I'm finding haggling with BT almost impossible. My contract is up soon and all they would offer me is about £5 cheaper than i'm paying now on a 2 year contract :-(

I tried to cancel but apparently, you have to pay a £30 disconnection fee these days if you don't follow the standard procedure of swapping to another provider. I use BT sport a lot so i'm more on the side of staying at the moment but they are soooo expensive compared to other providers.

On that principle alone I changed, because they make it financially prohibitive to leave and don't offer good deals for current customers, compared to sky

offered 35.99 for Infinity 2 (I'm on Infinity 1 at the moment) 12 month contract, or £30.99 for infinity 1 but for 24 months.

I have a 20Gb data sim only on BT at the moment and I find the data on that useful for streaming sports etc when out and about. Factor in the cost increasing by £5 a month if I was to switch suppliers ...

Plusnet are currently offering £29.99 a month for their infinity 2 equivalent (although theire guaranteed line speed is the same as what Im on with Infinity 1!! Argh!).

    Quidco £95.00

Factoring in everything I'd make around £100 saving with Plusnet per year. still not sure about leaving!

That has been standard since they offered you free connection. Why would you want to cancel without swapping to another provider?

I tried once again with BT retentions in the hope of getting a good enough deal to stop me moving to Plusnet! This is about the fifth time I'm ringing them - finally I got an offer worth staying for!

    £28.99 a month for 12 months - which I'll be going for.
    or
    £26.99 a month for 24 months

plus free BT Sport pack for 12 months which makes it a bit sweeter.
I figured at this price and the fact I have a BT Mobile 20Gb sim at £16 and at this price its not worth moving over to anyone else just yet. Only problem now is waiting an hour or so online to chat to Plusnet to make sure they cancel my migration and refund the line rental I paid in advance !

I have to say Im not impressed with BT Retentions - theyre really hard work. At least with someone like Sky theyre willing to listen and keep you as a customer. If BT had offered this a couple of weeks ago I wouldnt have even considered moving elsewhere.

This is a very good deal esp with free bt sports. Did you ring every week until you get the offer you want? Is it infinity 2? Currently paying £23 for unlimited bb and line rental. Thanks for sharing it will be helpful when it is time for me to haggle with bt.

i kept calling back on 0800 800 150 which is their CS line (their chat doesnt have a retentions) every couple of days. Sometimes retentions would offer me really silly rates like INCREASING from what I'm paying now and made no effort to find another deal, so it seems either their 'retentions' deals keep changing daily, or they just read out a standard deal and dont bother offering you anything else.

I even got offered an Infinity 2 deal cheaper than Infinity 1 at one stage last week, then found out i can't get infinity 2 speeds anyway so its a pointless deal for me. The best before today they did was £30.99 for Infinity 1 on a TWO year contract. !!!! They even tried to 'sweeten' the deal with BT Sports for £5 a month (and its that price normally!!! So nothing special there)

Last week I connected to Plusnet on a £95 quidco deal and 12 months at £29.99 but still nothing fazed BT and wouldnt give me a good deal. I was ready to give up and let the Plusnet deal go through (i deliberately chose a migration date a month in advance to give me the chance to cancel it should I need to)

This morning I was bored so called BT on the off change and without hesitation offered me the deals I mentioned earlier!!! I have just taken the 12 month version up - BT sport is good for Champions League and the Ashes so its got to be good for £0 for 12 months!

Now all I got to hope for is Plusnet submit the cancellation on my line otherwise BT cant give me the offer :(

But still, its a good offer but very frustrating dealing with BT as they dont really value their existing customers as much as new ones.

Only interested to stay with bt for the sports at a discount. With plusnet you would have to pay sports at full price. Hubby watches bt sports on sky plat form. Thanks for sharing.

I've been trying to get my mum's phone and internet bill down. She had her phone provided by Italk and her bill this month was £53.80 including VAT. Her internet bill with BT which is out of contract was £55.00. I've decided to shop around for her. BT offered line rental, unlimited broadband and anytime calls for £44.98. I then went online and found two companies offering line rental, unlimited broadband and anytime calls for £25!! These were John Lewis and TalkTalk. I went back to BT and told them this and the guy came back with his best offer possible after talking to his manage or £38.98 for line rental, unlimited broadband and anytime calls. Does this sound good? Or should I opt for one of the two cheaper providers? I am thinking that BT are a massive telecoms company and should be more reliable and am will to pay a little extra. Are they worth almost £15 extra per month? Any advice welcome. Thanks for reading.
  • For what it's worth, I haggled with BT and ended up inadvertently signing a two year deal rather than a one year (which I had assumed I was getting). Partly my fault, of course, but I recommend from experience being explicit with every aspect of the deal - just because they're a big company does not necessarily mean that they're 'in it' for the customer over profit. I'll be looking to change for a significantly cheaper contract next summer upon the renewal date.
