I was able to specify a desired activation date last time I switched ISPs. It was such a blessing being able to use my old connection right up to the last day it was paid for and getting connected with the new provider then. No worrying about unused days, no having to claim refunds. :D

I had a look at O2 Broadband's order form on their website but could not see an option to set your own activation date in the first page or two (I stopped at the point where you have to enter your details to proceed any further :p). Does that option appear further down the signup process in the shape of a text box to enter the activation date you'd like or something of that sort?

    TIA. :)

The difference with a normal transfer is that it's between the two ISP's mainly to sort out the transfer so they can negotiate when they can acheive it between them. When you move to O2 a BT engineer is physically going into the exchange to move "cables" so they call the shots within reason which may limit your choice of date they offer you regardless

Had my O2 broadband connected today and I can't say I'm that impressed. What are the chances of the performance improving?

Depends on your line really. What are the stats in the router?
They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it

I believe you can respond to a text message later on in the process and change the activation date - someone else who did so should probably confirm, though.

Personally I was doubling in speed, so very happy to have a few unused days from the previous supplier!

How long was your break in service for? My existing service is finishing over the weekend and have been told I have to wait until the markers are removed from my line before applying for 02broadband.

My Bulldog went offline about 10am in the morning and I was without broadband all day, but only because my hubby had forbidden me to try and set it up on my own! He set it up easily that evening.

I was just given a MAC code from Bulldog, gave it to O2, and they got me transferred over quick as a flash :D

Literally minutes. It actually happened the night before my expected transfer date. The connection went down and didn't re-connect straight away as it normally would. So I just decided to plug the pre-configured O2 router in and hey presto, I was on!

    (And 2MB/s faster to boot!)

Hmm.... tricky, that 'pulling one cable out and plugging it into a different box', isn't it! :D

    Hiya

I'm with Virgin at present, been with them a few years (previously NTL) and becuase I didn't sign up for a new upgrade package, they have basically told me If i want to stay with them I would need to become a new customer and they aren't offering any special deals or perks for new customers..........!!!!

The girl actually advised me to sign up with Sky, Tiscali, Talk Talk etc !!

    Charming !

Anyway, having read through a fair few of theses posts I am seriously thinking of trying O2. I am on O2 contract mobile phone and have been for about 7 years now. Also I haven't had an upgrade handset for about 2 years, my choice,...so basically, what kinda of offer could I expect from them?

Am I better off ringing them or doing it online?

    Thanks

you'll just get their standard offer, £5 off the normal rates for being a contract customer. It also depends if you are on an O2 enabled exchange
