BT broadband Haggling thread

Anyone ever phoned up BT to get a better deal?
i've been with them 2 years now, i pay £29.56 broadband + phone and £16.99 line rental and thats for the infinity 2 unlimited package, i just phoned up to say i've had a letter from vodafone as my mobile contract is with them offering me up to 76mbps (same as infinity 2) unlimited for £10 a month first 12 months and then £20 after, with £18 line rental, and the closest she would do is offer me £20 a month for infinity 2, she even said why don't i change my package to infinity 1 (up to 38mbps) to save money and i said what's the point in that when i can get the top speed elsewhere

I even said i really like BT as a company and would rather stay with them, still nothing, old stubborn she was could tell right away she wouldn't offer me anything as good as the others

You have no leverage for a better deal out of contract and you can leave and get an offer .
Or the last get out that gave offers was the price increase of 3rd July if you took the option to cancel before the 3rd .
My offer was BT Infinity 1 52 meg unlimited at £10 pm + advanced line rental at the pre July 3rd price increase .
  • I never managed to get a better deal from BT.

Plusnet offers Fibre Extra (the equivalent of Infinity 2) for £10pm for 6 months and then £19.99pm (line rental will soon be £17.99pm).

It's not as cheap as your Vodafone offer, but Plusnet is owned by BT so you may prefer it. There is also cashback available from quidco etc too.

Last time I was with BT, about 10 months into an 18 month contract, was hoping to haggle the price down a bit and they were having none of it. Joke was on them, I left them immediately when TalkTalk offered to pay my cancellation fee for them.

Friend of mine was waiting for the letter informing of the new increase in charges from 3rd of July. The letter never came so she rang up. She was advised that since her contract was not up until end of October, she had no chance of a deal. Was told to ring back nearer the end of contract when she was much more likely to get a deal.

Surely they would want to offer me something to stop me leaving for another isp though?

MAC is no longer in use .
The system is now you choose your new supplier and they do all the work .
