Only problem is most peoples fair upgrade is a rediculously good deal which the mobile company is making hardly any (or any at all) profit on.

Being a fan of the financial market these companies pump so much money into our econemy we as a country could not afford it if these companies operated in that manner.

incoming call revenue, a customer who does not make money for a network is dropped or offered a standard deal, you know the computer makes the decisions these days

breaking even or just less is acceptable but your upgrade will be crap

my Orange has 2000 xtra mins a month, 2 1/2 years of Dolphin £35 Direct
550 mins & unlimited texts & moved to websave Dolphin 35 this month and got £5 off ( still with a £20 no handset discount from Aug 07 ) so going to websave Dolp 35 I pay £30 minus £20 = £10 a month and from next billing date moved to Panther 45 websave, now have 3200 X net mins & unlimited landlines for £20 a month & £5 Broadband, I know come March my upgrade will be a " standard " deal with a couple of quid off - although incoming calls/revenue is high it defo not as high as outgoing, average calls at 5p between networks & 2000 x 5p = £100 a month outgoing from Orange to other telcoms, from Dec till March thats 3200 x 5p = £160, the bill is never over £25 since Aug 07 thats a massive loss plus BT Wholesale Broadband @ £5 with calls to FREE Orange/01 02 03 landines & 100 international landlines

    Massive revenue LOSS

my upgrade on every count in March 2009 will be a downgrade but my sis has saved thousands on that handset in 2 1/2 years come March - I paid the £35 for first 12 months and she got 2550 mins & took over the £15 upgrade payments from Aug 07 - as a working single parent its her social/lifeline - she gonna be sick come March no doubt !

if networks are going to offer such deals of course we are going to accept them........:rotfl:
SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe ;)
  • Just had my call back this afternoon from the team. After being offered no new phone the other day and halfprice line rental I have now been offered, and taken, the following;

    12 month contract
£35pm for 500 mins and 500 texts (which I will just about use)
£5pm for unlimited email and internet
    Blackberry Storm phone
    Free P&P

Still have the 14 day guarantee so if I don't like the Blackberry off it goes back.

    Quite pleased with that.

  • I have just accepted the following:

    Free Blackberry Storm

    700 Anytime minutes

    250 Texts

    Unlimited internet & Blackberry Email

    Unlimited Landline calls

    18 Month contract at £35 a month

The guy I was dealing with said this is the best he could offer me, and that he had spent all the available money he could on my account (FSRANDOM, do you think I could have got more, or is this all I could expect?). My average spend over the last 18 months was around £35-£40 a month

    Thanks

When they offered me the 18 month contract, I told them that I was not going to sign up with them again as due to the economic situation, and using my phone mostly for work, if I was made redundant in month 3 I would then still have 15 months to pay out on.

  • Woo hoo just done my upgrade.

I got 600 mins, unlimited texts and a Sony Ericson C902 on a 12 month contract for £20 a month and I'm quite happy.

I also got 600 mins and unlimited texts sim only (upgrade) for £12.50. No where else was able to match this.

To think I was told Vodaphone were rubbish at upgrades and I had no chance of another 12 month contract with them.

    Just did my upgrade too.

I was on a pretty good deal, but asked their retentions dept about what the cancellation policy was and they offered me:
    £20 a month
75 mins -I never use that many a month
    250 texts
    + free unlimited internet.
    + new Nokia N78 free.

Very happy with the process. I didn't have to ask for stuff they just gave it all too me. Much better than going to the shop or phoning the upgrades line as they just wanted to charge me more money.

So it seems this the latest best deal then everyone? What happend with the great deals retentions used to offer? Is it the 'credit crunch' or do they just not have to try so hard to get business before Jan/Feb?

Either way, I know last month (and previous months) retentions were giving people that £12.50 tariff with 600mins/unl' texts on a 12 month and were including decent phones too (Samsung Soul, C902 etc.). Can we say with certainty now that the days of these great deals including a phone are over?

My son's just been offered a Sony C905 free and 500 minutes and 1000 texts for 18 months at £30 a month.
He was on a sim only with the same minutes, texts and price. So he's getting a free phone, any good ??

This is what I'm talking about when I wonder where all the good retention deals have gone. I know someone who has just got the following from new connections:

    C905
    900 mins
    unlimited texts
    unlimited internet
    £22.50 for 15 of 18 months

I don't think this is anything out of the ordinary - it's just the standard half price for 15 of 18 months (or 9 of 12) that new connections have been offering for as long as I can remember. So it's a shame that retentions have gone from offering better deals for existing customers to offering deals worse than can be got by new customers.
