Vodafone Retention Deals

I'm on 18 anytime 75 STC + 100 texts. I don't use all the minutes, but I go slighly over on the texts. I pay about £25 per month.
I've had the same phone for a long time (I'd have to double check how long, it's in years anyway) and am definitely due for an upgrade.
They want to put me back on the same price plan, committed to another 18 months with a Nokia 6300. This is not acceptable. Where is the incentive to stay? I've told them over the phone I might as well switch to another provider who can offer me a better, new, deal. No luck though. They said "that is up to you to decide". Hmm.
1. Is it at all possible to get a new handset (however low spec) without committing to at least 12 months contract? If so, then what kind of deal could I reasonably expect?
2. If it's not possible and I do have to commit for 12 months, what is the best I can ask for?0 -
got a call last night from the 0808 number say that they believe i wanted to leave and what did i want.
Current deal due to expire in 1 month -225min + 100 txt - paying 12.50 (got 50% discount) and got a free Samsung G600
Said i just want 50% discount again and maybe a cheap phone, she looked at my last years record and said that they hadn't made hardly anything from me last year :T so this year they can't even give me discountd line rental or a phone. I said fine, i will get the £15 pay monthly sim only deal from Voda website and use the £90 quidco to by a new phone. she agreed that would be best.
Today rang and pick 'thinking of leaving' and ask for a PAC code, and the guy said i could have line rental for 12.49 on 12mth deal but no phone. I declined and PAC code has been requested.
They seem to be contradicting each other, will see what happens.0 -
I have just accepted, from retentions.

£25 a month for 18 months
They offered me the same package for £35 first and then £30 a day later, and two days later they asked me what would it take to stay so I asked for the package above and they agreed, maybe I should have asked for it for £20, but I think i have done ok.I'm on 18 anytime 75 STC + 100 texts. I got offered the Omnia for £30 a month 500 mins 500 txt 12 months. Told her I could do better and for her to call back tomorrow once she has re-thought a better deal.
Do better? She'd know you were lieing I'm afraid. The Omnia is a £500 handset.. you'd be getting it at a total of £360 over a 12 month period.. If you used all your minutes and texts and called Cust Services a couple of times Vodafone (and any company) would be losing alot of money on that deal.
If you're going to try and get a deal never lie blatently to the agent, they'll see through it and be reluctant to offer you anything.
Disclaimer: I realise that £500 isn't the cost that Vodafone would be purchasing the handset at, however I'm pretty sure it's over £300.0 -
I'll be nice to those of you wanting to know the structure and how to get a deal.
Vodafone have 3 sales departments, 4 departments total within Telesales And Retention (TSAR).
When you first call and ask for an upgrade you go through to:
Inbound Retention.
These people have the least amount of money to spend and if you want any handset or deal of value you'll more than likely have to pay or have a 24 month contract (or both).
If you reject there offer you go through to:
Customer Saves.
These have a little bit more to play with and unless you've been paying absoluetly nothing (<£25) per month they can usually offer you a decent deal.
Failing that, ask for your Porting Authorisation Code (PAC), you will then be placed onto an Automatic Dialer which causes a department to ring you called:
Outbound Retention.
This department has the most amount of money available to spend on customers and can more often than not offer you a good deal and a good handset. Again, the money to spend on your account is based on the amount of money you've spent, so if you've spent £40 total in the last 3 months, don't go asking for a £500 phone and a £25 price plan, you'll get shot down and told to leave.
Either way, have fun with the information.0 -
MessageToday I'm due a upgrade and phoned up and was told that as my contract for the last 9 months or so was low £15-£20 I would have to 'contribute' for the phone Samsung Tocco £140. I said that as I was a poor user in the pass but wanted to upgrade my tariff for email/internet to £35 tariff. She said I still had to contribute.
So I said I was better off going to another network where my past usage didn't count against me. So I said that as my contact ends on the 4th Dec I would need to call on 04th November to cancel and give the 30 days notice.
She then started i would have to pay Vodafone £80 and Orange/T-Mobile £35 as you have to pay upfront for your line rental. This can't be true?
I would finish my contract on the 4th Dec and pay the usage up to that date or shortly after. If I switched to another network on the 4th I would not pay line rental and calls til the the £4th Jan? (Give or take days for their billing dates)
Am I right?
In regards to PAC codes and changing if I give my notice on 4th Nov when would I get code? and when would I need to contact new network to get PAC transferred so it fall son day contract ends with Vodafone?
