I'm expecting my retentions callback today, would be grateful if anyone else could confirm if the Omnia offers they've been given are for 12 month or 18 month contracts? Many thanks

Omnia, more than likely 18 month contrats.

Normal rules are to have discount valid only for 9 months, as if you have discounts in your last 3 months it'll screw you're upgrade next year.

Retentions and upgrades have a pot of money too use based on your last 3 months spend, if it looks like your just spending £12.50 they'll be able to offer you hardly anything, even if you do go the ordering PAC route.

So, for the sake of £37.50 you potentially get another couple of hundred pounds next time you upgrade.

Called vodaphone for my PAC code yesterday and they said they could not match the offer I had been offered which was one I made up! Got a call today from them and said they would give me 250mins & 100 texts for £10/month 12month contract (which was better than the offer I quoted yesterday!!) and after a bit of haggling managed to get a Nokia out of them only a basic one but happy with this. No messy claiming for cashbacks etc.

Today I called Vodafone to upgrade and change my tariff, huh what a waste of time!

I have two phones both almost two years old, one is on £15 (30 mins Anytime and 0 texts) per month the other on £20 (100 Daytime mins only). I now need to cancel the £20 one so thought I would get myself a nice new phone with extra mins and texts. I was just told that as I have such low usage I don't need a different tariff, I said I do and I would like a nice new phone. She ended up offering me a Samsung 770i for £20 pm 100mins 50 texts and told me that would be enough for me!!!

I told her that I would be better off cancelling and getting myself a new contract elsewhere, but she would not shut up going on about me not needing extra etc etc..... I think I might know what I might need in the future, but heh! My 18 month contract started in Jan 06 so it has ended.

She's going to call me back on Friday to see what I've decided. Watch this space, she also told me it would cost me about £300 for an Omnia 'cos it costs them about £400 or a Tocco would be £100. I don't think so.

    Any advice very welcome please......

Hmm, well that was a waste of time. Just had my 2nd callback, the guy seemed hopeless. He wasn't offering anything much good, so in the end I decided I'd have to point him in the right direction, and mentioned that my friend had just had a good upgrade from Vodafone in the last week or so.

He said only way he could match it was to find their account, and see what deal they had been given! Luckily I do actually have a friend who was given the Omnia offer the other day as an upgrade so I gave his name. Cue ages (and ages...) hanging on the phone in silence as he looked for the account.

After 10 mins or so I was getting fed up, so said I'd leave it for now, and if he managed to work out how to do the deal, give me a call back. He wasn't up for me going without signing to a new deal, and started going on and on again, but I wasn't budging.

Then the phone cutoff - I had full signal - so I can only assume he got fed up that I wasn't a pushover and going his poor deal. If it had been an accident he would have called back but he didn't.

Hoping now that someone else will call back in a few days and I will have more luck as I was getting nowhere fast with the last guy...

What was your average tarif cost, did you ever go over at all?

You have too remember the Omnia is very expensive and if you are asking for discounts / promotions aswell, you probobly haven't spent enough with Vodafone to warrent a £500 deal, especially if you're asking for a 12 month contract.

Is the Omnia the phone you even need? Do you need a fully touchscreen PDA? That's what the Omnia is. It's a Windows Mobile (Which, up untill this phone has been Business oreintated software) 6.1. I've heard people before now saying "Oh, it's Windows? It'll be like my PC Then!" Wrong, it's very difficult too use. Whilst this does have some perks it is very, very hard to get used too and use, coupled with touchscreen it's an absoluete nightmare if you are not used too the two.

I'm used too touchscreen and Windows Mobile and I hated the phone from the bat, some of the features are good, yes, but for general mobile usage there are better phones out there.

Don't go for a phone for the hype and/or potential feature list, go for a phone for usability and the features you're going to actually use/need. It's all good seeing a phone with a GPS receiver but you have too pay for this service anyway, same with most internet using features.

See about other possibilities, ask them what they can do for you. Tell them you'll let them setup 2 new Sim Only £10 deals for you if they give you a good deal. This works well for the Sales Agent and you can just call up once you receive them and cancel them.

Also take extras like 1 months Insurance free and 1 months Internet free and call up to cancel these aswell, all go in favour of the agents KPI's and he/she will be more likely to give you a better deal.

Hi. i have phoned up and was not offered anything much apart from £10 a month 75 mins and 100 texts or keep my existing contract with a nokia 6300 at £16 a month.

Just had a look at upgrades online, and from here i am offered a SE W595 for free on existing £16 month contract for 12 months or the LG Secret same 12 month deal but pay £15 for the phone.

Does either of these phones seem ok for the deal as i dont expect to get any of the outstanding deals some others have got with spending so little each month. Thanks

Just had my call back from lady in upgrades, (she said she was going to all on Friday) she didn't offer me anything different so she said she would put me through to 'disconnections'.

Spoke to a really helpful guy sho seemed to understand my situation, but anyway he offered SE770 or Samsung Steel at £25 pm for 18 months with 250 mins and 100 texts. Still not happy with this, so he said he had a few more ideas and needed to play with a few figures and talk to his manager, so would I have a look at Vodafone site and email him 3-5 phones that interest me and he would see what he could do.

    Any thoughts anyone?
  • I am out of contract with Vodafone now and have asked what they can offer me with a N96

    been offered two deals

250 mins, 100 txts and unlimited internet or
150 mins, 500 txts and unlimited web

for £30, but need to contribute £50 for phone and is 18month.

I'm also looking at the N96 or the new Blackberry Storm. In last 2 months of contract and within next 3 weeks will be asking for my PAC code so am keeping a very keen eye on this thread. Does anyone have any pro's / con's on the Nokia or Blackberry?
