Thanks for your reply. I know that BT are in it for themselves but at least they have some reputation to keep and they are enormous with years of experience.0

Good post here from someone who describes how they haggled with BT and got a very satisfactory result:
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=73145377&postcount=1543The most recent "RESULT" from this method, was ADSL2 from BT, with no limits, min 7mbps (actually close to 17mbps usually) with a 12 month contract for £1 a month. This was in conjunction with a 24/7 phone package of up to an hour free of call charges & a 12 month line rental with free caller display & security.0 -
Thanks for that. Very interesting and helpful.0

BT are no better than other providers, they just trade on their name and reputation from when there was less competition. The bit between your home and the exchange is still provided by a division of BT.0
-
Plusnet use exactly the same equipment at the exchange as BT Retail....and they are both dependent on BT Openreach for maintenance. I'd save the money and go with PN personally.
As an aside I find it frightening that anyone in this day and age, is paying nearly £110 pm for phone and broadband:eek:0 -
Dont forget BT price increase on the cards .
This will apply to new contracts . Advanced Line Rental already paid will not be subject to an increase .0 -
Are they worth almost £15 extra per month?
I personally have BT fibre with BT Sport but in your case I don't think BT is worth the extra £s.
Switch and collect a new router in the process - here a link to the cheap deals currently going:

Hello everyone. Just bringing this thread back to the top of the forum to report some successful haggling with BT Broadband.
We were on a 12-month BT Infinity 1 phone line and broadband contract which, with discounts, had started around £27 and risen to £30.49. It was about to increase to either £47.49 without a contract, £44.99 on an 12-month contract, or stay at £30.49 on an 18-month contract. We are consistently getting 65MB+ download speeds, which is fine for us. It was due to expire in mid-December, and we only wanted 12 months.
We received letters in September and October inviting us to re-contract. I called last month to get the prices quoted above, but made no commitment.
I called again today, with specific packages from competitors to benchmark the package against (namely Virgin Vivid 50 at £20 setup + £27/month). I called saying we wanted to leave, but the initial offer from the BT employee was not competitive so I repeated my intention to leave. I was put on hold for a minute or two, and she returned with a 12-month BT Infinity 1 package (upgraded to Infinity 2 speeds, as per recent publicity) for £28.99.
So, hopefully, this encourages others to give it a go. Be sure to have the websites of BT's competitors open and be specific about the price you can get elsewhere.
Good luck :beer:0 -
