Very disappointed to find that, having registered my interest on the O2 site a while ago and waiting patiently for the service to reach my exchange, O2 now state that I am too far away to receive a service.

This despite having had BB at this address for many years and currently getting around 4mb on a Zen connection.

Just wondered how far from their exchanges other users are?

    Hi there,

I'm currently with BT and am very tempted to move to O2. Hoping for fairly fast Internet, able to watch iplayer, etc. WHich O2 package would you recommend...? I'm not really sure how to go about it though. Do I tell BT that I want to cancel and then phone O2...? Obviously I'd have to keep my BT landline so would have to somehow turn that into the cheapest package... . Thanks!

We're about 800m from the exchange, and we've just signed up fine. Activation next Tuesday :j

David333 - do not cancel with BT first - just ask them for a 'MAC', and give this code to O2 when you sign up. This way you should only be without internet for a few hours while the changeover happens on your activation date. If you cancel BT then sign up with O2, you could be without internet for weeks while it all gets sorted.

Once you're all up and running with O2, give BT a call to double check that your internet account is considered canceled. Some companies have been known to keep charging you after you have migrated to another service because you didn't specifically tell them you were leaving. Personally this has never happened to me, but I would be very very annoyed!

I am 2.5 miles away and get O2 on their LLU service but only just over 2mb speed. However, this is much faster than I got with AOL.

Chalkie have you tried TALKING to them about it ? AND being prepared with the stats from your current modem ie:
    - down synch speed
    - down line attenuation
    - down Signal:Noise margin
as you may be able to persuade them - I think I recall at least one person who has talked them into accepting an order before on the basis of ACTUAL historic empirical data (as they are only rejecting you on theoretical expectations, maybe based on an incorrect database entry for your line).

"Be", the other o2 Group LLU ADSL2+ provider, has a formal 5.5kms cut off. I wasn't aware o2 had too. I personally have a 5kms (reported) line and get nearly 4Mbps down, nearly 1Mbps up reliably from o2 since October last year.

For your/any/everyone's benefit I have a summary of the o2 ADSL offerings (and the generally more expensive Be offerings - but they are selling a slightly different product package) at
http://cid-99aa6cf1226facfe.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/o2 Broadband -v- Be There Broadband

It's a two page 90dB PDF that explains the differences and issues to think about and is up to date with o2's latest 'offers' (revised 1/7/08).

Crikey Erb that seems very low. Would suggest you join hundreds of us o2 BB users over on the more specialised ThinkBroadband ADSL forums and the o2 broadband section there as our collective knowledge & experience ought to be able to help you get more than that (or understand why you're stuck with what must be the lowest reported o2 stats).

Yes - was reasonably persistant about it but the CS person was not interested. that is why I posted here - to see what sort of distance ther people were connecting at and to guage the accuracy of his information before taking it further with O2.

After all the plaudits for them here I thought I would at least be able to match my Zen speed and save some money into the bargain.

Will have a look at the other forum mentioned and see if it worth persevering.

    Thanks.

Very impressed with O2 LLU and customer service. Everything happened on time, they kept me informed and a call to for technical advice was answered at 10PM. I was up and running within 15 minutes with faster speeds than virginmedia and cheaper too

I moved from Bulldog to O2 Ultimate package. I am getting 15300kb/s down and 1280kbs up.

O2's service has been fantastic with text and email updates to let me know whats going on.

The speeds are much better than I expected as Bulldog gave me only 11Meg Max.

I will be downgraded from Ultimate to premium though as I cannot get speeds greater than 16 Meg, which saves me £5 a month!
