As previously posted, I have changed from Primus to 02 and went live yesterday. Superb speeds (like Happy Shrimper). Couldn't be more pleased. Everything went smoothly, on the day they said I would go live, I was sent a text and an email to confirm that I was hooked up, put in the CD and everything gets changed automatically. So far absolutely first class.

So it seems the upto 8Mb package isn't actually retricted to 8Mb?

You may be lucky and they have forgotten to adjust your bandwidth to the package you bought, or, alternatively they are still doing the line tests and it will be baselined in the next few days to the 8Mb settings.
    Waddle you do eh?

Roughly about what time does your broadband go live on the day they say it will? I know not everyone's will be the same, but what time did yours go live?

I migrated back in December last year from BT and it went live around lunchtime.

  • All set to go live with my O2 BB tomorrow:beer:
Just wanted to ask what the best procedure is during the initial line tests etc..
Am I best to keep downloading loads of torrents or do I just surf as usual?
Should I leave the PC on constantly night and day?

With the 3 x o2 LLU based ADSL2+ packages ie Std/Prem/Ult the circuit is initially NOT capped at all. Thus you can sign up for say the Std upto 8Mbps package and if your line is a lot better than anticipated and you get over 8Mbps then the modem is free/able to synch at that higher speed. (Similarly you could sign up to say Prem 16Mbps but actually have a naff line and only get sub 8Mbps in practice.)

It used to take o2 about 3 weeks to assess this and then AUTOMATICALLY suggest to you an upgrade/downgrade, but I think in recent times they do this within a bit faster, say 10 days. So either enjoy the extra speed for a bit (at Std prices) and then get capped to the Std package speed you're paying for (ie 8), or else pay the extra £2.50/m a month to get Prem (ie upto 16).

We believe that the o2 service uses automated Dynamic Line Management to tweak the ADSL2+ during the first 10-14 days BUT that is just fine tuning behind the scenes, so you're probably just best to use as you would normally, and only if your line is unstable (ie loses synch too frequently) modify your behaviour.
