she returned with a 12-month BT Infinity 1 package (upgraded to Infinity 2 speeds, as per recent publicity) for £28.99.

Thanks for sharing this, I will give them a call then because going through the link in the price increase email I only get only 18 month contracts...
  • Have to say the approach in the post Bungaroosh posted is exactly what I've done the past two renewals with BT.

I had initiated a switch to PlusNet, phoned BT to cancel and miraculously they've found a much cheaper deal than they were previously offering!

Can BT then "see" you have initiated a switch?

How you do then kill the PlusNet switch process?

Hello everyone. Just bringing this thread back to the top of the forum to report some successful haggling with BT Broadband.

We were on a 12-month BT Infinity 1 phone line and broadband contract which, with discounts, had started around £27 and risen to £30.49. It was about to increase to either £47.49 without a contract, £44.99 on an 12-month contract, or stay at £30.49 on an 18-month contract. We are consistently getting 65MB+ download speeds, which is fine for us. It was due to expire in mid-December, and we only wanted 12 months.

We received letters in September and October inviting us to re-contract. I called last month to get the prices quoted above, but made no commitment.

I called again today, with specific packages from competitors to benchmark the package against (namely Virgin Vivid 50 at £20 setup + £27/month). I called saying we wanted to leave, but the initial offer from the BT employee was not competitive so I repeated my intention to leave. I was put on hold for a minute or two, and she returned with a 12-month BT Infinity 1 package (upgraded to Infinity 2 speeds, as per recent publicity) for £28.99.

So, hopefully, this encourages others to give it a go. Be sure to have the websites of BT's competitors open and be specific about the price you can get elsewhere.

    Good luck

i have been offered £25.99 a month, 18 month contract but that's fine with me

Reading this makes me really cross. I had managed to get BT to take my payment from £40 to £23.99 per month but this ends in February. Yesterday I got the letter advising me that it will be going up to £42.99 from February when my deal ends. What do I get for this.... 1.7 mb download at best and 0.34 upload. I got so angry today that I went through to the complaints department and cancelled my contract. I know I can't get a better speed because of where I stay but it is a real kick in the teeth when they can charge only £5 a month more than I am paying for fast fibre broadband. I can't even use the SkyQ deal I was offered or Amazon Prime even with a firestick due to these speeds. So my query is given I can't get better speeds who would be the best to change to? I am looking at John Lewis as they have a deal at £20 per month on a 12 month contract, I believe they are plusnet. Are there any better prices out there that I am missing?
  • I've just had them cancel my line and broadband and change me over to a different company who they don't know who are and neither do I. I now have no broadband and a fleet with the wrong number on, sign boards, business cards and clothing that now have to be thrown away and a website that has to be changed. There answer... I don't know what happened there but we can't garauntee your number back
  • My BT BB contract was due to end 14/1/18. Currently on Infinity 1 (too far from exchange so only get 30Mbps) weekend calls (dont use BT phone anyway apart from incoming calls). Got on chat to cancel - offered same price £29.49 inc line rental for 18 month contract. BT sport price (£7.50) stays the same and got free caller display for the 18 month period. I use the line rental saver product and will renew that in Feb. Importantly got confirmation in writing that price increases wont apply for the duration of the contract. (Save the script in case of any issue) later on. So no price changes until May 2019 and happy with the performance for where I am. Did look at moving again to Sky/TT/Plusnet , but would just end up getting dinked on the cost of sky sports or BT sport which we use a lot

Yes, so long as you leave a day or two between beginning the switch process and calling BT, they should have notification that the service is being moved.

BT take care of killing the Plusnet switch. The last time I even received the Plusnet router and still managed to get the process killed off and didn't incur any additional fees.

strangely enough this is what worked for me too! It was more of a fluke than anything. I had called them on numerous occasions during my 11th month, asking for anythign cheaper. They would return with even more expensive deals but nothing close to £30.00 per month. I finally got fed up with BT retentions and started a switch to PlusNet as they had a good offer on at the time but deliberatly stated a switchover date a month or so ahead.

A few days later I called BT retentions again, and miraculously I too was found a £28.99 deal for 12 months, AND 12 months free BT SPORT, inc Champions league etc.

I wasted no time taking that one up and cancelled the Plusnet switch as it was still within the '14 day cooloff period'.
