  • A truly bad choice signing up with this bunch last year, nothing but trouble all the way.I was meant to join them from Ovo to SAVE money, but there is not one month where that has happened. Distorted readings all the way up to a ridiculous last gas estimate. I am a single man living alone in a 2 bed, there is no way my gas bill should be £279, that's not even a full month haha. They were estimating my final gas reading at 3698 on march 7......yet as i write on 25 march my reading is only 3115. They are readings...readings....readings....miss one and they will clobber you......PLEASE STAY AWAY!!!

    Hi montyjones50,
I'm sorry to hear that you are unhappy with your choice to have switched to us.

I would like to explain that the saving noted at the time of applying to switch is calculated based on the information you provide regarding how much energy you use. If you end up using more than you did with your previous supplier or the information you provided about your usage was not accurate, this will result in a debit balance as is the case with all suppliers.

It is important to note that, if the unit rates of your tariff with us are more competitive than what you were on previously, your costs with us will have been less than if you had remained with your old supplier.

If we do not receive meter readings when a bill is due to be produced, this will result on an estimated reading being generated based on your past readings. If your actual reading ends up being less than any estimates that have been generated for a regular meter reading, if you send us a picture of your meter showing the reading, this can be amended for you. However, in the case of your final meter reading, we have to use what is sent to us by your new supplier.

This is a process that is followed across the industry to make sure there is no overlap in charges. Therefore, if your final meter reading does need to be amended, you will need to speak with your new suppliers to do this who, in turn, will hand these on to us.
Once we receive any amended meter readings from your new supplier, a revised Final Bill will be sent out to you accordingly.
If you have any further queries at all, please do not hesitate to contact our Customer Care team who will be more than happy to help.

Kind regards, Jon - GNE Social Media Team

    Welcome to MSE.

Sorry, I'm struggling to make head or tail of your post.

If I have understood you correctly, you applied to switch to Green, but despites months of trying, they have failed to switch you.
Well that seems a compliment towrads Green for their persistence in trying. If they are trying but are unable to, it sounds like Ovo have blocked them. There's nothing Green can do about that.

Your issue is with Ovo, and you need to contact them to discover why they are blocking you leaving.

But then you say you have been switched and are complaining about estimated reads used by the old supplier, Ovo, for your final reads.

As long as Green have used the same readings as your start reading with them, it's probably not worth worring about. It's neither Green nor Ovo that would be at fault for the reading actually used.
If the reading is significantly different from what you submitted, you can complain. e.g. did you leave the property unoccupied for the last month, so used far less energy than someone unaware of this change of use would otherwise expect?

It doesn't sound like that occurred from your post, hence why I am so confused.

Thinking of moving to green energy via the cheap energy club. Can anyone tell me if they take DD payments in advance? Also do they take higher payments in winter months and if not at what point do they review the DD amounts if at all after you have joined them. I’m just trying to work out my budget for the next few months. Thank you
Yes they do - I hate it when they take payment in advance

The top and bottom of this is don't touch Green Network Energy with a barge pole. After 18mth fixed term contract I'm pleased to be shot of them and their shoddy practlces. Anything I can do to stop others making the same mistake I am doing. Don't sign up with GNE. It WILL end badly

I signed up for a year and didn’t have any problems within that year. However when I came to switch to another company, GNE refused to accept the meter readings that were provided by the new company and therefore I ended up paying a very large (inaccurate) final bill. AVOID
  • Have to agree, my experiences with Green Network Energy have been poor and I wouldn't recommend them.  I 'inherited' them from previous house-owner and had issues from the offset - they wouldn't accept my moving-in/start date meter readings, despite both my moving-in and previous owner's moving-out readings matching, and both of us providing visual evidence of the meters/readings. This went on for months before it was resolved, in the meantime they kept billing me based on estimates from previous owner's usage for electricity/gas I wasn't using, which I wouldn't pay as I told them it did not reflect my ongoing usage and they were using incorrect meter readings, but I was constantly threatened with debt collection agencies, etc for not paying the bills they were quite literally making up and bore no relation to my ongoing usage. Took months to sort out, they never answer the phone and take forever to respond to email.  Horrific experience and unnecessarily stressful. Since then hasn't been much better, constantly hassled for meter readings, and even if provided they sometimes don't use them if you don't deliver them in time (seems like you have to respond within 24 hours of them sending the email, if you don't they just make up an estimate and bill you that),  and their estimates are not based on my ongoing usage at all but some random algorithm that over-estimates by a ridiculous amount. They're also very quick to bill you and demand payment and threaten debt collection/legal action if you go even a day over, but totally unresponsive when you try to sort something out with them, even something simple like providing accurate meter readings and trying to get a bill calculated accurately. They're also notorious for adding on a 'dinning charge' at every opportunity they get, basically an extra admin fee for you not paying one of their made-up bills whilst waiting for them to produce an accurate bill. Experiences I've had with other utilities providers in the past have never been this bad, these guys are verging on criminal in the way the conduct their business and I am leaving them first chance I get (property is in process of being sold, and will be glad to see the back of them). Avoid them like the plague.
  • Changed to GNE over a year ago.  I was last billed in October 2019.  I have just been informed that there is a discrepancy on the opening read and until that is sorted they will not bill me.  What a mess.  I now want to change my supplier as i can get a better deal.  Their admin is diabolical .
