I am a low user and the zero standing charge was the important thing

luckily it seems i have kept that and been tranferred to SSE at 17.49kwh

does anyone know another company with a PAYG tariff with zero standing charge and a better unit rate??

Hi. You haven't been transferred to SSE, you were always with SSE. If you do nothing you will stay with them. They are hoping people do nothing so they can keep the business. If you are happy with that tariff stay as you are. Check it against a previous bill to see if there is any difference in what you were paying and what you will be paying.

I am moving to Ebico/RHE My unit rate has been quoted for electricity as 15.95, (last bill was 15.91) gas 4.96, (last bill 4.95) so very little difference. I pay quarterly on a bill, there are no penalties for paying this way with Ebico.

I haven't checked any other tariffs

Ihave been with ebigo for the last 4-5 yrs , letter thu post this morning dated 30th stating new rates will apply as I use my car/key on or after 31st ,, the letter arrived AFTER I had topped up

looking at the figures suplied showing usage/cost last year as opposed to what SSE are offering , I would be foolish to go back to ebigo/robin hood , and even more foolish as they have just stated a 17% rise

figures quoted

previous

electric , no standing charge , 17.38 per unit

gas no standing charge 5.20 per unit

just been informed of a price DROP !!!

now (wiith sse )

electric , no standing charge , 13.82 per unit

gas no standing charge 3.28 per unit

estimations

last year / this year

electric £367.50 this year £292

gas £178.20 this year £112

I cant even find a contract account that can equal those prices , as most if not all have a standing charge that will exceed £100 per fuel each year

Have responded to this in the earlier thread you created on this matter

Consult a comparison site to find the best deal for you.

Some comparison sites (e.g. the MSE CEC) will allow you to filter by zero standing charge tariffs if that is what you particularly prefer.

Personally, I'd suggest leaving all the filters off, and then choosing whatever is cheapest for you (providing you are comfortable with that)

It might be wise to stay with SSE if your on low usage no standing charge.Bills can suddenly rise substantially. The only one that I am aware of currently has a no standing charge for prepayment is Toto, but service has come in for some critisism from others and personal experience as a prepayment user service is all important.Try Uswitch.

Why don't Ebico do what SSE have done and have a tarriff the same as SSE Zero for prepayment users?

The RHE/Ebico Tariff you quote includes 5% VAT the old SSE price you got from their bill doesn't include 5% VAT, so there will be a saving by switching away from SSE

Also SSE has written to customers on Equipower tariff - e.g those on a credit meter will see price rises of approx 15-20% w.e.f. 28-Apr-2017

Also, with Ebico Zero provided by RHE, you can now save an additional 1% by agreeing to pay by Direct Debit.

Yes, I've received the letter from SSE telling me about that price rise. It was in the middle of several confusing letters from both SSE and Ebico. I had to receive all of the letters and sit and look at them all together to find out what on earth was going on.
As far as I can see, Ebico got the original move wrong by saying you had to switch (cheeky or naive??) but also promising not to up the prices. SSE eventually wrote and said you can't automatically switch people so we've got a zero standing charge tariff we'll move you onto. However, inbetween those letters SSE sent out their price increase on electricity suggesting it was Ebico, but actually it's SSE increasing the prices (cheeky).
So if you move with Ebico to Robin Hood you keep your lower prices. If you stay with SSE you get higher prices.
That's for my area and my tariff. So I guess it's different in different locations.
I'm sure Ofgen will get a few complaints about the confusion caused by the different communications that have gone out about this from Ebico and SSE.

...We had hoped to make switching to our cheaper tariffs as simple as possible for our EquiGas/EquiPower customers. However, unfortunately our former supply partner, SSE, has been unable to support the transfer of customers to our new supply partner. So, we must now ask our EquiGas/EquiPower customers to confirm to us that they want to make the move to Ebico Zero....
https://ebico.org.uk/ebico-news/letter-confusion-so-are-we-reducing-or-increasing-prices/
...Ebico Zero is already at least 4.5% cheaper than EquiGas & EquiPower SSE will, on the 28th April, be increasing its electricity price by around 14% SSE, unlike Ebico, has not offered a price guarantee until December 2017

Quite apart from the omission of this key information, I am surprised at the apparent lack of imagination in SSE HQ, renaming EquiGas & EquiPower as ‘SSE Zero’ – which sounds remarkably similar to our ‘Ebico Zero’ offer.

The letter informs the reader that Ebico can’t transfer EquiGas/EquiPower customers to the Ebico Zero tariff unless the customer actively asks for it, which I accept. Yet it seems to me irresponsible for SSE, in its correspondence, to encourage customers to do nothing – ensuring that they remain on the same tariff – whilst neglecting to mention SSE’s upcoming price increase on the 28th of April....

It appears that Ebico prepay is no cheaper then British Gas per kWh for gas.

BG
3.310 per kWh
26p Standing Charge According to my meter.

Ebico Prepay
3.3250p per kWh
25p Standing Charge

Ebico need to do more for Prepayment customers.

It seems to me that since Ofgem stepped in and began regulating PPM tariffs, there is not too much difference between any of the suppliers/tariffs for gas

I have just consulted a comparison and for the Eastern Region assuming 12500kWh per year consumption, if you ignore the top & bottom 2-3 tariffs ( of the cheapest, 1 is only available if you have a smart meter, and the others are fixed tariffs from new suppliers; of the bottom 2-3 tariffs they are significantly more expensive) then all the rest are within a £35 band for an annual cost of about £500

All the more reason to question the ongoing viability of SSE Equigas prepay tariff, based on latest indications by SSE

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is too good to be true
