i got o2 broadband 8 days ago, and have had the same problems. i've tried uninstalling it using control panel, and also mcpr, and then reinstalling, but it still doesn't work. does anyone know any other way of resolving this? it's driving me crazy!
Uninstall using Revo uninstaller (Google for download site). This free program will remove all traces of the dreaded McAfee. Then install Avast!
anti-virus free program. First class and updates automatically and is non-intrusive. Get it here:-

I had exactly the same problems and resolved them in this manner, have not had a single problem since.

I currently get a speed of 3.5 meg from Sky, The o2 site says I can achieve 6 meg from o2. Is this likely ?

You will probably get what they indicate without any problems.
I originally signed up for the O2 standard 8MB package as my previous ISP could only give me a speed of approx 4-5MB.

I have since upgraded my account and the router syncs at approx 12MB most of the time, sometimes higher.

Great Customer Service when needed in addition to higher speeds.

Just to add to what Gary says above, basically O2 are using different equipment in the exchange to Sky, so there's no reason they can't be faster.

Is it not important changing the default router logon to your own, if there is a Superuser password to gain access.
  • Just wanted to come back and say I have happily been using o2 for a year now and have never looked back since leaving Virginmeadia.

I get speeds of 11mg and I am only buying the bottom end service, all in a very happy customer.

I signed up with 02 in order to take advantage of the £70 Quidco. I went live on the Premium product earlier this week, I'm getting 19Mb/s download speed.

I was on Sky Mid before switching with average speeds of 6.5Mb/s

I've been on O2 LLU UpTo 8MB since early February, got the £70 Quidco cash back too. So far I'm happy with the service over my old Tiscali 1MB connection.
