Vodafone Retention Deals

  • Does anyone know if there is a legal requirement for a company to give you your PAC code? And is there a legal time limit they have to comply with your request for it in? I'm having major hassles with Vodafone - the worst customer service I have ever encountered - and I want to switch away from them but they won't respond to my requests and instead of giving me my PAC code they've cancelled my SIM so I can't use my phone at all - and people can't contact me either which is a big problem. Can they legally do this?
  • Sorry don't know the answer specifically to yr question but I've had no problem getting the code from Vodafone - requested the code on Wednesday and Friday they rang up, as promised, with it. By then I'd negotiated a deal so I'm staying ... but I had no difficulty if I wanted to leave. Yes, they were quite pushy in trying to see if there was a deal I was happy with -- aren't they all! But when they thought there wasn't, they processed the code. They seem to have a special department that deals just with issuing the codes.

Said to the guy I could go the run around route and cancel and get retentions ringing me. I explained the deal on my other number recently upgraded and advised to go straight to the chase.
He said he was retentions taking excess calls

Came out with an 18 month contract and was only feeling the ground
    SE c905
    500 min a month
    250 texts
    stop the clock, passport.
bluetooth headset ♦ as no in car charger
    £15 for 18 months

That looks like a decent deal. If I could get something similar when I request my PAC in a few days with maybe a few more texts and the N96 I think I'll go for that.

If I could get anything near that you won't be the only one falling off your chair. Was this offered to a customer who was paying a fair wad of cash each month or just a standard (if there is one) kind of price?

My contract is up 1st Jan so I called today to give my month's notice and ask for PAC Code. The guy asked if I wanted an upgrade or deal match and I said how about either of the deals above and he said he could not get anywhere near either of the deals, but he did offer an X1 on an 18m with 300mins 100 text and £40 for the phone but that was a rubbish deal. So PAC code will be sent within 2 days by letter. I thought you needed to give written notice of leaving though? The Virgin deal of 300 mins 300 texts for £10 is looking tempting now (no phone or long term contract), but it finishes today...

Just came off the phone with Voda C/S and asked if I needed to write in, and they said yes you do in order to fully cancel an account. The guy asked if he could do anything to keep me as a customer, and I mentioned either of the above deals. He said it must be a cashback deal to be so cheap and he could not match either one! By the way, fsrandom, where did you see the deal of the free N96 and 600 mins and unlimited texts at £12.50 for 6 months and £25.00 for the remaining 6 months?

I was rung by retentions today - "you've been a customer with us for quite a while now, why are you leaving...."

i said because another network is offering me a better deal.

"oh okay, well your contract will terminate the 26th Dec bye bye"

    Ahh well!

Yes, it does appear that it depends on who you speak to as to whether or not they can be bothered to keep you as a customer. I wonder if it has anything to do with it being the beginning of the month, as they may have targets and budgets to allocate. It appears that some of the better deals posted here fall towards the end of the month, perhaps due to retentions not meeting their targets? Does anyone work at Voda C/S who could give some insight as to why different customers get wildy different deals?

Got a call this morning from Vodafone retentions (only asked for PAC code yesterday!) and asked why I was leaving etc. so I told him I would like them to beat an o2 deal of £25.00 p/m on 400min/ 100texts and a free X1 on 18m. Was offered Free X1, 300mins/100texts £20.00p/m 18 month contract. Fair deal I would say, so I took him up on the offer and have 14 days to change my mind.
  • Called to get PAC and leave. Guy offered £17.50 for 600 min, unl TXT no phone. Said it was too dear and offered £15.00 for 500 min & 1000 TXT no phone. Said I had an O2 offer of £5 (but never said what it was for & he never asked!). He said £10 was the cheapest Voda did. So I asked what I could get for that and he offered the 500 min & 1000 TXT no phone - so saved a £5 a month with little effort! Said I wanted the unl TXT so he said I could get the 600 min & unl TXT for £12.50 no phone. (All these on a 12 month contract).

Was happy with that but asked if he could not throw a phone in anyway! After a bit of humming and harring he said the best he could do was a Nokia 1208. Better than nought I thought and went for it. Phone arrive next day and was unlocked!

Anyway got the paperwork about 5 days later and it said it was £12.50 for 9 months then £35 for last 3 months. Not what he had told me! So I rang again and eventually the lady agreed to change it to 11 months at £12.50 at which point I can re-negociate a new deal. I then said I didn't like the Nokia & eventually she agreed to send a Sony Err W200i - not much better but a bit!

I hope this is the best deal I could have got caused it took a LONG time waiting to bet through on 191!!!

hope deal goes through alright for you but not in my experience, i was`at same stage of process as you, thought everything finally settled , then i got first bill and lo and behold it was almost twice the monthly tarif and i had'nt used any extra mins/texts/premium numbers etc , since then i have'nt been able to get through to query this, all letters, e-mails have been ignored, i will have no choice but to cancel my direct debit though i believe that can affect credit rating, wish i'd avoided vodafone !!
