  • Retentions. I problably could have got a better deal but at the time I asked them for a Nokia 6300. That was before I picked one up off ebay for £40. Now I'd either want an Omnia or if thats going to be too pricey something like a Tocco that I can sell on to cover the cost of the contract.

Quite right! You know they CAN do it. My sis saved a lot of time bartering by just saying "this is the deal I want - which I know you can offer cos my friend got it...". Worked a treat... :)
Hi got my call, they offered me the W980i for free, my current deal for £10 per month, friends and family will be £5.00 extra. I was happy with that, I think! phone is coming tomorrow and I have a cooling off period. Seems like a good deal. Internet would be extra per month but I have that in work and home so seriously have to think if I need it! At the moment my contact will be £180 per year - the phone is £300 alone.

It seemed a bit too good to be true, I have kept STC and passport etc, he is putting it all in writing.

    What do you think?

    Jayne.

Sounds great! I know it's not many minutes but if you don't need any more and you're getting a phone worth nearly twice you're total line rental then it's gotta be good. Maybe you could bluff them into giving you the internet though (or at least half price). I can't see them wanting to take the phone back over that. Even if you decide you don't really need it though I think STC is a more useful bonus to have anyway. Well done...
  • Hi All,

Is this a good deal, or could I do better?

My existing contract gives me 150mins +500 txts for £25p/month, (18month).
It just expired, so I called up Vodafone to get a better deal.

The guy I spoke too(originally transferred from the "thinking of leaving us" option and left on hold whilst he said he would "brief" his colleague about what I wanted (???)) was prepared to offer 600mins + unlimited txts for £25p/month with phone (which I didn't enquire about further as I was too busy trying to haggle lol). When I said i may consider keeping my current handset (Samsung D900 which I am happy with), and that I wanted it lower (my girlfriend was offered by Orange, an 18month contract with 600mins and unlimited texts, plus Motorola RAZR2V8 for £17.50p/month). 'All' he could do was give me 600mins + unlimited texts for £17.50 p/month on a 12month contract, with no phone, but apparently as 'low' as he could go (same deal SIM free is £20p/month..)

I said I would have a look at other deals offered by other networks at which point he said he would call back a few days later. He didn't.

I called VF this morning and informed the lady on the retentions detartment of the deal I had been negiotiating, and she somehow got confused with the price that had been agreed from the previous call. She replied to me thinking I'd said "£12.50", when i'd said "£17.50", so ofcourse I went along with it. To get to the point, I thought it was a good deal and didn't want to refuse.

    12month contract
    600mins
    unlimited texts
    £12.50 p/month

    no phone (keeping current)

I've got a 14day cooling off period, but, having now read this thread, want to know whether I could get a phone with it or should cancel and request a PAC to get things moving..

Whilst my exisiting Samsung D900 is satisfactory, a new handset (I quite like the Nokia 6210 Nav exclusive to VF ...) would have been preferable, but I thought the low cost outweighed the need for a new phone.

Sorry for the long message, but do you think, if I were to try again, I could get a new phone seeing as others have managed too..

    A reply would be great!

    Thanks,

    Matt

    Hi Matt

    Welcome to the forum.

If you phoned Vodafone rather than them calling you then it wasn't retentions you spoke to. They are just outbound and will only call once you've requested your PAC and rejected any offer from the "thinking of leaving us" option. Since outbound retentions are the department with the most discounting power they will be able to beat any deal you've previously accepted.

If you are happy with the deal they've been offered and don't want the hassle of playing the PAC requesting game then you might won't to leave it at that. If not I'd suggest you could do better. If you look at the links in post #589 you'll see someone else this month got the same tariff as you except with a Samsung Soul (£300 in the VF catalogue). No reason why you shouldn't get the same. By the way, I used the 6210 for a day - it felt very cheap and plasticky! Hanging on for the E66 myself...

I've just spoken to upgrades and they've offered me 600 minutes, unlimited texts plus a free 6210 for 25 pound a month
Ideally I'd like that deal but if they were offering that, what can I expect from retentions?
Can I get the price down or at least 1/2 price?

Since the 6210 is a cheaper phone than the Soul you should at least get this deal:

When you have got your pac code.
1 how long does it stay active to use?
2 If you don't use it will you stay on the same number with Vodaphone?
3 Have you got to cancel your contract at the same time as you ask for your pac code?

    1. a month (30 days maybe)
    2. If you don't use it your number, and contract, will remain the same
    3. Just asking for your PAC code doesn't automatically cancel your contract, so I guess you do need to cancel it as well at some point, but you don't have to cancel at the same time as asking for PAC.
