    @shammydodger £7.14 plus 5% VAT = £7.50
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill
  • @shammydodger, did you factor in variance due to calorific value?

@shammydodger  I am intrigued by your comments saying that the unit rates/standing charges varied on every bill. Please give details, What was your tariff - was it fixed or variable ?

I'm with GNE and not found the issues you have.

I am with GNE (currently) and not had any issues with them
  • Been with them for about six months. No problems for me at all. The bills carry a lot of useful information.

  • To explain further, I was on the fixed tariff GNE Summer Saver V5. The tariffs charged the following: Electricity £0.1457/kWh and Standing Charge £0.1906/day. Gas £0.0274/kWh and Standing Charge of £0.1900/day. All 4 of my bills had figures that differed from these. For example, final bill had: Electricity £0.1388/kWh and Standing Charge of £0.3185/day; Gas £0.0261/kWh and Standing Charge of £0.3180/day. Bills 2 and 3 were the same figures as 4, but bill 1 was different again. On all 4 bills, the tariff name listed was the same as I had signed up for, so the discrepancies in the figures cannot be explained by mistakenly moving me to a different tariff. There is clearly a glitch in their systems, and I can't believe that I'm the only customer who has suffered from that glitch. Thanks, Robin9, for clearing up the annual discount query. I hadn't realised that it was subject to VAT. As for calorific value, I used the same calculation, including calorific value, that my bills detailed.

Hi shammydodger, We would like to clarify that the difference between the unit rates for gas and electricity you have noted is with/ without VAT. On the bill, your breakdown of your usage shows without VAT and this is then added at the foot of totals of these calculations a little further down.

With regards to the higher amount for standing charge, we would like to explain that our Fixed Tariffs benefit from a £50 direct debit discount. This £50 is split across 365 days and subtracted from the standing charge you pay, this means that if your direct debit is cancelled, your standing charge then increase by this amount.

When a direct debit is cancelled, we will write to you to inform that this will mean that any direct debit discount applicable to your tariff will no longer apply.

If you have any further queries, we would recommend contacting our Customer Care team who will be more than happy to help.

Kind regards, Jon - GNE Social Media Team

Is the DD discount removed even if you cancel after switch date to a supplier other than yourselves GNE?

Hi Wobbly_Bob, Apologies for the delay in getting back to you!
The removal of the discount will only be applied to periods that have not been billed yet so, as long as you are billed up to date, cancelling the direct debit after your switch will have no effect on your charges.

    A bit of a Rant ...............

I swopped to GNE in April following a MSE news letter.  Quite happily supplied monthly readings and their specific one on 26th July (they have a a 3 month regime) and duly billed .

Come September and they have an acknowledged IT issue and I am unable to enter the reading date.  Supplied readings and all OK and the reading appeared on their portal.

Come October and the same issue - GNE respond that it's my fault as I'm using Edge as my browser and could I swop to Chrome please.   However they do update the reading on their portal.

As part of the swop there was a MSE promise to help if there were any issues - emailed MSE and await a response.
