  • Comment about using your own router with O2 Broadband. I'd planned to use my own Netgear DG834GT but couldn't. The reason was somewhat annoying!

Your O2 broadband connection uses a blank password, but the Netgear router insists on a non-blank password...so...I couldn't find any way to set up the connection :-/

    Annoying eh.

Exactly the same here with my Linksys one - typing in spaces doesn't work

The Netgear is normally one of the recommended alternatives for the O2/be routers, but the details from their forums of routers etc. that have been tested and work is as follows

Posted: Mon Apr 02, 2007 12:53 pm Post subject: Bebox Alternativesicon_quote.gif There will be an occasion that Be* Members may prefer to use their own solution over the BeBox whatever the issue they feel the bebox features cannot fulfil their remit, this thread is to help those interested in using or are considering using alternative routers instead of the Be* solution (BeBox)

Please be aware of the following disclaimer:

“Be* technical can only give support for the Bebox and for support for connection/speed problems etc. it is necessary for the Bebox to be connected and the issue can be reproduced before raising a ticket or contacting support. ”

    Confirmed Be* Compatible Routers

Be* DSLAM equipment are based on the Broadcom Chipset and possibly some trend chipset (TBC). Therefore not all 3rd Party solution will be compatible with Be* networks.

Here is a list of known routers that connect and synch operate in full speed with Be* ADSL 2+ implementation. There maybe more please let me know if you have known of other models which I will update accordingly.

    Be Home, Unlimited

    Netgear - DG834N, DG834PN, DG834GT (With the Uber Firmware)
Belkin – 7633, N1 (May require Hacked firmware)
    Linksys - WAG300
    USR - 9108a
    Alcatel - 585,716,780 (716, 780 are the current beboxes).
Billion - 7402GL * (Please read the Billion section of this FAQ carefully before embarking)
    D-Link 2740B, G804V(Fastpath Required)

    Be Pro (Confirmed)

Netgear - DG834GT (with Hacked Firmware)
Billion - 7402GL * (Please read the Billion section of this FAQ carefully before embarking)
D-Link 2740B (Not tested on Annex M but has the option available on the device)

The list are all Broadcom 6348 or 6345 series and also The trend Chipset. Be* DSLAM as its based on BCM these will work. There maybe more routers that may be compatible.

Please also let me know if any of you find other Routers not using Broadcom chipset that have successfully connected and synched and operating on full speed with Be* network so I can update this thread.

So you bought your router how do I get it connected to Be*

The following is a sticky from The Unofficial Beforum Other Router Chat section:

Thanks to Irksome for this information:

    Dynamic IP

Select ETHoA or Routed Ethernet over ATM or 1483 Briged connection
There is no login infomation required
    Encapsulation : LLC
    VPI : 0
    VCI : 101
    MTU: 1500

    Static IP

Settings for Static IP's are the same, except to place in the details of your IP assignment and subnet in the correct fields rather than choosing 'get IP dynamically' and usually setting the DNS server address's and Gateway address.

    Primary DNS: 87.194.0.66
    Secondary DNS: 87.194.0.67

If you have already connected the Be Box before connecting another router you may find that you have to allow the DHCP lease to expire before your new router will work - in which case disconnect everything for 40 mins from the line before connecting the new equipment (Alternatively use MAC spoofing to spoof the same MAC address as your Be Box).

These are the general settings for most routers however there are extra configuration details required for certain models:

    I might have a solution!
Select no login on the Basic Settings page then you should be able to connect without putting in a username or password :j

  • I would like to get 02 broadband and went as far as buying an 02 PAYG mobile so that I could get their broadband for £7.50. I then found that I couldn't get 02 broadband because I live more than 5.5km away from their exchange!! (they say my download rates would only be 0.1mps).

I took my mobile back and got a refund. Their 02 shop is only 1/2 mile away from where I live and they don't use 02 broadband either!!!
  • I am getting connected on Monday, 7 days after requesting it. This is a service!!!! I was happy with my pay-as-you-go O2, now even happier.
