You don't have to pay £50 to go elsewhere. (But if you leave within your minimum contract period you have to pay up the contract).

Otherwise, you give notice, they give you a MAC, and off you go.

That's not strictly true is it?

Once on an LLU provider, if you then come off that onto a provider that uses the BT infrastructure (i.e. non-LLU), BT will charge the new provider for the changes to be made in the Exchange (i.e. take you off the LLU of the current provider back onto their systems).

That charge will often be passed onto you (i.e. the customer) by the new firm as an "installation" cost (£40 to £70).

    Could be wrong?

Could be possible (though I have used a MAC from o2 LLU to go to a "normal" BT type adsl ISP without any set up fee like this).

I was reading the post regarding it as being a cessation fee of £50 paid to o2 when you leave. (Which doesn't happen).

I'm due to move to o2 today. Connection to old ISP cut out at 11am, but I still haven't received a text from o2. I expected it to be a little quicker than this.

So have you tried to connect using your O2 router?

Not yet, I'm at work atm. Order status is still at 'in progress' but I'll plug in the router when I get home and see what happens.

When I joined o2 BB, I was connected within 2 days of placing the order.

    Lucky me. LOL

    Hope you get connected soon.

It depends which package you subscribe to.
o2 ACCESS is the industry standard BTw ADSLmax service (with the standard 0,38 etc settings) so you would just need to ask o2's helpline for the id/password to log-in with.
o2 LLU packages are based on PPPoE settings unique to Be/o2 in the UK and do NOT require any id/password (the physical line circuit is your validation) and MOST modems will have compatible settings though sometimes each vendors terminology can confuse.

Thanks for the detailed response. I'm in an area with O2 LLU, and having recently splashed out on a D-LINK DSL-2740B Wireless N router it would be nice to use it. Following your suggestion I have now located some guidelines re. how to set it up to work with O2.

    Hi all,

Is anyone a customer of o2 Broadband, and if so, can they answer any questions I have.....
    - Any pluses or negatives of note? speeds/customer service/connection
    - Is it slow during peak times (5pm-9pm)?
    - Do they traffic shape?
    - Do they port block?
I've got offered this for a very cheap rate but feel there has to be a catch somewhere?!! :confused:Paul

    All pluses - no negatives!
Been with them for 7 months now and very pleased.
Why don't you ring them and ask them about the traffic shaping and port blocking, it won't cost you a penny as all calls are freephone and it is a UK service centre (more pluses)!

We're with Orange but are looking to go to O2 when our current contract ends. We currently have McAfee Security Center installed on our PC & laptop and OH has AVG (I think) on his netbook which is currently linked wirelessly. What problems might we have by going with the O2 package with McAfee?

    Thanks
    LM :)
