Those that have been switched to RH, did you actively select doing this or just leave it as the letter suggested and it would be done automatically?

I would rather go with RH but not really clear what is happening now with the contradictory letter from SSE

As you say the letter suggested we would be switched automatically. Even though I sent off the two Direct Debit mandates in the addressed envelopes, the subsequent correspondence from SSE left me in some doubt; however a phone call to Ebico confirmed that I had switched to RH - and I got the welcome pack yesterday.

I had two letters from Ebico about a week apart, they had a slip to fill in, name and sign, and send it back if I wanted to move to them. I did so.

SSE also wrote, they seemed to assume I was their customer, and I didn't need to do anything. I soon sent them an email saying I was moving over to Ebico/RHE. They emailed back saying sorry to see you go, and RHE would be asking for the meter readings which they will pass on to them.

When that happens I expect a final bill from SSE.

Yes, you need to tell Ebico/RHE that you wish to move to them.

my bill seems to have been lowered (by a lot) by being moved to sse , came into force 31 march , topped up card/key this morning , then letter arrived , checked meters with operator via phone , seems I am on a win win https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5626652

I had an e-mail before I had the letter, and acted based on the e-mail which had a reference number and a link where you could go to register and switch (that's how I found this thread, it was part of my checking that the e-mail was genuine before clicking links). Everything else followed on from that, really. I got contradictory letters and whatever else, but I assumed it would all sort itself out in the end. Which it seems to have done - fingers crossed!

If I am not mistaken you have to do something in order to switch. Or look at it this way - if you go to the Ebico site and switch to them and it turns out you didn't need to do anything, the result will be that you'll end up with Ebico (RHE), which is what you want so that's OK. If you don't do anything and it turns out you did need to, you'll stay with SSE, which isn't what you want.

umm , how come in my case simply moving to sse (or doing nothing) with no standing charge has reduced my bill by a lot?

    Moving from where to SSE?

Those with very low consumption have always had lower bills from Ebico.

Ihave been with ebigo for the last 4-5 yrs , letter thu post this morning dated 30th stating new rates will apply as I use my car/key on or after 31st ,, the letter arrived AFTER I had topped up

looking at the figures suplied showing usage/cost last year as opposed to what SSE are offering , I would be foolish to go back to ebigo/robin hood , and even more foolish as they have just stated a 17% rise

    figures quoted

    previous

electric , no standing charge , 17.38 per unit

gas no standing charge 5.20 per unit

just been informed of a price DROP !!!

    now (wiith sse )

electric , no standing charge , 13.82 per unit

gas no standing charge 3.28 per unit

    estimations

    last year / this year

    electric £367.50 this year £292

    gas £178.20 this year £112

I cant even find a contract account that can equal those prices , as most if not all have a standing charge that will exceed £100 per fuel each year

This is on the Ebico website:

So, to be clear, customers who have not yet let us know that they would like to switch to Ebico Zero, and do not tell us soon that they would like to do so, will remain supplied by SSE.

That Ebico Prepay Tarriff letter isnt very clear at all.Theres a hefty increase for prepayment users in many cases. Some people might be taken by fuel poverty claims also non profit council owned ethical company thinking they are getting the best deal but a check of Uswitch their identical to a number of other suppliers.

    ebico are claiming

There are over 2 million households in fuel poverty. This is defined by the Department of Energy and Climate Change as homes where the combined income is below the poverty line and higher than typical energy costs.
    The fight against fuel poverty

Yet they have intoduced in many cases a substancial price hike for prepayment users which are more likely to be in fuel poverty anyway. The Ebico argument is on thin ice regarding prepay.

It used to be that Ebico were independent of price rises by SSE but in later years they were introduced at the same time. The problem looks like they are just like anyone else exposed to market conditions and being tied to other suppliers dictates their direction.Perhaps they would have been better operating as a independent then perhaps some of the publicity may be in better standing.
  • I am a low user and the zero standing charge was the important thing

luckily it seems i have kept that and been tranferred to SSE at 17.49kwh

does anyone know another company with a PAYG tariff with zero standing charge and a better unit rate??
