You're right, it's not prejudice. My mistake. It's xenophobia.

I wonder how you'd feel if the delivery driver left your premises thinking, "bloody disabled people, always being difficult".

You can throw around insults but it doesn't make it true, any more than if I accuse you of being disabilist. If I received poor service from an 18 year old man I'd mention his age, as otherwise companies can't identify whether there's an issue with a particular category of staff that they need to address. It may be that others who've received good service have had non-eastern european drivers, or maybe they've had friendly eastern european drivers, in which case that's also important to know as it indicates the problem is not cultural or widespread but limited to certain staff.

I'd feel pretty special if I could read people's minds and tell what they were thinking.

Based on the rather categorical responses you have had, you still think the issue is with AO?

    :rotfl:

Yep, and with anyone who thinks such a shoddy level of service is acceptable. I guess some people don't think they deserve to be treated any better.

The fact that you believe you found an insult that simply isn't there is telling. It explains your attitude to AO for what seems to me to have been a reasonable level of service.

Please don't try and dress up your xenophobia as a means of identifying an employee for some sort of employee training programme. It is what it is and it's evident from the words you used and the context in which you used them.

Doveman...you DIDN'T receive shoddy service. Please do realise that. You've told us what happened and everyone is telling you that's reasonable.

Im sorry i am a little confused. You wanted the machine pushed under the worktop, fair enough but it still wouldnt have been connected so whoever was connecting it would have needed to have pushed it out (double pushing more chance of floor getting marked). You say the fitter you have arranged wont be able to push it in without rollers, surely then he would have needed rollers to pull it out?

Also you would have preferred it to have been left at the back of another room out the way of the door, how would your fitter be able to move it then if he cant move it a couple of ft in a kitchen?

I am a not so strong lady, i fitted my machine myself from the middle of my kitchen and pushed it in myself, without the use of wood or rollers!

OP you need to recognize the difference between delivery to a room of your choice and wrestling the appliance into a space. The former is what you were entitled to and the latter is part of the paid for fitting service which you didn't choose.

NEITHER of you noticed the door issue in time.

Sometimes you may get lucky and get slightly more than you paid for in terms of service, and sometimes not.

I make a point of shopping with AO.

They took our old broken oven out and fitted a new one. We also had our washer from them and they took the old one away and fitted the new one. We have very small space and a tight squeeze, they did it.

As a previous poster said they photographed the floor first, when I asked why I was told it was to do with insurance. Two people also delivered the items to be fitted it sounds like the first poster only had one person.

I also think the opening poster got the service she paid for as 'room delivery' I believe the website is clear and gives you options for fitting and packaging being removed.

But if the washer was on a barrow would it have hurt for the delivery man to move it 50cm further in so the kitchen door could close?

Fire risk.. if the original poster may have been advised to keep doors closed over night to prevent the spread of fire risk. This was some of the info given by fire department safety check person here. If you have poor mobility you can easily get anxious over this sort of thing, I do.

I don't see this has anything to do with disability, not all disabilities are visible. So would the delivery person have known? Would the delivery person have known if other 'well' people shared the home?

I will continue to use AO. Affordable, online help and my experience with fitters has been excellent.

Perhaps the moral of the anecdote is to choose the fitting service or if arrange delivery when someone can be there to assist.

Original poster.. do you have any neighbours who can help move it out the way? Even neighbours you don't speak to often may be willing to help you out if you just ask.

So you have actually just implied this is purely an eastern european problem, wow. I'm also amazed you think washing machine hoses are long enough to connect before pushing the machine in!!!

I'm curious - what made the delivery driver eastern european? Was he wearing a badge?
Where does eastern europe end and become central or western europe, or do we just say that somebody white, with English as an obvious second language must be eastern european?
Would be nice to know so that I can improve my discrimination skills.
