just had 'retentions' ring me up, even though it was the wrong number (should have been my sisters number not mine). Asked us why we didnt take the offers and said because we wanted the phones free. He said that he could do 600 minutes, unlimited text and internet with a free tocco but couldnt give us the omnia free on the same deal (would be my phone). I asked him why and he said he only has a set amount of money to use and we have used it all.

So i told him that i have been going over by £30 some months so should have enough money to give me a deal as ive give them quite a lot of money but he said he couldnt do it. Told us to get my sister to ring back and see what he can do (its in her name so i cant get that many decent deals). so im abit annoyed. This was just asking for the same deals as you get on the internet for new customers.

I had a very similar convo with someone who called me today (contract up in 3 weeks time). I wonder if the deals are drying up?

Will retentions call me back do you think? I should I just accept what i have?

Absolutely not! I'd just ask for your PAC and your contract to be switched to PAYG for the time being. If retentions ring then happy days. If they don't then you will be able to get a much better deal from new connections than you currently have anyway.

How much was the line rental for that and was that for 12 or 18 months?

I thought that department was outbound only. Did the guy give his ext. or personal number?
  • it was £35 p/m for 18 months for both so not the greatest deal just what they were offering on the internet.

and no didnt give me a number to ring. we tried to ring but no one answered the phone so will have to try again tomorrow.

Im so annoyed though. a load of crap that they cant give us the phone for free because they dont have enough money. I thought it was all points based? Ive give them so much more money over the last few months that it would have paid for the omnia.

I just can't believe how you're being dealt with! Don't they want your business or something? That isn't any kind of retention "deal" at all - like you say, it's just a standard tariff. New connections can offer that tariff for £17.50 p/m for 15 of 18 months and outbound retentions (08080000133) have more discounting power than them. So if that guy is telling you that he hasn't got the power to offer ANY discount then he is just telling flat out lies!

If they don't change their tune I'd just PAC the number elsewhere and back again to get a half price new connection deal. That has other advantages too - 1 month free TV, 3 months free insurance and £50 recommend a friend.

As I said before that is the same as they told me, "not enough money in the kitty", "they do not discount any internet add ons". I have been with them about 15 years, currently paying £30 a month but went way over that last month.

that was the number they rang me on. Said he was in the promotional side so can offer me abit better deal. And if i get my pac code now i have to wait 30 days anyway as they need 30 days notice. so get even more money ouut of me to wait 30 months.

And if anything i should have got the better deal if they only have a set amount of money because i went over loads more than the other phone.

do they actually say they are from retentions? (is that what they call themselves?)

No, they don't normally tell customers that they are "outbound retentions" but if that is the number that they called you from then that is definitely the department with more discounting power than any other - whatever they call themselves. So if they are offering you terrible deals (which they bizarrely seem to be for a few of you) and say that's the best they can do then they have to be lying.

They are small, dedicated sales team with the sole job of doing, within reason, whatever it takes to keep customers that are determined to leave. So if all those agents doing new connections in direct sales have got the power to do half price line rentals (which they definitely have) then there's no way that retentions don't. Although there's no need to tell them that you know how this game works - that just lets them know that you'd rather stay. But there's no harm in saying that you have a friend/colleague who got half price line rental from new connections - it should stop them pretending that the most they can only offer you £5 off! If they maintain the pretence then I really would just switch to PAYG and go the new connection route or just take your business elsewhere.

I've seen some decent retention deals on other networks too and if I didn't get offered the same £12.50 deal that other people here have got I'd have just jumped ship to o2. Honestly some people here are getting spoken to by Vodafone as if they are the only network in town. I know £12.50 is cheap but if I was having to pay more than that for my line rental then I'd rather do it with the iPhone on my pocket.

But i did get this on an Omnia and on a 12 month contract. you can only get this free with an 18 month contract yeah? or do you think new connections will discount me?
  • yeah just vodafone are the only ones with the decent deals. Every other network you have to pay to get the Omnia whichever price plan you get it on but vodafone have it free.

the others seem quite expensive as they dont all do unlimited texts.

And i know that Vodafone have good network coverage so dont really want to leave to another network and get rubbish signals.

They have done the same with my gf aswel. gave her the basic internet deal and said it was good because its usually £40 to existing customers, she even told them about the offer on here (didnt say it was from here obviously said it was her mate) but they wouldnt budge.

I have no idea how people are getting them to come down in price when we have to go up in line rental to get a 'deal'. Like a few pages back someone was on about £30 pm and then got their deal half price and it was as though vodafone just rolled over and let them have it.

Ive been with Vodafone for about 4/5 years but they dont seem to realise that we have been with them that long. Never had a complaint until now.
