You get McAfee security included on the O2 set up CD if you want to install it. I didn't and currently use kaspersky anti virus that I got free off a PC mag cover. As weegie says free anti virus such as AVG and Avast does the trick too.

As for speed, phone O2 on their freephone number (on the O2 website) and they will give you a good idea of the likely speed. They told me max 3.6meg and I get between 3.2 and 3.6 meg. Number is 0800 230 0202

I am an o2 PAYG customer, and would like this broadband.
My mum also has PAYG with them, so we could get this at the discounted rate.
However, would o2 broadband work with a sky talk landline?

Aslong as your line rental is still with BT.

Our line rental isn't with BT (it's with Toucan who are owned by Tiscali) and we had no problems getting set up 2 weeks ago.
  • Hi there, I have AOL at the moment been paying £27 a month for nearly 4 years, asked for my MAC and all of a sudden it can be £12, however this only makes me more detemined to move knowing I have paid £720 more than I needed to over the past four years...anyway I digress,

    my question is,

I have my own netgear router it is the top of the range one, will o2 work well with my own router or will I have to unplug mine and use theirs, if so will it be as good. My iphones, three laptops and a playstation 3 and a psp are all working nicely with the Netgear.

    thanks.

I've just logged into the O2 website and they give you all the info and settings you need to set up your own router. (help - broadband - how to set up O2 broadband on your own router).

The advantage of using your own router would be that you could keep the wireless network name/passkey the same and just change the broadband connection itself - should be quick and easy. I chose to use their router (much nicer looking than my old one, and no more NAT problems for my Xbox!), and after I set it up just changed the network name and passkey to my old one so all my devices were still connected.

just got my o2 BB connected today. 3mb download and 1mb upload speeds.
much better than my old AOL !!!!!!.
all working fine up to now. only one problem is that my netgear wg111 wireless dongle wont work with the o2 router. (on my desktop puter).
    common problem i believe.

    the laptop works fine.

I set up my Netgear DG834Gv3 router bought from AOL using the settings provided by O2 on their web site and it worked fine. However, I only did this to compare with the O2 box and found the latter was a bit faster. I will keep the Netgear as a spare in case the O2 box fails at any time and I have to wait for O2 to provide a new one.

I am using a Netgear WG111 wireless dongle with the O2 router and it works fine.

I did not make any changes to the dongle settings but instead changed the O2 box settings to the same network name SSID and WPA pre-shared key as I had before on my Netgear router.
