As I mentioned, I'm having to do the same with PS who are just ignoring my complaint.

So different from the early days. When I was a new customer and trying to get my head around Powerpacks, they were incredibly helpful and patient. I wonder if it's now EON staff running things or have they retained the original PS staff? Do you know?
  • What happened today at Powershop?

I received a deluge of responses to emails that I have sent them going back to October 2020.

    In addition the following arrived.

it looks like someone realised that their system was blocked and "reamed out the pipes".

Did anyone else have the same problem?se have the same experience?
  • OK,
So it appears I have been "transferred" on to "Powershop Light" (PSL).
I note that all of the monies that I have previously paid for Powerpacks (PP) has been added as a credit balance to my account.
I also note that the tariff figures shown for PSL are identical to the previous tariff that I was on.

    This is incorrect.

If I paid £20 for a PP that was giving me 30% more value then I should have ben refunded with the "full value" of what I could have used terms of kWh.

NOTE; For simplicity, I'll ignore the daily standing charge, however the same applies as below.

    Here is the logic:

My old and new tariff shows each kWh as being £0.1268p.

    A £20 PP would pay for (20 divided by 0.1268) = 157.7287 kWh.

When I purchased the PP I was told that it had a "Value" of £20+ 30% = £26
This would pay for (26/0.1268) = 205.04731 kWh, that is 30% more kWh for the same price.

On being moved to PSL I have only been refunded what I originally paid. The 30% "bonus" has mysteriously disappeared.

This means that I have been defrauded of the "bonus" that I received for making an advance purchase of a PP.

PS still hold the credit balance and have not refunded it to my bank account.
They get to keep the advance payment and I loos the "bonus" that I paid for paying in advance.

I believe that either I should be credited to my PS account the £26 - However, If I requested it be paid to my Bank account, only £20 would be refunded, as that is what I paid.

    Alternately, the PSL Tariff should be 30% lower (0.1268 * 30%) = 0.03804  and (0.1268 - 0.03804) = 0.08878, to compensate and reflect the 30% "Bonus".

    Question: Is my Logic correct?

If I am, then all existing PS customers with advance PP's outstanding have been defrauded on being moved to PSL!

Please feel free to ask any questions or point out any incorrect assumptions I have made.

I understand your annoyance but (to use the figures you introduced) you spent £20 buying a Powerpack that if it were used in the Powershop Pro environment would have had the buying power of £20 plus 30% i.e. £20 X 1.3 = £26 worth of electricity. Despite the marketing spin, when you buy Powerpacks what you are actually doing is topping your 'credit pot' with discounted money. In this case £26 worth of credit for a spend of only £20. However, that situation only applies within the Powershop Pro environment. You will no longer be within the Powershop Pro environment so you will only get back (as a credit) what you put in originally i.e the original £20. That's my take on it - sorry that it's probably not what you wanted to hear.

Incidentally, I would be over the moon if I could get a day unit rate of 12.68p/kWh right now.
  • But I didn't request to move from Powershop Pro to Powershop Light!

PS Did it and I feel that I have suffered financially as a result of the disappearance of the bonus I earned by purchasing in advance.

BTW Orbit quoted me 0.11559p per kWh and 0.25108p per day.

It was the terrible feedback on their abysmal customer service that dissuaded me from an annual saving of £120 on my annual consumption if I switched.

You haven't lost out financially - you have lost out on the future potential of making savings which is not the same. I should have clarified that only with a decent company offering 12.68p/kWh would I be over the moon. When I do my energy comparisons, almost without exception the cheaper companies have appalling customer service. I've just escaped from Scottish Power having been placed with them by OFGEM after Yorkshire Energy failed so I know what it's like to be with a company with poor CS.
  • So do I, I was with Extra Energy but got out before they went "Tits up" - a common phrase in the electricity supply business!

So, your opinion is that I don't have a case to pursue?

My opinion, as a Yorkshireman (of course) is that if they hadn't moved me from Pro to Light I would have had benefitted from the "bonus" on the advance payment.

My contract doesn't expire until September 2021 and my advance "Balance" paid for electricity up until mid June at current consumption levels.

I suspect they are in the process of removing the Powershop Pro functionality and so will move everyone onto a 'normal' tariff so you wouldn't have been able to stay on Pro because it will cease to exist shortly. I presume they don't want the hassle of running the Powershop Pro offering.
I don't think you have any sort of a claim for 'loss of future savings'.
Not quite comparable but; imagine a shop where I get a nice discount every time I shop there closes down - I can no longer get my discount but neither would I expect compensation because they closed. Not quite the same because you pre-paid but you get the idea.

  • So I have my books of "Green Shield Stamps"!
    Just showing my age!

Thanks for your feedback and views.

    Regards
    Mick

I remember them!! When shopping somewhere like Tesco they used to come shooting out of a slit in the till near where the receipt printed out.
