  • Forgive me, this might be really stupid...

Accoring to the O2 Broadband availability checker, I don't have a BT landline. I thought all landlines were BT?

I'm currently paying line rental to TalkTalk. Does that mean I have a TalkTalk landline?

Can you use your own router with O2 broadband or do they force you to use theirs?

There's nothing to stop you using your own router but having used O2's one for a couple of months now I can highly recommend it.

Yes. I think you have to pay your line rental to BT for it to be a BT line even though it goes through the same exchange.

If you have a talk talk phone line it is not the same as a BT phone line.

But other companies do offer line rental on a BT line (eg post office). In the case of other companies (not Talk Talk) then although you pay them for the line rental, it is actually a BT line, and acceptable to o2.
  • Thanks for your help.

I don't have a BT landline and most sources say BT will charge £125 to reconnect to them. So now I'm stuck with TalkTalk's absolutely terrible broadband service because all other ISPs demand a BT landline.

This is all Mr. Fingerbottom's fault. He's a moneysavingnovice.

    Is this true ?
I don't pay line rental to BT and I have my broadband through another ISP than my telephone (yhey don't even provide BB).
Suggest you talk to the ISP you are considering & see if you can migrate to them on a TT landline.

Hi I have just found this deal - (Yes I know I'm sloooow!!) . I am looking to change to this deal but am planning on moving house soon ( maybe outside the 100 day guarantee; so could I give them notice to disconect if I moved to a house that only had cable and not pay the fifty quid disconection fee??

    thanx in advance

    from the o2 website:
If O2 Broadband is not available in the area you’re moving to

If your 12 month contract has ended, you just need to give the usual 30 days notice period. Make sure you return your O2 wireless box II within 30 days of leaving the service.

If you are leaving your contract early, you still need to give us 30 days notice. And there’ll be an additional early cancellation charge of £50 including VAT.

Been with them for 2 months. As others have reported, seemless takeover from Tiscali (thank god Im free!!!!!), regular updates on progess, line activated when they said it would be, dead easy router install, 7.5mb speeds for £7.50pm.

Also as some others have commented I get about one disconection per day but this might be due to a noisy line as my Sky box has problems dialling up too.
