Had my O2 broadband connected today and I can't say I'm that impressed. What are the chances of the performance improving?
what rates did you get on your previous ISP, how far from the exchange are you, whats the attenuation on your line. Could be a plethora of reasons for not acheiving "full speed", thats why it's always "up to"0 -

Just been switched over from BT to O2 today. Wow what a difference! I'm on O2's 8meg package too (£7.50 a month as I have an O2 mobile).
Just checked on Speedtest.net and couldn't believe it!
I'm VERY happy, as you can imagine. As others have said, I have also been updated with text messages and e-mails from O2 letting me know the progress of the switch-over, and the delivery of my Wireless router (which also comes with an Ethernet cable so you can plug into your computer, if your computer is not Wi-Fi enabled). The router arrived on the day they said it would by taxi! (?)
Call centre is in Glasgow and were very helpful and pleasant when I phoned them last week to give them my MAC number.
As I said, it's only my first day with them today, but I'm very impressed so far and would recommend them.0 -
Ive had a text today from O2 saying my router has been dispatched and they have taken payment, am very impressed so far with the service, just hope the speed matches up to my expectations (though if its faster than 2Meg which is what tiscali gave me Ill be very very happy)0

Amazing stuff. Texts come like wind telling you of the status.
I'm now up and running
Downloads 2882 and uploads 901
Just one thing - they advertise the space you get but that's WEBMAIL space, NOT webspace. Or am I being dim?
So I guess now I have to find someone cheap to host my website
Can anyone recommend somewhere please? I've seen http://www.comwebhosting.co.uk/lite-web-hosting-description.htm at £12.99 a year. Not sure if VAT is included but even so I think it's pretty good... ???
http://www.web-mania.com/ - 24.99 a year + vat but loads of features, I've hosted my sites there for 4 years
and returning to topic - I've had the o2 Boradband for a week now. Apart from the fact it disconnects once or twice a day the speeds have been great - even in the evening downloads don't seem to slow at all0 -
Typical! Be/O2 announce a further 380 exchanges which they are going to install their equipment in and mine still isn't one of them!
I'm quite surprised they haven't chosen to enable our exchange actually because it serves over 14,000 residences.
I'd jump at the chance of switching to O2 if they did get it enabled in our area. I'm with Newnet at the moment and whilst I'm happy with the service and download speeds I'm getting, the download limits are pretty low.
Ah well, I'll just have to wait and hope.:rolleyes:0 -

But potentially that is exactly why, so they don't flood their systems they seem to go with smaller exchanges a lot of the time. I.e. our sleepy retirement town was upgraded but 1 mile away in a much more populated town with multiple customers they've only just got their enablement dates for exchanges
I still think this 380 may have a big effect on their ability to cope though with the volume of subscribers0 -

Yeah perhaps you're right. It seems like an expensive way of flooding their systems though? Assuming a certain percentage of the residencies served by each exchange will sign up whether or not it's a small exchange or a large exchange. Then surely they're gonna end up with the same number of users if they choose to enable lots of smaller ones rather than a few larger ones? Except that they will have probably spent more due to the cost of enabling more exchanges?0 -

all fair points, I wonder if the space in exchanges may also be an issue, i.e. in bigger areas i guess some exchanges may already be getting full with the bigger players equipment who started first, so they are filling up in places that still have space where they can i..e I think somewhere like Barking in London has physically run out of space for all the ISP's now so can't take new subscribers or something. Also another thing I've noticed is the Be/O2 maintenance schedules seem to often affect a link of exchanges, it's almost as if in some cases they link exchanges outwards from a central hub, almost like a train line and keep extending along further. No idea why they would or if its just coincidence0 -

I doubt in this speed test service, I was with tiscali on 512kb, and it always shows between 4 to 8 meg, which i never recieved. These tests sites use their own fast servers to upload and download test files to your computer and based on that they calculate your speed, which obviously comes really fast.
On other notes my o2 broadband has just activated today within 5 days:j . But I can only get 1.5mg because of my distace from exchange, told by customer service.:mad:0 -
Hiya
I'm with Virgin at present, been with them a few years (previously NTL) and becuase I didn't sign up for a new upgrade package, they have basically told me If i want to stay with them I would need to become a new customer and they aren't offering any special deals or perks for new customers..........!!!!
The girl actually advised me to sign up with Sky, Tiscali, Talk Talk etc !!
Charming !
Anyway, having read through a fair few of theses posts I am seriously thinking of trying O2. I am on O2 contract mobile phone and have been for about 7 years now. Also I haven't had an upgrade handset for about 2 years, my choice,...so basically, what kinda of offer could I expect from them?
Am I better off ringing them or doing it online?
Thanks
Contrary to the comments made in post #243 - Phone O2 I was told by an O2 technical bod the other day that offering you free broadband is one of the options available to their retentions people0
