  • This is the biggest supplier to cease trading and go through the supplier of last resort, the size of the job on hand for which ever supplier takes the customers on will be massive, so you may need to be patient with things but don't forget to follow advice and press the new supplier for information if you intend to switch when you can.

    Good luck to everyone involved.

That seems fairly conclusive then.  Not a lot of room for doubt.
For the likes of us mere mortals I guess we just wait and see who takes over. I saw that Scottish Power took over from Yorkshire Power at the end of last year.  Either way we can all switch to someone else if we don't like the appointed one and we know it's not that big a deal to do so.

I suppose one question us GNE customers could/should ask ourselves is: would we be better off by cancelling our direct debits and settling our outstanding accounts when the new provider takes over?  ... or should we do the decent thing and keep paying in the knowledge that OFGEM are telling us not to be concerned about our funds?
  • Due to the number of customers you're looking at one of the large suppliers likely taking them on.
(BG, Scottish Power, E.ON, EDF, OVO and Octopus most likely)

I would hope not Scottish Power again but Ofgem have surprised me before by appointing them to Yorkshire.

I think I've been with most of the big ones and, to be honest, I didn't find any of them to be dreadful. British Gas always answered the phone and sorted out any queries I might have had - and I'm not sure that there's a great deal of difference in their pricing now.

Green Network Energfy did seem to attract a swathe of poor reviews on Trustpilot in recent times, so whether it all started coming apart for them I don't know ... Octopus, on the other hand, seem to find much favour.  I shall simply wait and see and swap if I find I'm not happy with the new provider - but I'm still pondering about whether or not to cancel the direct debit.

I applied to switch Gas from GNE to EDF yesterday ( Still with Octopus for Electricity) had this Twitter reply from EDF today "I can confirm your contract is verified and is going to proceed your switch"
Wondering whether I will still get charged exit fee switching out of GNE ( I factored exit fees into refer a friend credits wont lose sleep if do get charged exit fee)
  • I started a switch to GNE 13 days ago, so just within the cooling off period. Any advice as to what I can do? I would happily stay with my existing suppler, Avro, if possible.

I would say let Avro know your staying save a lot of SoLR hassle

Thanks - I'll call them first thing in the morning. I wasn't sure if I can stop the switch with existing supplier or had to let new supplier know.

Just ask them to block the switch , when you ring Avro its says emergency calls but read on the YE forum that they will deal with matters like this
I've used email for contact and Avro seems pretty quick replying so maybe email tonight and follow up with a call in the morning
