BT won't haggle in my experience (a customer retentions operator admitted this to me recently and said 'we have to do what on high says'...) The £10/month reduction is probably downgrading you from Infinity2 to Infinity1, which unless you are one of the lucky ones who could achive the 76Mb/s Infinity2 maximum speed, you probably won't see much difference.

Recently they were offering Infinity plus line rental all for £28.49/month plus £59.99 setup fee, and a £125 card. But this is only available to new customers; like anything else if you want a good deal switch when your contract expires as loyalty means nothing.
For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple and wrong.
  • I think everyone on here makes a good point about BT not rewarding loyalty. I just got off the phone to BT this very second (honestly). My contract ends 4th Jan 2017 so I rang them to ask what happens post 4th Jan and how much will my account go up by. I got put through to an advisor and she said yor currently paying £40 per month (Infinity 1 @52MB + BT Sport), and she said they could do £36 per month.

I said USwitch have my deal for £30 a month for 12 months. She then put me on hold and came back with £33 for a 24 month contract.

I said yes but I'm now thinking I want to cancel (which I can as I'm in my 14 day cooling off period), and get my other half to take out the contract via USwitch

I don't understand why I cant be offered the £30 USwitch deal, it cant be that difficult for them to do it

I rang up a couple of times recently, the first they couldn't offer me much. The second time I was armed with other offers from other companies. They seemed willing to compete with the Plusnet pricing, perhaps because they're the same company?

    In the end I got Infinity 1 unlimited (52MB) @ £9pm
and entertainment plus TV package, half price @ £5pm (including BT Sport)
plus line rental. I pay in advance so works out at about £31pm

24 month contract (which I'm happy with as I won't need to bother haggling for a while)
  • I agree you can haggle with BT and get a good deal. I have just negotiated a 24 month contract on less per month than I was paying on my initial 12 month "new customer" contract.

Just do your homework and compare what other providers are offering for "like for like" services, research any cashback deals that are available. Check what BT are offering new customers and give them a call.

Be polite and friendly but let them do the work to get the price down to what you want to pay. If its not close enough then be prepared to walk away and switch. It prompted a "Just a minute I'll have a word with my manager" response and I got a good deal.

24 months is the longest I have committed to a contract but I'm happy with the service and now the price so can't grumble.

I have spoked to them three times in the past few months, first two times was only offered a minimal discount, so told them that was too expensive and I'd just be leaving as soon as our line rental was up. I fully intended to leave but gave them one last call and this time they offered me a decent enough deal, so I agreed to stay.

Unfortunately that wasn't the end of it as its been a bit of a carry on the get them to complete that deal, including over an hour on the phone to various people. Eventually got it sorted out thanks to finally getting to speak to someone who wasn't either clueless or a condescending halfwit, but I am not going through that rigmarole again.

BT have got to be one of the most useless companies to deal with. :(

Just off the phone to them.

    £18.99 line rental
    £7 u/limited fibre infinity 1
    £2.70 w/end and evening calls
    £7.50 ent+ tv
    £4 kids add on.

£40.19 for 24 months (arggggghhhh!)....always a sting in the tail.

Current contract ends in 2 days on 11th.

Long story short i have yet another Openreach visit on friday to LIFT the cap they put on my line because they couldn't give me their estimated speeds and it was all they could think of. Probably why i got this price. Currently paying £42.39 for all of the above.

You can probably save some money if instead of getting Entertainment from BT you get the Entertainment Pack from NOW TV - it wont have every channel offered by BT, but it has the most popular channels. You can easily get 3 month codes on ebay for under a tenner. Similar codes available for KIDS pack around £2 a month.

Plus, you can put NOW TV on multiple TV's in your house - rather than just the one box on BT. So one person can be watching say Comedy Channel, while another watching a Kids channel on another TV.

You can pick up NOW TV boxes for like £15, and they will include a code for 3 months.

I only have BT TV for their basic service - and BT Sport.
