Got my box today (parcel line) - was sent a text a few days ago asking me which date I wanted - great idea!
Should go live tomorrow so fingers crossed.
  • Thanks stamford and **woody123**, one of you has something totally better, and woody, you've got way better uploading.

I realise that we're all different, distance from exchange etc, and my Newnet is just a 1month notice deal, which I took pending O2's arrival in my area, so can migrate easily, without financial penalty.

I guess that, subject to me not matching or getting worse than Woody, that I'd be better off with O2. Newnet charge for downloads in excess of your allowance, at upto £1.40 per Gb.

Will wait and see how others may respond, and have trawled through this O2 thread, looking at other speeds. Hope you get an improvement woody!! Thanks alot to you all. Rob

The O2 router is an old, rebranded thomson - you can boost O2 speeds by using a netgear dg834 (standard, N, G, or GT) and adjusting the settings - the Netgear uses a similar chip to the thomson, so it works better with the O2 line setup.

Found out from this article: http://www.ciao.co.uk/broadband_o2_co_uk__Review_5733698

wahoo - connected and about 5mbit faster than on Orange!

Can't get SIP to work with internetcalls.com with a phone connected to the box but other than that everything is working great :)

I'm with Newnet, and get this sort of result, but had waited for some time for O2 to be launched in my area - it still isn't, and O2 staff have no clear idea when :

Am I likely to get O2's speed, on their standard broadband, to equal or better this, in your opinion.

    Thanks, Rob

the easiest way to make an estimate is to get the attenuation figures and noise margins from your router for the existing line, they generally correlate to what Be/O2 will normally manage to offer you

Can anyone help me with McAfee that comes with O2?

We've got it installed, and for the first week it was fine. On the 8th day, we get this:

    2006239483353303628_rs.jpg

I've tried clicking on the "Fix" button but it doesn't do anything.

I'm assuming it's something to do with this pop-up that we keep getting -

    2006284313149096282_rs.jpg

When I click on the "Register now" option it just loads a blank page.

I've run a manual scan today and it worked OK and I'm not banging my head against a brick wall trying to work out what to do now. Anyone got any ideas?

    Thanks
    TG
