello, rather than smiling, to a lady I see most days on my lunch time walj.
4. New recipe for tea - DS2 wasn't happy as it looked good and he had decided not to have any.
5. DS1 has a temp job til mid August- he starts tomorrow. I'm so pleased for him. It's not much money but has checked and he will still be paid girlfriend redundancy. It will do his confident end of good.15 -
For yesterday,
Started the day with my Pilates routine, it’s been over a month now and the improvement in my flexibility & strength is noticeable.
Baby sparrows being fed on the garden path, all demanding fluffiness.
Lovely morning at the yard, saw the other livery owner and we took turns using the school before taking the ponies for a gentle meander around the fields to cool down, easy to keep suitable distance when the path is only wide enough for one horse at a time.
Out to the farm shop for fresh F&V late in the afternoon, only customer in there, plenty of choice and they use brown paper bags instead of plastic.
Made a spinach & feta filo pie for tea, bit faffy but oh so tasty and worth the effort.14 -
Cranky40 - have just catch-up read your post: POA ROUTE ESSENTIAL - AND ASAP, ESPECIALLY WITH FB ACTIONS OF DAD'S GIRLFRIEND'S SON.
CARE HOME SHOULD NOT HAVE ACCEPTED HER 'HANDING OVER' OF YOUR DAD'S CARD.
ALSO, ON WHAT GROUNDS DID BANK (WHICH BANK?) CEDE YOUR FATHER'S CARD TO A.N.OTHER IN THE FIRST PLACE?
WHAT AUTHORITY EXISTED, OR STILL EXISTS, TO PERMIT THIS?
YOU MUST PHONE TODAY, COURTEOUSLY:-) WITH CONCERN AND DEMAND, YES - DEMAND - AN IMMEDIATE APPOINTMENT, WHICH YOU CONFIRM IN WRITING.
BOTH BANK, IN THE FIRST INSTANCE, AND HOME SHOULD HAVE CONTACTED YOU IMMEDIATELY. THIS SHOULD ALL HAVE BEEN PUT IN HAND THEN, PRECLUDING GF'S SON'S ACTIONS NOW.
IF HE IS HONORABLE (DELIBERATE CONTINUING FAILURE TO COMMUNICATE WOULD INDICATE OTHERWISE)
HE WILL BE DELIGHTED TO AGREE AND ASSIST IN ANY WAY. YES. HE MAY HAVE SWAY OR SOME AUTHORITY OVER HIS MOTHER'S ESTATE, BUT NOT YOUR FATHER'S. )

Having read subsequent advice posts and your social worker input update, I'd still be taking action as described.
Also, not all CABs have covered themselves in glory. Most are good, some exceptional, but this happens when one person is a passionate, forensic expert in their field.

Silly old ...
TuCows, now there is a bored from the past!
Cranky. Don't knows what to say, but I had the same with the old man twenty years ago! He was flocking useless without a stitch. And I is bee in polite! Fortunately his previous will was deemed correct and his solicitors words we. 'I can honestly say, I don't know what he wanted to do.' We got it sore ted but it took two years of ...
Sparrow chicks and crows. BoPsie is well feeding her pet pigeon! He lives inn the cherry tree! Raffles is not impressed!
Now with the BoPiness for the day!
Has mes elevenses slightly early this day. Mug of tea, with too chocolate fingers! Rite good for you. Cricket is on and I don't thinks they will play too well this day! More wide of off stump and used up the reviews!
Had snorker dogs last night for dinner, with chilli sauce. Then decent tart of Bakewell. That means only one more snorker role left this weak. Oh, the chicken curry is brewed well. Is in the freezer. Now I reds elsewhere inn this forum, that some people had problems with their refrigerators and freezers. Do they not teach people to defrost these nowadays? We has had only three freezers and the current one is 18 years old and still as good as new.
Just checked my utilities again, and still within £5 of the fly by nite cowboy outfits! Now special found on yours stitched site either. Bun with mes supplier now for over 30 years and still in that time always within about £10 of the best rate in the year.
Watched another flix last eve. Witless Protection. Very good romp and chase through mid west US. Wobbleades and cheeses wewre consumed. And buttered marmited crumpet! Nice!
Rite, justs gets the cake of fish out of the refrigerator for dinner. Will be served with some spagYetti.
Cannot weight any longer, BoPsie has gets mes clippers out and trimmed mes hare and me goatee. Now ell groomed again and bristly! Well tidied up!
Is all for this day!
Take a stand to the Scams!12 -
Good afternoon all, pleasures for yesterday.....
The first was contacting Dad's very sensible social worker. I can't go to the bank & or we wouldn't have this problem. He's in London, my sister is in a different country and I'm "oop North". The social worker is very much aware of girlfriend's problems and has managed to track her down (sounds like she's been sectioned for a bit but SW isn't allowed to divulge info obviously) so is going to see girlfriend and then going to visit dad to discuss his finances. We have to check that he doesn't have capacity before we go further. He can't read or write any more but you can have a conversation with him.
Second pleasure was a call back from the HT's pupil progress leader in response to my email to the maths department. PPL wasn't happy with what's happened with the HT's maths problems while she's been off for a few months. I had a further call an hour later and we have a meeting on Friday with several other people. PPL said it would be good if he left school with a GCSE in maths. I couldn't agree more.
Third pleasure was a walk along the prom. It was breezy but not cold and there weren't too many people about
Fourth pleasure was restocking the freezer with home made butter chicken. It's one of my favourites but I prefer to make it myself rather than buying jar sauces or ready meals.
Fifth pleasure was going to bed early to read my book. I managed to put it down at a reasonable time too instead of reading until 2am as I've been known to do.
Thanks everyone that has posted helpful advice about Dad. He's always wanted his girlfriend to be treated as if they were married, but it's not easy sometimes. When he was very ill the three of us (me, sister and girlfriend) deliberated for 3 days and finally gave them the DNR order. The next heart attack he had, they resuscitated him. Since then he's had to have a leg amputated as well as having vascular dementia. We had a real job finding him a care home as he has to have special care due to the type of infection that he had and he is no longer able to do the only things that interested him - walking and reading.
Take care all of you
