Just a quick question,
Having recently re-connected a BT line, we found out yesterday that we had no dial tone and although BT have recognised that there is a fault on the line they may require obscene amounts of money to fix it.
We're not planning on getting a phone and only really need a BT line for broadband so question is can we still use O2 broadband when we don't have a BT dial tone? Will it seriously affect its performance or is it a non starter as an idea??
Thanks in advance0 -
Think that could be asking for trouble as you could end up paying bt for a line that dont work and o2 for broadband that might not work too....if i was in your circumstances id wait to find out what bt are going to do with your line.0

Just got our o2 broadband, really happy with the service, was very quick and felt like they kept in touch at all the stages. Turned out a lot cheaper than what BT were quoting us, just got our line rental with bt now so instead of the 40 odd quid BT wanted we're paying about 12 to BT and 7.50 to o2. So almost half the price. I know BT could be cheaper if we went paperless so might get onto that too.0

BT have said that in the event that the damage is self inflicted or caused by faulty equipment then it is £117 for a call out and £100 per part/hour therefore after.
I was planning on trying my luck with the broadband as we won't be using the phone line for anything else so a dead line isn't really a concern unless it affects broadband.0 -
ooh i think thats just standard policy with bt now, i know when i called them out last year they told me that if its damage is to internal wiring after the master phone socket or its your own phone thats not working you`ve got to pay for the engineers time and call out.
If you`ve got no dialtone i dont think broadband will work anyway.
But be a good idea to check your actual phone is working and its nothing obvious before calling bt out.0 -
Think I'm going to do the move to o2 aswell! As there is £25 with Quidco going, I'm going to do it online but does anyone know if I can give my MAC to them online?
And is the offer for the Arsenal t-shirt still going? (not that I'm a fan!)0 -

Yep, you can. We set it all up online a few months ago, and had no problems. I think you can even leave it blank and get back to them later if your current ISP is being lazy with sending it out. We only needed to phone them up a few weeks later when I needed to change the mobile number linked to the account to my new o2 mobile to get the £5 a month discount. Apparently they can't do that over the net, but the number was free to call at least! :T0 -
I just hooked up with O2 Broadband today and the service is first class.
From the moment I booked the service online, they have sent text messages and emails confirming every step that was taken. I am also very pleased with the increase in speed over Madasafish.
I unplugged my old router that I was using with Madasafish (BT Voyager 2110) and switched to the new Thomson router that came with the welcome pack.
I am using a Macintosh so I am unable to use the start-up disk and the McAfee Virus software.
My only problem is when I click on the O2 website and try to access 'Broadband Help' or 'Contact O2', the connection times out and doesn't recognize the webpage. All other webpages load fine.
Does anyone know if I need to make any changes in the router settings to solve this problem?
